There was a thread that got shut down perhaps because the title was cryptic?

Serious question for Premium subscribers. List your top 2 or 3 reasons why Premium is worth it.

This piqued my interest from Message Board Geniuses:

Biggest perk is recruiting news especially for football & basketball and some wrestling & baseball.

Lots of in season coverage & conversation of football & basketball as well as some wrestling, baseball & other sports.

Then there are the weekly ask the staff threads & war room updates.

OT threads tend to be about things related to the B1G and college sports instead of obituaries, weather and the million other non-RU topics that dominate the free board.

For some people the recruiting info is a big deal. It's not worth anything to me, because after following the nuances of recruiting for many years, I long ago adopted the perspective that it's all utterly meaningless until a kid signs an LOI.

When you get right down to it, there's no concrete information available on premium board that you can't get from Politi or whoever on the Twitter. If you enjoy spending time wrapped up in the universe of speculation (and have the time for it), then maybe there's some value.

My reason for a premium account is just to support all the hard work of those that make this board run. Sure, I like the news reports and being able to ask questions to our reporters, but that is a secondary benefit.

Same.
I don't see the value in paying for speculation. Or for even concrete information that will be public soon.

It's like paying to get Adam Scheffter or Woj tweets.

"Giants are potentially looking at trading for Tee Higgins."
Okay.......so what.

Even concrete info: "Nets trading Durant to Phoenix". I'm not paying to know that info 3 hours before it's public. I'm good waiting.

I've watched some of the pods with Richie and some of the other staff, and they do have access and a lot of unique tidbits that the national writers don't have access to because they are not on the ground with the team and coaches. Some of it is not necessarily speculation.

I may do a subscription to see what unique info can be had.

But is premium good for picking up women?

Well given that those on premium are more suave, elegant, well-spoken and don't smell like a horse's backside .......................................... yes.

I used to subscribe and would again, but only if the CE board was not part of the price. If the CE board was ever only available as a separate subscription, then I would resubscribe to premium.

This doesn't make a lot of sense. Subscribing to premium doesn't mean you have to read or participate in all premium boards.

1. Because you're not on it.
2. The rest of us Monmouth County peeps are.
3. Because you're not on it.

Well, whenever I take a buy position on a stock, it does tend to crash. Maybe you guys could pay me to stay away?
Don't even talk to me about stocks. The way my Financial Advisor Lenny's going I should be able to retire at 80. All I get is, "look at the long haul". That's when I say, "you do know what my company can do with concrete, right Lenny? Or see those pigs back there? I once saw them make a chicken disappear in minutes. I wonder how long it would take them for something larger?"

Wait, RU saying that as a non-premium subscriber, the Current Events board is not even visible. And as a premium subscriber I help subsidize that board and all it’s crap? That, alone, might be a reason to cancel my premium subscription. I know one can ignore going on it which I do, but you still see the ludicrous most recent thread title when scrolling down to the Olympic sports boards. Otherwise, I enjoy my Premium subscription.

Exactly. I don't want even a penny of my subscription money going toward subsidizing that board.

And I know I don't have to read it if I don't want to. But see my comment above.

If there was a separate subscription price for only the premium board, I would sign back up in a minute.

Good for you! There are moderators on the regular boards that contribute to the crap (or at least did so in the past). One is posting in this thread. Thinking that the money that goes to my Premium subscription although only $10/month I could add to my Knights of the Raritan NIL contribution.

You do realize that the price of premium did not go up when the CE board was made part of premium. So exactly what are you “subsidizing”.

Yes I do realize that. I don't agree with the leeway that is allowed on that board, therefore it is my choice not to subscribe. If you're ok with it, that's your choice as well.

To each their own....

I'm not much of a premium kind of guy, as I largely agree with @RU4Real that the days of big scoops are largely over, plus even when there are scoops, they last for minutes to hours, and I just don't care if I know big news before others do. Having said that I have premium here and on TOS, because the cost is trivial to me and I do often enjoy the feature articles and in-depth discussions of RU sports.

I also get the concern with the CE board though, as it really is a cesspool of mostly nutty conspiracy theories and lots of invective and namecalling with a pack animal mentality. And having that board is a risk to the business of this site, as well as a deterrent for some to get premium - the site ought to separate out the two "pay" boards for that reason, IMO. Having said all that, I do get some amusement out of the CE CJ mafia trying so hard to entice me back: I get tagged on various threads and posts about ten times per day. Not gonna happen though - it's just a waste of time.

I think he's saying he'd rather pay for just premium and not both, i.e., there should be separate subscriptions for both - at least that's my guess.

As someone said earlier though - does having both cost extra? Someone said their was no price increase.

I don't get it.
You pay for 1 thing. They toss in a free extra you have no interest in.
So just ignore it?

Your money does not go towards the CE board at all, as mentioned above it goes towards paying our staff and making the site run on a day to day basis. ZERO goes towards the CE board and zero will never go towards that board, it's literally only there to keep all the nonsense off the other boards. Rather than let it spew everyone, we keep it contained in one place.

Let's get back on track here.

I'm curious about this thought process, though.

If the CE board were "non-premium", then wouldn't that have the benefit of keeping the way OT threads off of the free sports boards? I'm not entirely clear on how making the CE board a premium board helps to keep other boards clean of nonsense, in and of itself. Could you elaborate?

Can't say I've ever heard of a message board marriage, but stranger things have happened.

End of the day we post a ton of insight on not just recruiting, but the university in general from fundraising, future renovations, team news and more.

Keeping it premium, means less users on it, which means less arguments and less headaches for me. Making it free would make it open to anyone and everyone who signed up for a free account, meaning it would attract randos who don't care about RU at all to come and post about their political stances. End of the day I hate the board and have tried to get rid of it multiple times, but have felt it's best to keep it over there the way it is because otherwise it clutters this board, the hoops board and the rest of the site.

If you have an issue/concern you can PM me here, Twitter, Instagram, email, etc -- all of which are linked below my name in my signature. Now let's get back on track here!

if you're talking about mine it was shut done by my request ( I think) because even though I tried my best to explain I was not bitching about the OTs but trying to point out that premium doesn't have those off season and that makes it worthy ..I hit a funny bone (and also over-estimated the mathematical extrapolation abilities of the board). And then I got over-sensitive myself vs. take my beating lol.

I paid just $39 for a full year last year via the promo and just wanted to express an opinion as to the value. Richie's post above says it all. Same reason I felt compelled to at least jump in on NTR to support in a small way. These guys work hard for us to live on this site.

It is a more filtered environment for exchange but like everything these days does continue to "murk" more as time goes on. Based on some replies I'm now hoping many of the folks please stay over here (not you sir and sorry Richie ).

I'm looking forward to paying full price for the next year. Folks on the free site are lucky they get the content they do. Seeing both now I'm shocked its shared as much as it is.
