disagree. he was clever around the hoop too. best player on the team. if he only had the outside shot, he’d be easy to defend. but he could also take strong with crafty finishing moves when needed.

Let's see how this plays out - the idea of playing faster and shooting more threes. IMO, with Paul, Cam, and Mag back, and with what I've seen so far of the Big 10, we would have won 20-23 games. Without Paul and Cam I think 15-18. We shall see.

Cam and Paul chose to leave, so we adapted to a style that suits the personnel that didn’t decide to leave.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we got Noah to play a lot of point well before Paul left. Paul left realizing he would no longer be the primary PG. After he realized he had made a mistake, he asked to come back and Pike said no. Before making that decision Pike had a meeting with his staff and/or players, as I believe was referenced by one of the mods. I personally believe that he allowed himself to be influenced by others here and now regrets his decision. I have no info. however - just a gut feeling. He's done nothing but rave about the kid since he started recruiting him in the ninth grade. I think Pike is too good a guy to not take him back if Paul says he made a mistake, unless he allowed some others not as expert as he to get into his ear.

Rough ending for Paul as he could have won the game at the free throw line in regulation but missed one of two. Washington lost in OT late as they led most of it.
He had a big game though with 11 pts, 13 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and a block while only turning the ball over once.

It’s 50/50 that Mag will be on the roster. He almost left after last season & will command some dollars as a grad transfer if his knee is okay. He’s not going to the NBA so that pay day might be too much to pass up.

If Spencer were here, I don't think Davis would be seeing much time, tbh. We'd have Fernandes as the starting 1, Spencer as the starting 2, and Simpson backing up both. Davis would see some minutes this early in the season, but would end up 9th on the rotation once the conference season started.
Our starting five would have ended up as Fernandes, Spencer, Hyatt, Mag, Omoruyi by late in the season, with Simpson/Griffiths/Woolf rounding out the primary 8-man rotation.
If we had both Spencer/Mulcahy returning in place of the two Williams', it would have gotten even tighter.

But he also will be part of Loyola of Maryland , gue to his 3 years there before transferring to RU and now at UConn using up his last year of eligibility to play there.
So maybe his being a RU Grad and a Scarlet Knight forever was just a convenience
Cam found useful in his college basketball travels.
One could say it was a marriage of convenience, RU received Spencer's talent on the court after he decided 3 years at LOM was enough and seen him leave for UConn for what he might have considered a better program to end his career.
Cam is just a mercenary who sold his talent to wherever he felt would help his basketball career, his earning a RU degree was only achieved because he spent 3 years at Loyola earning enough credits that when the credits he received in his one year engagement at RU was added made it possible wi walk away as a RU Grad on his way to Connecticut
and become a UConn man for one year
And that's... fine? Gettys, Yeboah, and Agee were also one-year rentals under Pike. The only difference is that Spencer had the chance to be a two-year player, and chose a different path.
Only thing that ruffles my feathers with Spencer is the timing, and seemingly leading the staff to believe he'd be back before pulling the rug. Otherwise, he's an RU grad and Scarlet Knight, and I put him in the same bucket as the other three.

You are exactly right this is the world of college basketball now. Most of these kids will not make the NBA so they have to take the biggest bag. Who can blame them I would do the same thing and so would everyone else. Just kind of sucks when it happens.

Cam came from 3 years being at another program, played for a year and moved on to his third stop playing college basketball .
He like others are taking advantage of their ability to jump from one program to another when they feel an urge to leave.
Nothing wrong with that , but one year playing for RU doesn't make Spenser eligible for a RU lifetime achievement award because of his one year at RU.
The credits needed for the RU degree he obtained and thank you for your time being part of making RU MBB a winner should suffice.
Can't hate any player deciding to go for a payday that the boosters of the program he's at doesn't match.
I just won't give a one year rental a lifetime achievement award because he spent one year on the roster
I think Texas looked pretty good in what was a home game for UConn. I think both will be heard from this year

I don’t recall anyone saying anything about having a meeting about taking Paul back.
It also doesn’t change the fact that we have 13 players on scholarship, which is the max you’re allowed. How were we going to get Paul on the roster without getting rid of someone else to make room?
In the last six games last year Simpson handled the ball more than Cam and was looked to more for offense. Simpson took away some of Cam's PG minutes. That's what I meant by positional minutes. Are you OK with that?

Spencer wasn't playing PG minutes before the last 6 games, either. He was nearly always the 2G.
He was the 2G, but he was forced to bring up the ball a lot because both Mulcahy and Simpson where terrible at bringing the ball up the court against any sort of pressure.
All three played minutes at the point at one time or other. The original point I was trying to make, and obviously did not do a good job of making it, was that in the last six games Simpson became our go to player more so than Cam.
Paul committed to Washington on August 4, so he would have asked to come back before that. Austin Williams and Oskar Palmquist didn't commit to RU until later. There should have been a scholarship available at the time Paul asked to come back, maybe two.

Correct. Pike wanted Paul to stay. Paul chose to leave. Rumor has it he wanted back after Palmquist rejoined but there were not any spots left. Either way, Paul was not forced out. This is debatable but I believe he would have started and played 25-30+ minutes if he stayed.
Why would he have asked to come back before he committed to Washington?
All I remember seeing was he was unhappy about the NIL money being less than what he was initially led to believe, which would have been after he committed.
