we get a championship that I think they would have expected. UCLA has easily been the top team in the league all season with Iowa obviously the second best team.

This is one of those David versus Goliath type games. In order for Iowa to win, they would have to play extremely clean and at the same time somehow get UCLA to force uncharacteristically bad shots.

I’m thinking 76-62 UCLA.

Keys to the game, imo:

* Ava needs to stay out of foul trouble.

* Value the ball. We had 19 turnovers the last time we played UCLA. Need that number to be around 12.

* Defense needs to show up. Last time we played, UCLA shot 50% from three, 60% from inside the arc, and 58% overall. Iowa shot just 24% from three, 56% from inside the arc and 43% overall.

-Limit the TOs (bad entry passes)
-Ava no foul trouble and knocks down the 15 footer pulling 6'7" away from the hoop
-Move the ball...reverse quicker
-tough perimeter defense
-Play loose......there is ZERO to lose in this game....only something to gain. We will be a 2 seed regardless so have fun and let it rip.

Very proud of these gals and coaches. That Q4 yesterday was something else.

They are gonna pressure us...come to the ball when the traps happen. Hopefully Ava can stay out of foul trouble....use some pump fakes on Betts

I love the David vs. Goliath analogies, because David won.

UCLA was 1-9 from three in the first half yesterday vs. Ohio State. I don't know what the final stats were, but clearly UCLA is capable of missing.

All good points, but you may have overlooked one more key: the three whistles. Will Betts & Co. be allowed to do whatever they want while Iowa will be whistled for trying to stop them? As we all know, basketball refs have WAY too much control over how basketball games are played and who wins those games. Will this be a fair contest or not? If it is, Iowa has a chance. If not, then there's no point in showing up. That's the sad truth about basketball these days. And I absolutely expect Iowa to get hosed from the opening tip.

The thing is, Ava can't control how the refs will call the game. If she tries to defend Betts and others, she's likely to be whistled for staring at them while they'll be allowed to hook their defender and travel their way to the rim. Having your fate, both as an individual player and as a team, in the hands of inconsistent, incompetent officials leaves me with a sad and sick feeling.

But maybe a miracle will occur, and Iowa will be allowed to play their game and UCLA will be forced to play by the rules. Nah . . .

Anyway, it's exasperating to see Iowa continue, even at the end of the season, to force passes into the post. If it's not there, move it around the perimeter. Set some screens for your best outside shooter, Chit-Chat, and let her fire away. Eventually the defense will have to extend, and THEN there should be room for those entry passes. It's gotten to the point it's like Iowa football stupidly running into a nine-man box instead of passing. Don't feed the damn post unless it's open. Nobody has ever scored when they've turned it over. So shooting more threes instead of throwing bad passes means you'll have more chances to score. Sometimes shots go in. Turnovers never do. Damn I hope Jan can finally drill that into everyone's heads today. Don't beat yourself, and you've got a good chance to shock the world, Hawkeyes.

good points. I would add that, when beating the full court/ extended pressure, push the ball all the way to the basket. Don’t let their defense to set. If the lane is well protected, kick the ball out for an open 3PT attempt. Knock down those 3s!

A shot, any shot, is better than a TO. I semi jokingly say to the TV when certain players have the ball that they need to shoot it before they turn it over.
