Just a thought (apologize if anyone has brought this up on other threads) RU and SHU should try and get a 4 year deal at MSG to play a game one of the first weekends in Dec. I think it would be a blast and both schools could benefit
I doubt that would happen. SHU doesn't even want to open the upper decks in their arena when we play there - why would they move 2 games to a neutral site where we will dominate ticket sales all four years?Just a thought (apologize if anyone has brought this up on other threads) RU and SHU should try and get a 4 year deal at MSG to play a game one of the first weekends in Dec. This instead.Don't see them wanting to do that.
I could see us playing a national brand who would bring a lot of fans themselves... a Kentucky or UNC type.
Just like playing a home conference game there too.I've seen this posted a few times. I'm all for a game or two a year at MSG.
Why would we play our biggest in-state rival out of state? Makes no sense.
Doesn't have to be every year.Think the biggest opportunity if we are willing to upgrade the OOC schedule is trying to get a blue blood to come in every year without a return game at their court. Think other teams would be interested to help with NY/NJ recruiting. We would just have to ask ourselves if this is worth it for us.
Good luck getting another B1G school with that after what we saw on the court and stands on Saturday.I don't think it's as bad an idea as the initial responders. But I think all the talk about RU playing SHU or any OOC game at the Garden will be trumped by the Big 10 conference wanting it to be a Big 10 game.
If the alternative is playing the game at the RAC, I think they'll take this.Good luck getting another B1G school with that after what we saw on the court and stands on Saturday.
No way does Rutgers agree to be the home team (from a conference schedule perspective, never mind the NET) every time. So sometimes the alternative will be the RAC, but others it would be their own home court. If the alternative is playing the game at the RAC, I think they'll take this.
Both schools want home games and the revenuesJust a thought (apologize if anyone has brought this up on other threads) RU and SHU should try and get a 4 year deal at MSG to play a game one of the first weekends in Dec. I think it would be a blast and both schools could benefit
Yea I don’t get it. The game is called the Garden State Hardwood Classic, it’s supposed to be a showcase of the two premier college basketball programs in New Jersey. Playing that game outside of New Jersey makes no sense. Both schools want home games and the revenues
Bad idea, battle of NJ, played in NY?
Much better rotating each arena every season
An awful idea that would never happenYea I don’t get it. The game is called the Garden State Hardwood Classic, it’s supposed to be a showcase of the two premier college basketball programs in New Jersey. Playing that game outside of New Jersey makes no sense.
SJU should play in the new islanders arena instead of msg.The SHU game should stay in Jersey, but other NE schools would be good. As folks mentioned above - teams like UCONN, BC, Providence. Cuse?
That said, if I ran St. John's I would do everything I can to prevent it. I never realized how embarrassing Saturday's sea of red would be for St. John's until I saw it.
Hmm, what about RU-St. John's?
Good luck getting another B1G school with that after what we saw on the court and stands on Saturday.
I would sign up for this. Play a neutral site game at MSG every year. That will be a big event.Just a thought (apologize if anyone has brought this up on other threads) RU and SHU should try and get a 4 year deal at MSG to play a game one of the first weekends in Dec. You can’t do that politically for starters.I would sign up for this. Play a neutral site game at MSG every year. That will be a big event.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see the downside for Rutgers of a home-and-home with a national-level program, even if the Rutgers "home" game is at MSG. I thought that claiming MSG as "home" was something you all valued...The issue is many of those schools will probably want a return date. R we willing to offer a Garden date for a return visit on their home court.
Much more palatable to me then giving up home court conference games in the RAC but then that return year could be tough and not entirely fair. If we had Baylor or Gonzaga at the Garden are the return trips to their home courts the next year? Are fans and more importantly RU okay with that? Giving up a lot for a Garden game and not entirely fair.
Probably right. But it would be great. You can’t do that politically for starters.
Never happening.

I think there is a misunderstanding of how the Big Ten Super Saturday schedule works.
The Big Ten does not ask schools if they want to play a game at MSG and then wait for the schools to agree or disagree. The Big Ten just schedules the game. This year, the Big Ten scheduled 9 Rutgers games at the RAC, 10 games at opponent arenas, and 1 game at MSG. That was our schedule.
It is no different than when the Big Ten scheduled Rutgers to play Purdue on Jan 2 in West Lafayette. They didn't ask us if we'd rather play in Piscataway or Indianapolis instead. They didn't ask us if we'd rather have the game on Jan 4.
Or like if Rutgers gets scheduled to play Miami in the B1G-ACC challenge. We don't get to say that we'd rather play Duke.
You play what the conference schedules you to play. That is part of being in the conference.
We can complain about the schedule. We can complain that it is unfair to have an MSG game count as a home game for NET/Quad purposes. We can make requests (like Purdue asking for our game to be moved from the afternoon to evening, so it didn't conflict with their bowl game). And the conference can listen to our complaints and suggestions, or ignore them.
I read them, but I thought that was only with respect to giving up a conference home game. I stand corrected...I think you may have missed a couple thousand posts over the past few weeks.
It is basically.I read them, but I thought that was only with respect to giving up a conference home game. I stand corrected...
Nova is the best example. Seems like a no brainer. Could sell out Garden and Wells Fargo.Hopefully this showing at MSG will open some doors.
Would Nova want to schedule a series with one game at MSG and another in Philly? How about UNC or Duke with the return game the following year in Charlotte? These are the kind of arrangements that work best.
WOULD MAKE ZERO SENSE FOR SETON HALL
I’m stunned they don’t. They did at the Meadowlands. Kinda surprised they are not forced.SHU should just open up the upper deck at Prudential Center and cash in

Agree however the conference is much more likely to listen to other BIG10 schools than us.
So, if a Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana, Wisconsin doesn’t like the idea of playing Rutgers at MSG after seeing the turnout this weekend you can be sure they will be letting the BIG10 know for future scheduling purposes.
As I mentioned in other threads, I was right next to a B1G staffer who said the same to someone from MSG. And yes, the B1G guy knows we're not happy about it. I believe his quote was "The Rutgers folks are pissed."We also learned this week for first time for many of us the B1G contract at Garden is up so no guarantee when and if game will ever be made up for RU? The B1G’s response to Carino inquiry regarding the same was let’s just say less than comforting to many knowledgeable RU fans.
