Watching live, Gronowski has terrible ability to find the open receivers. When he does, he’s usually late with the throw. I feel worse moving forward. He has parked open for TD on the left side of the field in the third quarter….. threw an incompletion instead to the right.
I like an 0-2 Notre Dame at #15. The important thing is that they tried last night - and the effort should be rewarded
Hell, even on the Telly you can tell he is not making his reads quick enough. Can’t remember if you are a bears fan or not but he seems to have Caleb Williams syndrome with holding the ball to long instead of reading pre-snap on where the ball should go and making a quick decision.
There was one ball that was completed thankfully but was pretty close to not being completed which was that PA pass to Sam Phillips on a deep drag route that he caught on the sideline. MG should have thrown that a lot sooner and Philips could have turned up field and got yards but instead he barely completed it on a sideline catch. There were plenty of other examples as well.

Yep. There were receivers open all night. Missed some, threw late on some. His accuracy is improving. Too many drops….again.
I really don’t understand his lack of vision. It wasn’t a problem at SDSU. You have to wonder what happened to him.
He was really bad the first 2 games in pretty much all respects except running it. He wasn't bad last night. He was more decisive in his throws and his ball placement was much better. Hopefully he can carry that confidence into bigger games starting next week.
Man. Idk. If you were there, and maybe on tv, you saw open receivers not noticed by him. You saw late throws. He’s much more comfortable rolling out. He should have been rolling out all game last week.
There are also times where a receiver will have a 1/2 or 1 step on the defender and all Mark needs to do is lead him with the throw, but he often won’t throw it. Perhaps this has been coached out of him because of the staff’s “avoid mistakes at all cost” philosophy.
He's struggled with progressions for sure, and his decision making has been very tentative which has carried over to his throws. He wasn't perfect yesterday, but when he did commit to a target the throws were placed better and were more timely. He was much better than he's been. He needs to be for Iowa to compete.
Confidence in his throws, or confidence in his receivers? With his experience I would think he should have confidence in his passing ability. I can understand not having confidence in his receivers, since they drop too many balls.
Hopefully things continue to improve each game.
Confidence in himself and in his receivers to be where he expects. He's obviously not entirely comfortable yet in the system from a mental perspective. He looked pretty panicky at times and couldn't seem to pull the trigger when he had open receivers right in front of him. He was late with other throws. His first 2 games also showed a lot of balls being thrown down and to the left which might have been related in some way to his surgery and a slightly different motion as he's not fully recovered, even if medically cleared. More reps can't hurt so hopefully the language coming out about the passing game looking much better of late in practice is more than wishful thinking.
Looking at his play from the outside, I see nothing in his play that leads me to believe that is anything special, and a small step up from what you guys had before. If the reports that you are paying him between $1 snd $2 million, he has been horrible. At the very bottom of the P4 QBs. This is not some young freshman but a 5th year senior, out there. Weak arm, seems to struggle going through his progressions and gets a little of the "happy feet" when pressure is applied. Without a doubt he is not being helped out by your WRs and TE, most would struggle playing for another P4 program, but he has not been good and you have played 2 cupcakes, what is he numbers going to look like moving forward in conference play? Maybe he is still feeling the effects of his injury, but outside of his running ability, I do not see a player that will playing on Sundays next season.
Also, Clemson should be fine too. They lost to two tough teams and won against a tough, gritty Troy team. Probably the drop to #12 was too far. I'd say probably rank them #3 because 1+2 = 3

Nobody's suggesting that he's special or an NFL prospect. At least not today. You'd be really hard pressed to find anyone here saying that he was a good value. This is Iowa. Were we hoping he'd be a whole lot better than he's been? Of course, but given the last several years, at this point we're only asking for an effective game manager. He still has a chance to be that, and if he is then Iowa has the defense and special teams to have a decent year. If not it's going to be a real struggle. If he was even below average against you guys Iowa wins that game and this conversation is completely different.

Many of the talking heads stated before the season he had a great chance of being drafted and playing at the next level. For you guys to get better, he had to be the type of player he was at the lower level, and he is not. That was the whole point of you guys spending the amount of money you did, to upgrade the QB play. So far it has not occurred. This team is going to need more than an effective game manager to win games in your league. You do not have Johnson back there breaking long runs, your O line that many thought would be a great strength is average at best. How many rushing yards did you have against ISU? How many are you going to get against teams like Penn State, Oregon or even Nebraska? Your QB play has to be more than a game manager because you do not have the athletes across the field to win without him being special, and after three games he has not been anywhere near that.

Well he's not NFL caliber today captain obvious. Who gives a sh$t what the media were saying? It's also becoming apparent that you, like your Nebbie friend here are just a troll who knows little about football. Iowa had 134 yards rushing vs ISU. Not great, but not bad considering the offense was one-dimensional. Penn State and Oregon will likely beat Iowa handily, just as they would ISU if you had teams like that in your sh$tty little conference. Nebraska always finds ways to piss down their legs when the pressure's on, so who knows what's going to happen in that game.
Clueless as always, for the squawks to have a decent season, your import QB had to be special, he is far from it, currently after 3 games he is ranked 18th in an 18 team league for QB play. That is not bad it's horrible. All last week we heard on here how the squawks were going to run all over ISU, and they didn't and lost the game. You have a team that is going to lose a lot of games, it's not going to be just Penn. State and Oregon that rolls you, you guys are looking at 6 wins. The cupcake games are over, and it gets real for you guys on the road at Rutgers on Friday.
