Serious question. I saw the score today where Burns beat Crest 41-14. Is Burns that good, Crest that bad, or a combination?

Burns is that good! The elementary teams of UC and Union were good. Now they have joined. Keep the kids at Burns and good things can come to that program in a few years.

Keeping the kids will be the problem. At some point they will hear if you want to get college scouts looking at you, then you need to xfer to Crest. Shelby battled that tactic for awhile but now I think we’re over the hump.

That Burns Middle team is something else..

Been telling people for several years, when they get to middle then high school (If they stay together) they are going to be a special group....The group of athletes they have this season is something else, Speed, Size they have it all....

Billy Dover started at Union same time I started at Upper Cleveland... From his first grade team through this past season with the 6th graders his team lost a total of 2 games the entire time Won the championship every year except for one (I never beat that rascal either ha ha) .. He and Dale Byrd are helping Coach Coop at the middle school now also... We had a great team two years ago winning the championship at UC and that group is now 6th graders, so they will gain a couple more very good athletes next year as well..

I watched this group grow up from 1st graders to middle school players and was close to all of them and I am proud of how well they are all doing...

Remember #4 last name of Haynes...Kid already looks like a High School player, amazing athlete... Also their line has a couple kids that look me eye to eye in 7th grade... going to be a special group

That's good to hear. Hopefully with these kids playing together for this long, and if they have success in middle school, they'll decide to stay together and do the same in high school.

pretty sad you have to have that kind of conversation nowadays... (no matter what school you go to, not a Burns/Crest thing)

Pretty sad that with Varsity football going on right now, all us Burns fans can get excited about is what is going on at the middle school. That says a lot about the state of our program right now. I mean, we have a game tonight but no one is talking about it. Why? Well probably because we all are guessing that another beat down might be coming. Don't misunderstand me, I am glad the middle school won and is doing well. I hope those kids suit up for Burns High later on too. I just don't like what I am seeing at the High School right now. Hope it gets better sooner than later.

I consider the middle school apart of our program. Why shouldn't we get excited about this? No, middle school success doesn't always mean the high school will be successful in the next several years. But it could. And that's why I'm hanging my hat on. LOL.

agreed, it doesnt always translate but it also doesnt hurt to have those wins haha. KM had a good run at the MS level (still are) and its translating. Hopefully the coaches will be able to push the kids and get them to the next level and be a very good team in HS

What offense does the middle school run? Are they working close with the high school coaches to ensure things are getting taught the same way?

Based on your season the Burns recruits you did pick up haven't improved the squad.

Maybe y’all can provide us a manual on how y’all do it. I’ve notice y’all have always done well at taking the other schools best players. Then again, if we were really trying to recruit players. Why wouldn’t we take the best ones like y’all do?

Those players made their decision just like Odom made his decision. Main difference is looking like a hypocrite crying about something that is happening in your own house.

They are running the spread over there at the middle school.... When Devine took over he invited us (UC and Union) over for a coaching clinic kid camp etc...
Long story short we at UC (Not positive about Union) took Coach Packs playbook and ran simplified versions of their offense, Pulling guards tackles, etc out of the spread....we ran Cogdills 4-2-5 defense that year (simplified versions of course) .... Drills, etc were all offered by Devine and his staff which paid big dividends for us...

What we tried to do was prepare those kids for what was coming down the line, and I think it is working out for the most part, and we cant thank Devine and his staff enough for the support my last two years involved in the CCYFL

I know UC is running some form of the new offense in areas adding bits and pieces of the wing/flex this year, but still some out of the spread as well....

Really? How many kids has Shelby lost to Crest over the last 5-10 years? Any of them impact players?

I saw a couple of weeks ago and didn't comment that a Shelby fan was justifying why Mitchell left. Wanted to play with his best friend, Bess. I thought you transferred because of reasons like you moved in their district or a hardship?? My daughter is an Athlete and has several good friends at Crest so we can go to school there??? Or I can buy a "house" like Willie did!! Point is no one hardly ever changes schools for the right reasons!

Willie bought a shack. Kid still lived on the lake.

Kids transfer all the time for what they view as a better opportunity for their future, and not just athletics.

The biggest problem with Cleveland County athletics has nothing to do with transfers.

Maybe Cleveland County should just change it all up and have a draft before each season starts lol... Forget transfers, forget which school the kids go to or are supposed to go to, just let he head coaches of all 4 schools draft the kids they want .... That' be fun, right?

I was recently told Number 4 for Burns middle would be going to Crest. Don’t know who the kid is or anything about him. Just what I was told. May be fake news.

When my son played middle school ball we stomped East Lincoln both years and that group never lost in high school. So much can change.

It’s called Hudl and social media. Don’t need to go to Shelby and Crest to get attention. Wish everyone realized that.

You are exactly right, college scouts will find you where ever you play. If your good they will find you. Proof is there are thousands of football players every year that are recruited that don't attend Shelby or Crest.

The middle school and JV is all fun to talk about and everything but I can say from experience, I’ve seen several teams have great middle school and JV teams...but then on varsity...nothing. Not sure how it happens, just does, and that goes for all teams. Prime example, Crest middle had a team that went undefeated about 13 years ago. When that team made it to varsity, i don’t think even half the players on that championship middle school team still played.
