Not saying I believe this..so who would even be this CAN'T MISS coach that you push KF out for?? I can't think of an obvious name
Clearly, either Nick Saban or Urban Meyer is being coaxed out of retirement. 🙄

I just hope when Kirk finally concedes Father Time has indeed bested him that it will be before we see a repeat of 1998.

If this is true, to me the only person who would make sense would be Mark Stoops. No other name would really make sense to me, because I'm not sure who else would actively seek the Iowa job if it wasn't actually open and they weren't being recruited for it.

EDIT: I think Mark Stoops does want out of Kentucky. I think Bob Stoops is enjoying retirement.

I think there probably is a faction of Iowa boosters with Ferentz fatigue, and I could see them wanting to bring in a former Hawkeye player from the Hayden era to take over.

But I don't think Goetz will just given in to these folks if they demand Kirk's ouster.
If Mark Stoops is this “high profile name,” then that is the epitome of a lateral movement.

His contract runs through 2029, not sure why the extension would be necessary. I would assume teams are already using his age as a negative recruiting tactic.
Yep, where QBs go to die. Show a recruit these stats on what KF did to MG.

2023 SDST 3,058
2024 SDST 2,721
2025 Iowa 1,363

I thought this was a "dumb" thread at the beginning. Have always been a KF supporter for many years and reasons. But the remarks after the MSU game "...older....Dad.....players etc" seemed diffrent to me. Personally I hope he continues but I am starting to wonder this might be it. Hope I am wrong.

It'd be pretty ignorant on Iowa's part if it's Mark Stoops. You don't pull a move like this unless it's an absolute home run which Mark Stoops is not.

I am not buying any of these “rumors,” but if Bob Stoops were to be the bridge from Kirk to the next chapter of Iowa football I would take it. Of course, there is absolutely no reason to believe Stoops would have any interest in doing so, but if we are entertaining fantastical hypotheticals, Bob Stoops on an interim basis would not be a bad way to go.

I don’t know what the hell “high profile name” means in the OP, but I am 100% sure it is not Lane Kiffin or any other name of that caliber. Lol. Although I am not quite as 100% sure on this one, I am pretty convinced that if Kirk wants to coach at Iowa in 2026 that he will.

Fran never had close to the clout that Kirk has gotten in 26 years. And while it would be nice to move out of the offensive schemes reminiscent of the days of Woody and Bo, I am afraid we are stuck watching inaccurate million-dollar quarterbacks never throw for 200 yards in one game passing to wide receivers who almost never catch TDs and who would be benchwarmers at places like Central Michigan.

That’s (Iowa) football.

Bob Stoops thinks too highly of KF to ever be the one to replace him...

There is only one answer and it is Bob Stoops. That is the only coach I can think of that fits this mold that the alumni would still have contact with. But it is so unrealistic on so many. First. The buyout for crying out loud. $27million?? Give me a break. 2nd. Donors love Kirk. 3rd. KF has done a lot of good for Iowa. There is just no way they are showing him the door like that. And last but probably most important. If anyone thinks for one second that Bob Stoops would have anything to do with pushing Ferentz out the door then you have lost your ******** mind. He has far, FAR too much respect for Kirk to be any part of it.

Kirk Ferentz will be at Iowa until he doesn't want to be here anymore. Barring a complete meltdown and/or some kind of scandal.

Boosters can be absolutely delusional. I spoke with boosters who were enamored with Brian and were convinced he was the program’s best option to take over after Kirk. All I could do was smile and nod, but they were absolutely serious.

I think some boosters love Hawkeye nostalgia and will do anything to bring in Mark Stoops to lead the program, and to them he is a "home run".
As an aside, I have to admit Mark + occasional golf outings with Bob as special guest might bring in a lot of NIL money. But there are plenty of reasons not to hire Mark Stoops.

Whomever the next head coach is, I think it needs to be someone fully aligned woth Beth Goez and her longterm vision for Iowa athletics. She's a professional who takes her job seriously and I trust her.

I don't want someone foisted upon the AD by a bunch of old rich donors, but many programs are just going with the consensus of the cabal of the NIL check-writers.

And if our donors are pushing Kirk out the door for Mark Stoops we’re in big trouble. I have a hard time believing he’d do even equal the work Kirk has done.

Thread on HawkeyeNation claims that donors are after a high profile name that is leaning towards taking the Iowa job. If this sought after name takes the job, Kirk is out. If he declines, Kirk will stay. View attachment 1024529

Some of you guys with the usual names....sheesh.

It's not gonna be Bob Stoops. He's 65.

Bielema has a clause where he can't take another B1G job. Not gonna be him.

Pat Fitz would not be big news, certainly not a secret as he's been hanging around the program in full visibility.

Mark Stoops is sub .500 at Kentucky. Yes, I know it's a tough gig. Still. Not a real "splash" hire IMHO but he would fit Iowa.

Perhaps there was a time for this, but that was a long time ago,... The Stoops name no longer has coaching value in Iowa City.

I don’t know how some of you have made it this far in life to fall for crap like this. Kirk isn’t going anywhere for a least 2-3 years and then when he leaves it’s because he’s retiring, not being forced out. Some of you love conspiracies.
It's a Kirkspiracy, get it right!

Doubt it. I will say KF has been very emotional this year…more than normal. He’s about broke down crying early in games a few times.

This aint a good cycle to have a coach opening. Maybe Beth has to convince Kirk to stay one more year. What a twist that would be.

Kirk will not be fired.

Coaxed into retirement? Maybe.

When 28 seniors leaving, it would be KF-like to leave. He probably wanted to stay with that group.

I think it would be too much of a challenge to be on the recruiting trail with less than 4 years on his contract.

I think he can tell recruits "we're working on it" this coming offseason and through next year, but then it becomes difficult once it's down to 3 years.

He's already said "I assume we're working on it" when he was asked about his contract earlier this year.
You could also technically add a year without extending the buyout.

I thought KF getting abruptly emotional over a rather simple senior class question, was a little offbeat for him. To me, it seemed his mind wandered much deeper than just ‘another senior class’. Add in the big play emotions against Oregon & USC….

Still don’t believe it, but nothing surprises me anymore in CFB. Especially with an AD who seems to be comfortable making a few waves.
It's not just that. This assumption that Kirk has to be pushed out vs simply deciding to retire isn't a given either. The dude is 70 years old making him easily the oldest FBS coach outside of Belichick who will probably be gone in a year or two himself. The next oldest is 66.

Kalen DeBoer? Who knows what the possibilities could be. He's from South Dakota, played at the University of Sioux Falls and maybe he would want to get back closer to his roots at this point in his career. I mean, Alabama isn't necessarily a lifetime job and Iowa could give 20 plus years of security.

Obviously I'm just throwing that out there but one could never know. It's definitely a name that would be a splash. 🤷‍♂️

I joined today because I wanted to see if anyone over here on this board has seen anything like this. I only read HN, because I’ve never been successful with getting credentials for their boards.

I don’t like the way Fryowa framed it. He seems like a pompous *** - but was wanting to question the credibility of his post.

simple as that.
