OK, let's see your predictions for the offense's depth chart for 2022

Here's my CHOP at it:

QB- GW, Noah or Johnny Everything
RB- K Monangai, A Young or S Brown

WR- S Jones, I Washington
WR- A Cruikshank, B Sanders
WR- S Ryan, J Youngblood
TE- Konopka, Johnny Everything

LT- Raiqwon O’Neal, Hollin Pierce
LG- Ireland Brown, Kobe Asamoah
C- Gus Zilinskas, Bryan Felter
RG- C Dunlap, Reggie Sutton
RT- Willie Tylers, Di Renzo

WR is super-thin. Hopefully Ryan can stretch the D.
OL is getting some depth through the portal.

All I know and care about right now is offensive line has been significantly upgraded!
My prediction is that our starting 5 will be from these 7:
Raiqwon O’Neal
Reggie Sutton
Hollin Pierce
Willie Tyler
Curtis Dunlap
JD DiRenzo
Mike Ciaffoni

And it was only 2 years ago we were undersized, outmanned and barely able to pass and run block . Thank You Greg Schiano. Guess we will not have to worry about BTN questioning our physical size upfront.

I agree with all but Ciaffoni. He has three years left and only switched to OL this year. He might be a year away. Don’t forget Rainey. He was playing a lot better at the end of the year. And Zalinskis.

I would be very surprised if Direnzo isn't a starter at any spot on the line other than C. Early enrollee, absolutely dominated at a lower level, and 1 year to play.

A lot of the guys on your 2 deep might be on other teams before the spring.

Yes I like DiRenzo very much as well. Depth on the O line will no longer be an issue .

What is the outlook on Reggie Sutton and his injury. If he’s heathy along with Rainey ,Brown ,Felter .Who am I leaving out other than the “new kids on the block “ 2022.

I only kept in Ciaffoni as potential starter at C. I don’t think Zalinskis will start any game in 22.

This week really was a dream scenario for the OL room.

DiRenzo, Dunlap, Tyler, Sutton, and O’Neil all have immediate NFL potential.

Dunlap, Sutton and O’Neil have all been awarded All-Big 10 honors. And DiRenzo & Tyler were two of the most sought after OL transfers in the country.

The young guys who were thrown into the fire way too early (Gus, Pierce, Rainey, Felter, etc) can grow/develop like a top tier program, into future NFL players. Gus and Pierce will still be playing a lot, and a strong room will only make them all better. Ciaffani too.

However it shakes out, our 2-deep is going to be INSANELY GOOD. And of course, anything can happen with injuries.

Then our stellar OL recruiting class can be groomed into future NFL players without being rushed to the field. But I wouldn’t be shocked if a couple make the two-deep based on their talent level, especially Jacob Allen.

Yeah, it’s overloaded. But the years of the players is quite well-balanced, and Schiano’s clearly thinking both how to win now and 5 years from now. The strength of the room is going to elevate them all.

Maybe I’ll eat crow on this statement in the future — but I think many of these OL will be playing on Sundays. Schiano developed many Big East talents into NFL lineman — can’t wait to see what he does with B1G level talent.

NFL potential?, I will wait to see what it looks like on the field first. Dunlap was most recently a backup at Minn. I would expect at least 2 of the OL transfers to start against BC. At the least we will have some depth on the OL now. RU may finally have a legit B1G OL next season.

Johnny will not be on the QB depth chart next season. he may take wildcat snaps, but will not be in the qb room.

Is there any penalty for transferring for the spring semester, going through spring practice, realizing that you might be a good fit, and then transferring again to another school before the start of the fall semester? With these numbers, is the spring basically a semester-long tryout?

DiRenzo and Tyler as a lock to start.
I expect O’Neal, and Pierce to remain as starters. I think the remaining guys are competing for one spot.

Dunlap will need to compete coming off Achilles and benching in Minny.

Ciaffoni adds depth.
Sutton is a huge ? On whether he can rehab in time.
Rainey, Zakinkas in the mix.
Brown to DL

JD and Tyler are specifically taking this year for NFL prep. Raiqwon and Sutton both All-Big honorable mention (4th best OL in a conference that usually sends all those guys to at least get looks in NFL). Dunlap has the gifts, showed it sophomore season, but overcoming injury will be the big thing. Pierce and Allen def have NFL potential.

At any rate, I think it’s better to hype up a group that we want to gel, especially when attrition can happen. NFL talk does that.

But I also do believe it. Schiano developed a shocking amount of OL nfl players (ie Anthony Davis, Darnell Stapleton, Jeremy Zuttah, Kevin Haslam, RJ Dill, Jonah Jackson Cameron Stephenson, & more) — and that was just from Big East/AAC talent! So can only imagine what he can do with this group. He finally has the size/speed in the OL he’s been hunting for his entire coaching career

LT- Willie Tylers
LG - Raiqwon O’Neal
C- C. Dunlap
RG - DiRenzo
RT- Hollin Pierce

Backups: Sutton (due to ease back from injury), Zalinksi (possible RS to develop further), Felter, Brown, Rainey

Move back to DL: Missouri

Dunlap has never played center in his career. Hard to become a starter at center in the BiG if you’ve never played there. Centers set the protection, command other linemen to shift, identify the point LB and oh yeah snap the ball. It’s 2nd most nuanced position to play on offense. It takes some experience before you step into a starting role.
