Because that's my experience with the old man.

How about mentioning all the good BH Sr did for St Ant's for 39 years, yes, 39 years and the kids he got schollys for that may never even have a HS diploma if not for him. How many offer from colleges do you think he turned down to stay there?

How about the thousands of $$$ he got for speaking engagements that went right back to St Ant's. He was a major reason that school was able to stay open for the last 10 years.

And you're going to bash the man because he got emotionally overinvested in games ?

Game was fairly called. Now the Arkansas/St.John’s game is another story.

That game was called so poorly and inconsistently that I was left wondering if I knew the rules anymore. What a travesty, though I’m not sure it would have changed the result.

In my case she SURELY instigated his reaction to me even though it wasn't me running my mouth while my HS stooge slapped his then #1 in the nation team led by his precious namesake. She didn't like the fact that kids from our school had the audacity to cheer for their team in their gym.

Played against Danny in 8th grade and attended Bob Sr. basketball camp in 7th and 8th grades. Almost went to St Anthony’s until I visited school with dad. Nothing to offer academically. Any time you played or were around Danny he was always complaining about something. Thought he was a whiny little biatch. Bob Sr was a hardass but he had my ultimate respect. Bob Jr worked his *** off to become the player he was. Just put his head down and worked.

Some people complain just to complain but there’s a reason the Lakers wanted Danny for their coach. Family knows what winning looks like.

Listen, I’m no softy and I grew up in strict household but have any of you ever listened to the Hurleys talk about Danny’s upbringing. The guy almost killed himself in college because he felt he couldn’t live up to the expectations and demands of his father and the greatness of his brother. And the father and brother admit that it was unfair to Danny. Watch the ESPN show on it. So, yeah, he whines and he’s a baby, but ripping on him for not being one of the greatest college basketball players of all time, or being like his dad, who while an elite HS coach was an MFer as a father, it’s a tough ask.

Agree 100%. Some kid’s can take it. Others can’t for many reasons. He definitely had struggles with the high standards put on him. Danny has done an amazing job in his coaching career from St Benedict’s all the way up.

Mental health is number one and really happy for the kid from Country Village neighborhood success. Keep it going but he was and still is whiny.

Jay Wright while coaching at Villanova stated he visited St.Benedict Prep in Newark while Danny Hurley was head coach and teacher.He stated on CBS Hurley ran a very organized practice teaching basic fundamentals.While at Rutgers under Bannon Hurley also ran most of the practice drills.Bottom line he is a great college coach who has problems controlling his emotions.I will take his antics over the mediocrity seen at Rutgers for over 30 years.

Danny knows how to play for the cameras. Some kids are attracted to this persona. It's not much different than coach K (both are very whiny). A little more NY/NJ bravado. Only difference is there are more outlets and much of the information is real time.
