But I want to see the Hawks get their a SS es handed to them this year! Never thought I would utter those words, but if that's what's needed to get the captain out the door then so be it.
Sick and tired of this offense being a complete embarrassment and the constant handcuffing of QB's that come in here. No excuse for this joke of a system at this point. Thank God for Phil Parker as the defense did all it could to keep Iowa in the game Saturday, but once again KF just refuses to show any sign of creativity or deviation from his ancient philosophy.
RETIRE KIRK. Its TIME!!
You need to take the fan out of your name.

The worst part of the CA Ferentz mediocrity is that it has destroyed my fandom in college football in general. Iowa can't beat a good team, let alone ranked team, compete for the BIG championship, compete for playoffs, ends up in **** bowl game, or stays at home during bowl season. Then Ferentz goes to the portal and recruits another damaged QB, not that it matters given his superior offensive wisdom.
Beth is in Iowa City because she’s an excellent athletic administrator. And she’s here with the expectation to elevate the 2 major programs and to make the others competitive nationally.

she’s been the full time AD for what 18 months?

She’s gonna be ahead of schedule. She has no real Iowa ties. She’s not buddies with KF or with his family. She would never permit the hiring of a son or daughter as prominent member of a staff.

She didn’t wait on Fran. She won’t wait on KF. And now the stars are aligning. Mediocre results, somewhat tarnished brand, minority of KF sycophants remaining at the University, and just the overall waning of enthusiasm.

She will make a change due to growing cracks in the foundation. 50-50 on if it’s after this year. If not, 100 percent after next.

Agreed. It's still Iowa football and I'm going to cheer for it. And there will be some highlights this year. That's enough for me to hang on believing next year will be his last hoorah, and we can just enjoy his bowing out and look forward to the next football administration.

Nope. I'm not going to wish for the Hawks to get beat, even though I'm ready for change at the top.

KF is responsible for every part of the program, including the hiring of TL as OC. TL is responsible for the offense, including play calling. MG is responsible for directing the offense on the field, including when and where to throw the ball.

The announcers at the game thought that ISU's secondary was better than Iowa's receivers. That's probably true.

In the offseason, TL talked about the importance of big plays. TL can call plays, but the players on the field have to get it done

Lots of blame to go around, but in the end the responsibility lies with KF. Change is in order.

But I'm not going to hope they lose.
This has been the case for years.

I can somewhat agree with you but can't wish bad things on the players. I just care less every game. I quit watching in the first quarter Saturday. One of two things will happen: fans will keep showing up which means four more years of KF or they stay home en masse and Beth has to do something. It really doesn't matter that much to me at this point. I don't plan my Saturdays around their games anymore.
If fans stay away en masse and Beth fires Ferentz, that’s a double hit. Decreased revenue from low attendance and increased expense from the buyout.

I haven't watched either of Iowa's first two games, just not exciting and would rather watch others games.

With that said, I can't get myself to cheer for them to get their assess beaten down. I understand what posters are getting at when they say it, though.
Anymore I’d rather watch paint dry than watch Iowa football.
it’s just so ridiculous we sit here again and again , year after year talking about the same issue. It’s insanity .

that is correct. Ferentz and his ego will not allow him to retire and leave gracefully. He will make it ugly because he trult belives he is the best Iowa can get.

Then go watch the freaking paint dry! I love the Hawks and will continue to support them. Every week.
And we will get better. This NIL fraud has messed up college football. The transfer portal is a joke and will only make it worse for teams not named Oregon, OSU, Penn St...etc.
We will NEVER be in that league again no matter who is running the program.
I'd rather be proud of the young men representing my team than seeing a thug dressed up in a Hawkeye uniform spitting in the face of the opponent while collecting a huge paycheck.
I'm proud to be a Hawk fan. And I'm not willing to take a chance on major change just to try to get 2 more wins.
F that.

what I can't handle is fans like you who accept mediocrity and don't understand we are witnessing a slow, painful demise into irrelevancy.
This isn't a new coach trying to blaze a new trail and struggling, it's an old man who continues to put his ancient, non-effective philosophy out on the field every Saturday and gets his butt handed to him by anyone with a pulse.
I'm appreciative of hard work KF has done over the years but vaccuum cleaners work hard to and even they don't last forever. Same with 27-year tenured head coaches, who is clearly oblivious to the fact that the game has passed him by.
Tell me who you would hire that would cure your ills please

I gave up on Fran more than 5 years ago. When I was a HS kid I lived and breathed hawk basketball. I couldn’t name a player on the team the last 5 years outside of Fran’s kids the Garza kid and the twin guys from CR. I’m starting to feel the same about Iowa football.

An assstant from one of the elite SEC teams.
Just pick one eh? Cause they are all head coaching material...if it is that easy why doesn't AM get it right with all their resources?
We are one bad hire from becoming Purdue or Oklahoma State

How'd dumping Tibbs, with no plan, work out for the Knicks?

Not to mention, Iowa is KF. Losing KF makes Iowa a less valuable brand
How did ISU firing Paul Rhodes and hiring Campbell work out for them? (I can do this all day)

Your second sentence is wrong. Just wrong. The program isn’t one person, and no one person is bigger than the program. Of all the ridiculous things you have posted, that ranks up near the top.

Saw this painfully drawn out with UNI. Then by a miracle, someone stepped up and ushered the permanent coach out the door. Now they have a great match, for awhile.
After the first big blowout, call Kirk into the office, and have a package waiting on the desk.
The rest of the season can be the farewell hankie tour, with plenty of opportunities for weepy platitudes.
In real life, you get your package and security sees you out. Kirk gets a better deal...

Not sure where I said anything to take offense to.

Sure, there are other elements to the Iowa brand than KF. Call it what you want, but my point was clear.

When KF is gone the value of the Iowa brand will instantly diminish

Disagree. Your statement has no basis in fact. But….that’s your opinion and you are entitled to it.

Actually, with 45 years of overall success, the argument can be made that the Iowa head coaching position is a very attractive one. The “brand” remains strong at this point in time and Kirk leaving will not diminish it. But…that’s just my opinion. It is every bit as valid as yours.

I said nothing about how attractive the coaching position will be.

Part of the brand value is pretty simple. If Iowa is interested a certain player, there are high school coaches, nationwide, that are giving Iowa their endorsement, without reservation, because of KF. That dynamic disappears with the departure of Kirk. Iowa doesn't currently land all of those players. But they won't land any that they are never in on.

Coaches are able to guarantee a certain experience at Iowa, under KF. The viability of Iowa can't help but take a hit when he leaves

Again….your opinion, which can’t be proven. Just because YOU say something doesn’t make it true.

There are a lot of coaches out there who, if they show an interest in a player, would get the endorsement of high school coaches nationwide, without reservation.

Given the state of Iowa’s passing game, I doubt there are that many high school coaches who would recommend KF “without reservation” to their QB’s and receivers. But….that’s just my OPINION.

You have absolutely no idea if the viability of Iowa would take a hit when Kirk leaves. Respected? Sure. But he’s also not the god you seem to think he is.

It already is Are you in denial or just oblivous to all the people around the country who've been snickering at the ineptness the last couple of years. The brand is already taking a hit. When people start writing articles that it's time for your coach to go...it's a pretty clear sign.

This program is "post-humiliation".

Iowa scored a total of 3 points in it's last two Big Ten Championship game appearances.

We looked absolutely terrible in 2021, with a totally inept offense. Then we trotted out Deacon Hill in 2023, who subsequently transferred to a little-known FCS school the following year, and he wasn't even able to keep the starting job there. And in 2023 we proceeded to lose our bowl game 35 to 0.

This all happened in games that aired on national television, during prime time.

The only person who was held accountable at the end of 2023 was Kelton Copeland, who was then replaced with ... Jon Budmayr.

TLDR: KF is untouchable. Nothing will change until Kirk voluntarily retires.

Here's a test. QUICK: Name the stars of the Iowa football team. You can't. There isn't one.

Last year you immediately say Kaleb Johnson, probably Jay Higgins. Before that Cooper Dejean, maybe Castro, Yahya Black.

We are thin on talent, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.

Rhodes is not a pimple on kf rear. Way different circumstances. Pollard had no choice. Plus if my is so great why isn't kf? Kf beats him more than he loses and even then it is one score game. So I can do it all day too.. how did firing their last 5 coaches before Rhodes work for them?

Now this I am agreeing with and this falls on the recruiting by the guys kf has hired.

Here's the dream scenario where both sides win.

KF goes on an insane winning streak. He wins-out and earns a Natty.

Then in the off-season Mary says, "Honey, remember the way Hayden went out. You don't want to do that. Go out on top." Kirk spends 7 days considering her advice while achieving a higher plane of wisdom in a sweat lodge. Then on the 8th day he emerges from the teepee and calls his PR Team (aka the Iowa Athletic Department) and requests that they set up a press conference.

At the presser he says, "I stayed as long as I did because I wanted to win this for the school. I am grateful to all of you. I hope it brings you as much joy as it has me. And one last thing, sorry for boring the heaven out of you the last 20 years."
