Wow indeed. I thought the Mets offer of 4/$200 was crazy. I wonder if there are deferrals.

We are so spoiled with our booth.

Two things can be true.
1. Mets offseason is horrific.
2. Payingn 60 million a year for this caliber of player is riddiculous, and I wouldn’t expect the Mets to pay it.
In a way, it's fitting that Stearns is failing at every turn. I hope the failures wipe that smile off his face. It appears Stearns is not the smartest man in the room.

Bichette has not played a single game in the outfield in his entire professional career. Not even rookie ball.
Stearns is a genius knowing the Dodgers are going to win the next 2 or 3 world series so no long term contracts on the books.
I was reading an AP press release that said Tucker has deferments, but they haven't been made public yet. The article said there is no way the Dodgers can't fit Tucker's AAV of $60 million without deferments.
Here are the deferments the Dodgers have issued to players on the roster:
Tanner Scoot- $21 million
Teoscar Hernandez- $23.5 million
Shohei Ohtani- $680 million
Mookie Betts $115 million
Blake Snell- $66 million
Freddie Freeman- $57 million
Will Smith- $50 million
Tommy Edman- $25 million
It is criminal that the league allows this at this level. You can't compete.
Btw, the Dodgers will have deferred payments of $100+ million starting in 2038 before they get to paying players on the roster.

The Dodgers will be the cause of a lockout and a salary cap…..at least all the 16 year old international stars will be 24 when the salary cap era and re alignment start .

The Mets could win 5 World Series in a row, but I will not give Stearns any credit. I'll thank Pete, Diaz, the beer guy in the stands, Mr. Mets, and everyone else before I consider him.

Tucker at those numbers are criminal. I do feel that Met fans are only upset because Stearns put us in a position where Tucker was our only hope.

I would not have been happy to tie up 40+ million in Tucker. Yes, Stearns put us in a place we we really did need him but we never should have been in this position. I understand that Stearns has a mission he made clear- run prevention...And he did go out and get one aging elite fielder. So, we did actually upgrade 2B at roughly double the price of who he replaced.
But let's see how we are doing elsewhere - C - no change and not a game changer for run prevention. 1B - Sure, Pete lost some range but was elite scooping throws. But at least we have this covered but one guy who really sucks in his 17 games at 1B and another who has a total of 1 inning at the position. 2B- clear upgrade, 3B - No change, SS- No change but still elite, RF- no change and clearly not a run preventor, CF - we either have an elite fielder who can't hit and is not a full time player or a rookie, LF - well, maybe just not having anyone there at all is better than Nimmo...
So- I do see Stearns vision being clearly successful in the field. So, I am ok losing so much offense. The good thing is that we clearing got better in the bullpen with run prevention to bring in a closer with a +4 era to replace a horrible closer with a sub 2 era.
And Stearns pitching lab has been so successful- the starters who couldt last 4 innings last year, will clearly be so much better. There was no need to make an upgrade there.
But heck- the lambs love the man for what he did at Milwaukee(who never won the WS with Stearns) and how Stearns has given us a world class minor league system. OK- except that most of the players that are considered elite, were here before Stearns.
Good thing we can count on him making all the right moves at the trade deadline.
I am excited, And the Wilpon's only wish they had hired him sooner. Oh wait, I forgot, the Wilpons no longer own us- I heard a rumor that one of the richest me in the world bought the team and will spend money to make us a winner.

GM David Stern thought Pete Alonso wasn’t worth 5/ 155 even though he proved it year after year in becoming the Mets Home Run Leader and the Mr Met that everyone said David Wright but offered Kyle Tucker 4/220, who only hit 30 HRs twice, only higher than 90 RBIs 3 times, only hit higher than 284 3 times in his 5 years as a starter.

As several other people mentioned, the issue I have with Stearns isn't this Tucker deal... it was the absolute desperate spot they were in to land Tucker because of his other idiotic moves. Letting Diaz walk over $3M, not being aggressive there. Letting Pete walk WITHOUT EVEN MAKING AN OFFER! Trading a solid OF in Nimmo, for another IF in Siemian, where we have plenty of IFs. Haven't signed a SP, which was our downfall last year.
From my outside perspective, Stearns is getting played like a drum, is over his head, and is a friggen moron. And Cohen's checkbook isn't even helping. I don't give a crap about not landing Tucker, but we should never have been in this position where we were so desperate for him. This was an NLCS team 2 seasons ago, and Stearns got his hands on it, and i'm struggling to see how we win 75 games.

Bo has never played a professional game in the outfield, at any level. First time for everything I guess.
He's going to play 3B I would imagine. Baty to LF or they trade him for a CF. Baty and a prospect or two for Jarren Duran?
Wonder if Bichette was already in the bag and we were waiting for Tucker’s decision. Regardless, love this!! I think this now frees up Baty for a trade to get a left fielder. Even if he opts out after this year, it buys AJ Ewing and Jett Willams another year of development - either one of them could play the position, right?
