I've never seen this amount of people celebrate a player falling in the draft, never. Two threads on this board alone claiming victory because he didn't get drafted yet. I've only seen this with shedeur Sanders..
Have you ever seen a father/son combo as cocky and brash as the Sanders clan? Combined with the huge drop in draft status? I think there is disdain for the both of them and people have been very vocal about Shedur's fall from grace because of it.

"What If Shedeur Said No? Why the NFL Might Be Forcing the Sanders Family to Build Their Own Table...

Let’s be real, Shedeur Sanders falling beyond the third round of the NFL Draft isn’t just surprising. It’s suspicious.

Actually, forget suspicious. It’s strategic.

But not in the way some NFL scouts and sports media want us to believe.

This ain’t about his mechanics. This ain’t about his arm strength. This ain’t about his ability to lead a team. This is about brand - and we’re watching two very different brands collide in real-time.

The Deion Sanders Brand vs. “The NFL Shield”

On one side, you’ve got the Deion Sanders brand, a brand rooted in self-confidence, visibility, cultural pride, and unapologetic Black fatherhood. A brand that doesn’t beg for a seat at the table, it builds the table and invites others to eat.

And on the other side, you’ve got the NFL. A league that likes its stars charismatic, but not too loud. Confident, but not too controlling. Talented, but still “coachable.”..

The Numbers Don’t Lie, But Apparently They Don’t Matter Either. This Isn’t About Talent, It’s About Control

Deion made headlines months ago when he pulled an Archie Manning. He made it clear: Shedeur would not play for just anybody. He wanted the right fit, the right system, and the right culture, just like Eli Manning’s camp did back in the day.

Only difference? When the Mannings do it, it’s strategic. When the Sanders family does it, it’s “arrogant.” Same playbook. Different headlines. That’s not coincidence. That’s culture clash.

So What If Shedeur Said: I’m Not Playing Your Game? Let’s entertain the idea that the NFL keeps passing. Let’s imagine Round 4 turns into Round 5… then 6… then 7… and the phone never rings. What if the next move isn’t just waiting for a free agent offer? What if the next move is revolutionary? What if Shedeur took his talents to the UFL? (You know, the new league formed from the XFL and USFL merger.) What if Shilo went too? What if Coach Prime pulled up and said, “Let’s do this our way”?

Enter: The Rock, The Spotlight, and a New Playbook

The UFL is already owned in part by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, someone who gets entertainment, brand-building, and culture. You don’t think he’d roll out the red carpet to bring the Sanders family in? You don’t think the cameras, the fans, the merch, the culture, and the storylines wouldn’t explode?

Deion would bring in fans.
Shedeur would bring the eyeballs.
Shilo would bring the swag.
And suddenly, the UFL wouldn’t just be the “other league”, it would be must-see TV.

You think 50,000 people wouldn’t show up to see Coach Prime on the sideline again?
You think ESPN, Fox, and every podcast in the sports world wouldn’t cover it?

It would be the biggest power move in football since LeBron took his talents to South Beach.

And Here's the Beautiful Part: They’d Still Be Playing the Game
Not the NFL’s game.
Not the media’s game.
Their own game.

And if we’re being honest…
This league needs a spark.
Shedeur is that spark.
Deion is that fire.

They could transform that league overnight.

The NFL Thinks It’s Making a Point, But It Might Just Be Making a Monster..

Let them keep underestimating. We’ll keep imagining bigger."

The fact that the Browns picked him makes me think all of the other teams were right.

'Mahomes called the drop of Shedeur "Crazy" - he knows a bit more about QB than people here.
Shedeur's game was right in there with Cam but on a worse team.
With the escalating, national flak I would not be surprised if Goodell made a few phone calls.

Do you honestly think Mahomes is gonna say yeah he wasn't that good. That's the equivalent of a coach saying that about a player. It just doesn't happen. Time will only tell now what happens.

Huh? Cam won a heisman and national championship while playing in the SEC, and was easily the most dominant player in college football during his time.

He’s also 4 inches taller, 50 pounds heavier, but still faster, and more accurate and didn’t come with any baggage (other than the laptop incident as a freshman).

Stop the presses...lol you said cam newton is more accurate? You're right about everything else I just had to laugh at that because shedeur had the highest completion percentage in the nation this year..

Fair point. I was extrapolating that to speed up his throwing and release he’d have to compromise on accuracy. But you are right.

FWIW, I hope he does well - and this was a dose of much needed humility. And I really like Prime - but I can definitely see why teams wouldn’t want to deal with him.

As a long-time Cleveland fan, I'm pleased with the pick. I think he'll start Day 1. The question is whether his weaknesses get exploited in the NFL and he fades, or whether he can correct those and build on his strengths?

Neither Stefanski nor Berry looked happy when the pick was announced. I'm guessing they were trying to figure out a four-person battle for QB (five if you count Deion).

I'm thinking Cleveland isn't really Deion's kind of place, but I can tell you that if Shedeur is successful, Cleveland will support the hell out of him. They don't have a whole lot other than the Brownies.

Doesnt this pretty much say that the Browns draft may be the most successful in history? They were able to get the number 1 player and elite QB in the 5th round!

So- I used to actually like Prime's brashness when he played and would have loved him on my team. But- there were things that were telling. He knew he could cover and he could return kicks. But, he never worked on any other parts of his game.

As a HC- it is still all about him and his. Hunter goes number 2 and you could see the princess clap from him.

Now- on the other side...besides the prank- I would love to know how many real teams called him during the draft to tell him to be ready as they were going to select him next? I would guess that there were a handful of them that played that game. And to any of those teams- I would hope he does become elite and a thorn in their sides for a decade.

I also hope this humbles the kid and he just tells Dad to stay out of things moving forward.

I think like everyone, he was shocked that a perceived top 10 and potential #1 dropped to the 5th round. Not sure that’s ever happened before - Aaron Rodgers dropping to the late first round is still talked about 20 years later.

I think it's worthwhile to keep in mind that there were only about 6-7 teams who were looking for a QB this draft, and two of them picked one up in the first round. Thus, it wasn't the NFL who was passing on Shedeur (whom, by the way, I like. Happy that my Browns got him finally.). It was New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and to a somewhat lesser degree, the Raiders and the Rams. To me, it was the Raiders passing on him that was surprising. He seemed like such a natural fit for the perennially over the top Raiders. But maybe Pete Carroll had already sucked all the air out of the Raiders' locker room.

Nick Saban likes Shedeur and he commented on something I also saw - namely the nonsensical runaway train of opprobrium for Shedeur that exploded and got repeated and repeated .

"Saban also questioned the draft process, suggesting that reputations can be formed based on perceptions rather than actual performance, which might be contributing to Sanders' unexpected slide. He noted, "People start talking and behind the scenes they create a reputation for somebody that may not even be what their reputation is but everybody starts agreeing. And everybody starts believing it." He emphasized: "I don't think you should do that. You should look at what you see in a guy."

All of a sudden the guy who took over 100 sacks the last two years and was still 74% accurate was a bum who "pats the ball" and "hangs on the ball too long." Oh and he became an ego werewolf in interviews. Shedeur is actually a mild mannered guy who is also confident. I never cared about guys boasting if they lived-up to boasts. When I was a LB I liked having a few goblins with big mouths on the D - like LT warning opponents that he was "Going to kick your MF'in a$$." Shedeur is no LT that way.

Saban also highlighted how bad Colorado OL was and how Shedeur has a stronger arm that given credit for. I knew that because I watched him throw 40 yd passes that were flat with little arc. A lot of QBs can throw 60 yards but have to throw ball past Starlink satellites to get it there.

"Despite some teams expressing doubts about his arm strength and decision-making, Saban is convinced these are misconceptions rather than a true reflection of Sanders' abilities..Saban expressed his sympathy for Sanders, pointing out the difficulties he faced due to his college team's struggling offensive line. Saban observed, "He played with not so good offensive line, so therefore he became a scrambler, which was not his forte, reputation as one of the greatest coaches in college football history adds considerable weight to his words."

Like Mahomes - Nick knows the facts. I never saw so much FUD about a player and it was a bad look for NFL.

The perception was created by those that don’t have an actual say on draft day. Most scouts had a vastly different opinion.

I never thought he was first round material but expected him to go on day 2. However, I was not aware until the draft that he bombed the interviews so badly.

The moral of the story, beware of the media storylines. They hyped this one & when it failed they started playing the race card, the name card and everything else except we got it wrong.

Yeah, the stuff that came out after seems pretty valid.

Seeing him with a LV box full of cash at a post draft party after going in the 5th round kind of validates the concerns that he’s may be more interested in being an A lister than a winning QB.

You're still not aware he bombed the interview so badly - that's a vague excuse from NFL - vague nothings.
As Saban said, the vague and inaccurate dings on Shedeur spread far and wide and fast.
I know what a media smear looks like and NFL HQ was behind it

Fact is certain people just hate the Sanders fam and they cook-up rationalizations as to why they should resent them.
Its mediocrity that rises in society and confident, individuals who don't bow and scrape rattle the hive (and the NFL is a hive).
If people don't like Shedeur that's fine - the excuses about his play were just defamation though and that's a bigger flaw.

Its been clear for awhile that NFL draft experts and scouts might as well be using chicken bones and chants to make picks.
How many top picks have Giants wasted at all positions (Flowers, Hernadez, Jones, Toney, Engram, Apple, Neal, Baker, and more). Shedeur and D Jones aren't even close and Jones should never have been a #1 pick

Half the teams don't know how to draft QBs (KC does and were left with Mahomes after Bears blew their QB shot) and only around 25% know how to coach them. Teams like the Jets and Giants aren't among them, and prove that even when they have a decent pick they wreck QBs (who then go play well for other teams)

I'm also curious that as a QB, what did he do to elevate his teammates? It seems that his Dad always goes out of his way to elevate his son and that may be a reason their running game sucked so much. Also- Hunter may have also made Sanders look better then he is.

I am surprised he dropped as much as he did but not shocked he fell out of the 1st round.

The interview process is very important pre draft. In many ways- more important than film. and for a QB, even that much more important.

Maybe Sanders proves everyone wrong and he becomes an elite NFL QB and his Dad stays coaching Colorado. We will see over the next few years
