Tried to watch the new George Clooney movie on Netflix. A snoozer, as I fell asleep in the first 30 minutes. Will try more but man it was like oceans 12, guys just going through the motions to get paid.

Anyone watch Ghosts? There have been references to Altoona in past episodes but the most recent episode had a bunch to Altoona and the Penn State Campus. :ROFLMAO:

The Odyssey? I really dunno. I read the Emily Wilson translation last year so I know my Homer but as a movie I dunno.

If Matt Damon could play Odysseus as he did LaBeouf in True Grit, that might work. I will make a point of watching it in a theater. The Nolans and the Andersons, you go to a theater to see their films.

Yes. Don’t bet against Nolan/Matt Damon.
Odysseus, if he’s not a POS he comes damn close. You can’t play that role straight. Leo played his role perfectly in OBAA, as did Sean Penn, with just enough of a hint of craziness. Damon is gonna have to do the same. Play it like Brad Pitt played Achilles in Troy, that’s a recipe for failure.

The Odyssey is very violent at times (there’s a slaughter of Penelope’s maidservants, Wilson’s translation makes explicit that they are slaves). One thing PTA made clear in OBAA is that he’s the anti-Tarantino. There are a handful of violent deaths in OBAA but always out-of-frame. Whether or not PTA was thinking of QT while making this artistic choice I dunno. But it worked fine. I do not like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood…, the cartoonishly violent ending ruined what could have been a great picture.

You would not want QT directing The Odyssey but Nolan (or PTA, for that matter) could make it work. Not going to be easy.

Funny thing is PTA and QT are really close friends; they consult each other all the time about their work. I just started OBAA last night (maybe a half hour in) and it’s such a bizarre premise for a film. PTA can get dark too when he wants (Boogie Noghts especially) but he’s definitely working with a different framework than QT - certainly more close to Nolan in one respect but more indulgent I think. He’s an actor’s director like QT, whereas Nolan serves the entirety of the film.

I remember some of The Odyssey from school but will mostly be going into this blind. I also don’t mind the creative license taken with costumes and such - I never thought I’d say Benny Safdie looks like a badass but as Agamemnon he certainly does…

You really need to see Bugonia! Amazing performances, including a young first time actor who is on the spectrum. Lanthimos films are out there for sure. And Penn as Lockjaw in OBAA was over the top. Much like Phoenix in Eddington.

There are some works of literature that I would rather interpret through my mind’s eye rather than have someone draw me their picture. This is one of those works.

https://www.remindmagazine.com/article/38463/tcm-rob-reiner-movie-marathon/

TCM Remembers Rob Reiner will air on January 28, starting at 8pm.

8:00pm: The Princess Bride (1987) (TCM network premiere)

One of Reiner’s most beloved achievements, the adaptation of William Goldman’s celebrated novel became an enduring classic thanks to its collection of clever and kooky characters, the love story, and the its trademark off-beat humor.

10:00pm: When Harry Met Sally (1989)

Reiner’s classic romantic comedy follows cynical Harry (Billy Crystal) and extremely particular Sally (Meg Ryan) as they develop a deep platonic friendship while attempting to find love in New York.

12:00am: Stand by Me (1986)

Reiner’s take on Stephen King‘s novella The Body, the story of four boys on the hunt for the body of a missing boy has, over the years, become a classic coming-of-age tale that celebrates friendship, childhood, and the fleeting innocence of youth.

1:45am: This is Spinal Tap (1984)

Reiner’s directorial debut is a hilarious mockumentary that follows a British rock band long past its heyday as its members desperately attempt to cling to relevance.

OK… I am a total geek and I’m wearing it on my sleeve here, but I am really looking forward to the Masters of the Universe movie 😎🤣

There’s only a brief glimpse of her in the trailer, but Alison Brie plays Evil-Lyn :) Here she is seeing herself as an action figure for the first time

Watched probably the first 30-40 mins and was bored to death, going to assume it gets better?

I really liked the show and I liked Bobo Fett and Ahsoka as well. The other variations not so much.

Once Mando went exploring Mandalor I lost interest. Maybe I'll pick it up again; the season that ended with Luke was amazing.

I haven't tried Ahsoka yet. But, my son has been quietly getting into Star Wars and is collecting the micro-vehicles and he's into the shows and stuff now too. May see if he wants to watch. I heard Andor was amazing, so definitely gonna get to that. I didn't like Boba Fett. He's much better the less you know IMO.

Caught “Crime 101” at the theater today. A great ride, great acting, great camera work, way too many coincidences, very rarely do you see a movie with so many loose ends. You can see the grand finale coming from a mile away. Don’t overthink it, it’s not directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. It’s going to make $$$$$.

Heard this was really good; might be an unfortunate case of having an awful title though. It’s rare, but can sink an otherwise great film (see: Edge of Tomorrow which should have been named ‘Live. Die. Repeat’).

Looking forward to this though.

Crime 101 is one of those movies where you wake up the morning after asking yourself “How the hell can you explain this away?” Spoiler: you can’t.

But it’s fun. The fact that it’s 88% Tomatometer says a lot.
