What if it actually is complicated though? Seems like most of us want it to be as simple as he’s injured and can’t play or it’s a Shaedon Sharpe. I’ll continue to think it’s probably somewhere in between — and it may be in Pope and JQs best interest to not play him again. Say he’s healthy enough to play, but his explosiveness still hasn’t returned….does that help UK to play him? No. Does it help Quaintance? No.

He handles it about the same way Calipari did.
It is the way most coaches would probably handle the situation. You do not want to jeopardize future recruiting and portal opportunities. It is a slippery slope to deal with, for sure.
Exactly right. He knows. Just can’t speak on it freely because of what you said. And additionally makes himself look like a fool. Learn from this Mark. Start really looking into who you’re recruiting. Become a serious basketball coach.

I think JQ has made a decision to play another year of cbb and get paid big while raising his draft stock after his knee has healed

Whew. Glad the OP started this thread as we don’t have anywhere else to discuss JQ.

I have no idea what is going on with JQ. I know ACL injuries are hard to recover from, and typically even harder for big guys. I also know there isn’t a single high-level coach in the country that would throw someone under the bus and accuse them of quitting as it would crush recruiting.

There’s only so much Pope can/should say. I know it makes folks angry, but there really isn’t much else he can do publicly.
I agree. Why not just be honest a say that Quaintance is a coward and a quitter? Thats what he is.
1) We don’t know if he’s a coward and a quitter. He could legit be having issues with his knee.
2) That would be the single dumbest thing Pope could say about the situation. It may make people you like you feel better, but it would crush any recruiting prowess Pope has left.

I think the issue is, and for some reason this is being forgotten, that the same time his dad went off about the way he’s being handled, is around the same time he was shut down. Also again, correlation doesn’t equal causation, but it is a
necessary ingredient.

Sometimes things aren’t just neutral. Sometimes they are sometimes they aren’t. Objectively, I think the important thing here is he was never really part of the roster anyway. Mark might have signed him more for optics and recruiting momentum and a prayer for march. But either way, he’s never been part of the team and so we move on.

is complicated. Whew! I'm glad we got that cleared up. Everybody happy now?
I've about had it with that guy...

It only gets more complicated. No way JQ gets a decent draft position in this upcoming NBA draft with Peat, Boozer etc. and thats just among the Centers. So injured and unable to play JQ has to play NCAA basketball somewhere next year.

I don't even consider him one of our injured players at this point. He clearly isn't part of the team now. Both sides are just pretending he is to prevent backlash. I would be more likely to believe the swollen knee excuse if his dad didn't publicly criticize shortly before he stopped playing. And every question about him seems to get a vague answer.

Thinking he’s coming back next year at no additional nil as his family and agent realize UK stepped up to provide JQ every thing he needed. However, UK didn’t get any payback. Going to do the ethical and right thing and will return become a UK favorite.

I'm betting if it were all to do over, daddy would not have said anything. And they would have slipped out without as much chaos.

He's still projected T15. He will absolutely go.

Shoot, J Vanderbilt didn't have that high of a shoot, injured, and he still went.

If an NBA team says, "Hey man, we want you" and it's a high pick- I don't care who you are you'd be an IDIOT to say no.

He's provided Pope with some high quality chess matches, obtained his license, and rehabbed at an elite level. What'd you expect for 3 mil? For him to play basketball.

Pope could've easily gotten 2 solid players for the money spent.

Wouldn't want to be that GM, given the overwhelming amount of healthy talent coming out this year. This years class is a historic class. I dont think they will gamble on a guy

JQ averaging 9.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, and 1.5 assists in 29.7 minutes per game. Those numbers are not in any way outstanding.

Moreno #'s- 8.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 58.8% from the field.

See this is what drives me nuts.

Complicated? EIther he's injuried and cannot play or he isn't and should be.

There's nothing complicated about this lol
That’s exactly what I was thinking. To me saying it’s complicated says it all. It’s not just about the injury. He’s either too injured to play, or he’s not too injured to play. The only way it’s complicated is if it’s not all about the injury.

I mean there's 30 teams in the NBA. He will land somewhere.
