For WR it is interesting. I do think these young guys in the system will take a nice step if they stay. I would imagine a couple leave because that’s been a trend for the hawks but with Lester who knows. Here are returning WRs:

I think we have plenty of big bodied guys but the questions becomes which ones leave? I think if everything stays current I like our big guys with RVZ, Howard, and Buie.

I would like to have some 6 ft twitchy dudes that can get clean releases off the line and who have a great change of direction. KJ Parker is supposed to be that type of dude but we need a couple of more imo.

Who really knows what Iowa has with our underclassmen?

O- line seems to have a lot of young depth. Barnett continues to build depth. Lauck has done an awesome job at LT. Dotzler will slip in at right tackle. Jones at LG, Pieper at RG and Myslinski at center.

D-line has more quedtion marks. Adding a tackle might make sense. DE seems to have a lot of depth.

Moulton continues to improve. RB room is deep with Patterson and McNiel

TE room has a lot of young talent, would not look for anyone there.

WR room is improving. VanderZee is a star in the making. Howard continues to improve. I look for Parker to take a big jump. Maybe one add here.

LBer room has a lot of young talent, no need for a portal add here.

Secondary has talent, we need size at cornerback. Lutmer is a star in the making.

QB is a huge question mark. Is Hecklinski the answer? Hawks might dip into the portal again, only if they can get someone who would improve the passing game.

Kicker will be a big hole to fill. Don't know who Hawks have waiting in the wings. I know they got a walk on from Bettendorf.

Will be interesting how they tackle the portal.

Outside of RVZ I haven’t seen a reason to be optimistic about WR room.

My portal wish list

1) Two starter quality DTs
2) #1 quality WR
3) secondary depth

I would not be surprised to see us dip into the portal for QB or two, but more likely for developmental or depth pieces.

Assuming Heck is QB1, you would think there’s a decent chance that Hank Brown moves on. And with Pat Fitzgerald apparently headed to MSU, I would expect Ryan Fitzgerald to head that way as well.

That would leave us Jeremy Hecklinski, Jimmy Sullivan, and true freshman Tradon Bessinger in our QB room. I think those are 3 quality guys, but there’s not much depth. And Lester seems to like a fairly large QB room.

Edit: I neglected to mention Stratton in this post, but it looks like he has announced his plans to leave. FWIW, he had already been removed the roster when I checked it to write this post.

With Michigan St firing their coach I'm wondering if Nick Marsh hits the portal.

Really don't know what the Hawks have $$ wise to spend but my take is they use NIL on lineman and linebackers and maybe a reciever. I think Helisnskie (sp) is qb for next year.

Farewell, Shaggy. Thanks for helping us beat the bugeaters.

1 down and probably another heading from the QB room. I hope we recruit yoounger dudes in the portal to develop at QB and WR. We won’t be able to get a top tier dude at that position until we prove something

Yeah, I don’t think they should spend big bucks on any QBs. No more than what they paid for Brown and Hecklinski. Just someone who can be a quality backup. But we will need to add depth if we lose any QBs to the portal.

I agree, develop from within and get portal dudes that are younger that can hit with a change of scenery.

If we lose Fitz and let's say Brown, that would put us at Hecklinski, Sullivan, Bessinger and then probably a walkon. We may need just one more.

Mark stoops just fired from Kentucky. Keep an eye on some portal possibilities from there

Would like to go after MSU 's frosh QB,milisivec,
who came from Naperville like markg.
Tough kid.
Aidan Chiles, honestly with an OLine that kid might be a solid addition to compete with Hecklinski. I don't think he gets paid a ton from NIL.

That kid is going to get absolutely paid, there is almost zero chance he comes to Iowa.
Meh, I’d rather just roll with the better of Brown or Hecklinski. Need to have a qb not starting from scratch again in the system and invest in higher end WRs. If you want an MSU transfer, open the books for Nick Marsh.

I go against the grain on this one. I think the WR room has the potential right now to be that 2019 room. KJ Parker has his drop issues, but he has the ability to get open. They have the size with RVZ, Howard, Smith, and newcomer Stinson. They need to develop a pass offense that continues while the QB is scrambling. I am not a fan of Brown at all, if he is QB at Iowa next year we are in trouble.

RVZ is the only one we know anything about. Howard is still a question mark imo. That WR room was as much a blight as the qb this year in the passing game. You can get more bang for your buck with a proven WR.

I keep going back to the comments on Hecklinski regarding how quickly he processes and makes the right decision and how he passed Brown. I think he’s the guy. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if he was running the offense more efficiently than MG by the end of this year but they already were committed to MG and that style for the year.

I've said it all year... from spring ball.

I would love for him to pair with Jaz.
I gotta think a RB leaves yet I thought that this year as well. Maybe all of them are good with the PT that is there and like their NIL package, coaching and Iowa City. Doll is there too but he probably gets a shot at special teams and we did have quite a few RB's nicked up this year so all of them played. Did McNeil play in more than 4 games? He reminds me of Wadley, like...a lot...and in running ability that's saying something.

Washington can't find a home be in the backfield or wideout..he's a tweener.

I'll disagree on this take, indecisive decision making by the QB is the blight of the QB room, I don't know if that is about not turning the ball over, but there are open WRs. Now if you want to complain about drops, that's fine. I will also say they lack the ability to get open in the scramble moments.
