When did you know Rhule wasn't the answer?

It seems as if everyone playing for Iowa yesterday especially the ones making big plays were the type of kid I described. Iowa along with Wisconsin brings in kids from the region that are proud and tough and play with something to prove. Not many like that come through Nebraska’s program anymore.
You are correct the color of skin doesn’t determine how good they are, but the culture they grew up in that shapes their toughness and grit and effort does make the difference in how they show up to play. Like many other issues Nebraska has for years tried to be like almost everyone else. Iowa knows who they are and what they are successful with even if it’s different than the majority of programs.
You are also correct on the NFL aspirations they better get used to all climates because if it’s Buffalo or New England that calls that will be their life in cold weather.
One thing I’ve noticed from watching Iowa high school football…over the last 10 years, or so, they are producing more & more good athletes/football players and Iowa is getting the majority of those top players. Most of such players are o-lineman, tight ends, line backers, and defensive backs.

For having such a high ratio of Caucasian players
Don’t know that Iowa’s # of Caucasian players on the starting units are that much higher than other teams? On offense…running backs are all black and wide receiver corps is mainly black. Many teams QB’s, o-lineman, and tight ends are white, as are Iowa’s this year. On defense, 3 of the 4 main defensive backs are black, linebackers are a mix of white and black. While the starting d-line is white…several African Americans rotate in. I don’t care what color a player is as long as they hustle, have a high motor, hit hard, and play smart.

When he didnt go to a bowl game his first year.

All good coaches show immediate improvement. No matter the sport.
Looking back at Shat Stool's career, his MO becomes quite easy to understand.

Year 1: The narrative is "we are tearing it down to the studs" in order to juke any expectations of demonstrated improvement. The resultant ****** first season is excused in the name of "building a program the right way."

Year 2: Even if the season is mediocre, it will look like improvement compared to the dogshit 1st season. Therefore, the false narrative of "progress" can be peddled with some degree of believabilty.

Year 3: Pray like hell to catch lightning in a bottle with one foot out the door.

The coaches we were rumored to be talking with along with Rhule.....5-7 Kansas coach ...5-7 Baylor's coach ...and 6-6 Kansas State coach ....no matter what, we would have ended up 7-5 or worse no matter who we hired....we were drawing from a bag of mid level coaches
I think it is tough to get a good coach. I am betting Florida State is not so much in love with Mike Norvell as they do not want to pay out $58 million dollars to him to not coach combined with the fact there are not a lot of great alternatives to replace him. If they let Norvell go, they are just as likely to get another mediocre coach.

If by some miracle Penn State or some other school hired Matt Rhule tomorrow, who would Nebraska hire to replace him?

So who would the team hire that’s worth the buyout and allow someone to come in and spend when this is already the youngest team in the Big 10. The inbred simpletons are out strong as usual

There is nobody out there worth the buyout.

Thus the outrage for it (completely unnecessarily) existing in its obscene amount.

PSU was just as likely to hire a random person off this message board as they were to hire Rhule.

It's year 3. Any and all roster issues are solely on Shat Stool. Especially in this day and age. Flipping a roster has never been easier and is actually expected in this case. Year 3.

Oh, and our best player was a Frost recruit.

A year from now, we get to see what nobody has witnessed - how Matt Rhule performs past year four. He’s only coached at Temple in a fourth year, nowhere else. He has never built and sustained a program, just improved and got out of dodge. Exciting times lie ahead…

...dude, that's... awesome

Pissing away two straight games with Iowa on late turnovers stands out for me. Maybe NU loses both in OT anyway, but handing them those games in regulation is something awful teams do.

Of course NU avoided that scenario this year by just enduring a complete a$$ whipping.

I skipped it because its irrelevant.

I just get a huge LOL from people that want to cast Stool as somehow an innocent bystander when it comes to HIS roster.

He's not a coordinator.
He doesn't have a specialty as a position coach.
He's not a big time X's and O's guy.
He's not an 18 hour a day grinder.
He's an abject failure as a strategist.
His personnel decisions are fundamentally flawed (Satt, Foley, DC).

If he's not at least in charge of the roster (which is miserable), what the hell is he being paid 86 million to do all day? Make podcasts?

We went from a decade of losing records to finally posting back to back winning seasons. Chill out and stop trying to restart the program every 3 to 4 years!

Touch grass, homey, and take a breath.

You made a stupid statement. I correctly called you on it. And now you're having big feelings and acting like a slighted Swifty. But hey you do you.

Peace.

Matt Rhule in his welcome press conference said he was going to build a team that could win in the trenches and in the elements (weather). He would build a tough team. I fully believed him. After watching Frost’s flashy offense get bullied in the Big Ten, I was thrilled to hear it.

Watching us get bullied and pushed around by Minnesota, Penn State, and Iowa this year was the end for me. He has made zero progress in making us a tougher team. We are charmin soft with no identity whatsoever.

Someone in another thread said something about knowing when he hired the teenager as our WR coach that he wasn't cut out for this job.

For me, it was when he was dancing with the team during the opening kickoff in his skinny jeans and extra medium adidas aeroready shirt. Can you imagine TO or Saban doing that?

So, what was your moment? Not when you suspected it, but the breaking point of actually knowing it.

I would argue that 6-6 KSU coach has at least won the big XII. The baylor coach would have been a terrible hire. Lance i'm mixed on. He made KU better but they are still struggling getting bowl eligible this many years in. Not sure though how much investment that the administration is willing to make on their football team in the NIL era though.

Completely obvious. You’re too dumb to try and name one because you don’t have one. Name a logical list of 5 ready to go studs who would do better.
Look dumb@$$ maybe you are unaware of this fact but we have what’s called an ATHLETIC DIRECTOR. He gets paid A LOT of $ to make those kind of decisions. And even though he made a ridiculously stupid decision in extending this failure of a coach’s contract, it would not be hard to find a better coach lol. Go get an up and coming coordinator of a top 20 team. Specifically someone who will build strong O and D lines. They do this thing called “interviews” where the AD will “interview” several guys and decide who has the best plan. You honestly think it would be hard to replace Matt Rhule, a guy who has failed at nearly every aspect of being a HC? Look at his resume, it screams average to below average.
