Assuming this story is true...We obviously need high level talent, but I'm not sure we need a guy who doesn't want to be here. Sounds like the perfect scenario that would result in a guy taking money and deciding not to play. Of course that would never happen to us.

Either none of the top recruits want to play for Kentucky because of the setup of our NIL program or because of our coach.

Plus y'all are too obsessed with freshmen just because this year the freshmen class is great. I'll laugh when these freshmen flop out of the NCAA tournament. Self will do anything for players even if their criminal or sit out half the season.

Not even 4 star players appear to be interested in Kentucky right now. We have no recruits. If we had a couple top 50 recruits I’d have some good idea where we are but we’re at a big 0. Even BCG got some pretty good 4 star guys to come here, a couple which were important to Cal’s run to the Final Four and title.
Agreed. U like Kansas better then bugger off. Find guys who want this opportunity. Not just the whole UK jersey stuff but understand we pay well, offer the extras, and have a big NBA contingent.
Pope needs to keep his mouth shut about money. The 22 mil comment didn't age well, and has worked against us.
Who are these hypothetical guys who want to play here for any amount of money besides guys who knows that we’ll overpay for middling players.
I can’t understand why fans would think this “news” is a bad reflection on Mark Pope. I will anticipate replies that Stokes doesn’t want to play for our coach and call BS right now. We shouldn’t rely on the opinion of some entitled teenager. If this is true, I’d cut Stokes from my recruitment list and look elsewhere.
I could get on board with this if ANY top talent wanted to play for Pope, but we haven't seen that yet.

If Kentucky keeps sucking, there’ll be many more folks who decide to no longer watch. No one wants to watch a once great program fight for a 10th place finish in the freaking SEC of all places. This isn’t football. If the fans go then Kentucky is done. Adults won’t watch, kids won’t watch or grow up to become UK fans. Hell many of them might end up Louisville or Indiana fans for Christ’s sake.
Kentucky will never recover if it loses their fanbase.
His offer should be pulled. No way in hades I’d pay somebody a lot of money that didn’t want to be here. That’s just asking for another **** show. Maybe he plays, maybe he doesn’t. Maybe he gives full effort, maybe he doesn’t. If this is truly the case (his preference not to be here) then pull out and move on. The scrutiny would be overwhelming if he ends up here with this knowledge out there. Not good for anyone. A bad look for pope in all fronts which is not surprising at this stage.
He’s a really talented player. But he’s obviously planning on following the Peterson plan of playing when he feels like it. Which I think a certain percentage of these kids are going to do. You can’t win with those kids. At some point you say **** him. We’ll win without you. If as a coach you have any balls. This is Kentucky. We have to start really looking into every minute detail on every one of these kids we’re going to be paying millions of dollars to. It’s already burned our *** enough.

More reasons Pope has to go
When money is involved you put your strongest offer on the table with a deadline. When that deadline is not met, the offer is pulled and if there is a revisit the offer drops. Popes not enough of a hard *** to negotiate.
This. Even if we double or triple KU’s offer, he’ll just sit or take himself out of every big game or important spot.
I think Pope's desire to play everybody on his bench, no matter how much of a drop off they are from the starters, is a negative towards recruiting the big star players but it's not the reason NONE of the top 50 recruits are willing to go to Kentucky. Kentucky is the only school in the country to have the type of deal we have with JMI; the other schools affiliated with JMI mainly just have multimedia deals.
Our problem is Mitch and his JMI deal. Even if Pope were fired this situation would now cause any other coach we pursued and didn't vastly overpay to turn us down.

When he gets his numbers he’ll pull himself. They think they’re allowed to load manage themselves. They don’t care at all about winning college games. Rules need to be changed back allowing these guys to turn pro straight out of high school.
