If you want a choice you go back to the end line and wait all over again. And you need to do your homework on the J&J vaccination before passing on it. I'd take it the second they offered.

Spot on.

The well publicized "top line" efficacy numbers that are being prominently highlighted for each of the vaccines are very overrated in terms of their importance. Much more important - the vaccines ability to ward off severe cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. I read one article earlier this week (couldn't find it quickly now with a quick search) that said that out of the approx. 75,000 trial participants spread across the various vaccine trials, not a single vaccine recipient died of COVID. The attached article says essentially the same thing:

Every vaccine stopped deaths in trials, and Dr. Jha says that matters most | Boston.com

“The challenge here is, we focus on these top-line numbers of 65% effective, 75, 85,” Jha told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace Monday evening. “What we really care about is avoiding hospitalizations and avoiding deaths. That’s what matters, and we have not seen a single person die who’s been vaccinated with one of these vaccines, and it’s controversial whether anybody’s even been hospitalized or not.

My golf buddy’s MD recently got the 2nd Moderna vaccine and experienced most of the uncomfortable symptoms mentioned, incldg fever, headache and flu like symptoms for a day or two.

He recommended the following remedy for those getting the 2nd Moderna shot:

Take 2 Tylenol before getting the 2nd shot and 1 Aleve after to deal with possible side effects.

Thats the strategy I’m going with.
Or take the Pfizer shot.

1. There are no options. You get what you get and are happy you got a shot.
2. Pfizer has the same side effects as Moderna on the 2nd shot.
You’d think people were choosing between Coke and Pepsi.
Be grateful you are getting a vaccine!!

I get my second Moderna shot in 5 days and I am looking forward to it, could not care less about side effects and am grateful for all of it.

So I've been warned about something I posted in this thread. Step up and tell me where I crossed a line on here?? Other threads maybe but this one??
You’re telling untruths. From the trials, Pfizer is 52% effective after one dose..Moderna is 80% after one dose. Also, they start seeing a difference between the placebo group and vaccine group 7 days after first shot.
I get being pissed about smokers, but the goal is to keep the hospitals from being overrun, so vaccinating smokers makes sense.

and by the way, what makes 68% (or whatever it is) of vaccines not a good percentage. We will never be 100%. They’re making and getting doses daily, you can’t keep up when more and more people are getting vaccinated every day and more and more vaccines are coming out daily.

#1 is not entirely true. Some sites have Pfizer and others have Moderna. You can make it your business to try to get an appointment at a site that has your desired vaccine. Not sure why you'd want to, but you can.

AFAIK there are two primary differences between the two vaccines:
  • Pfizer has a minimum age of 16, Moderna is 18.
  • Pfizer has a three week interval between first and second dose, Moderna is four weeks.

Gut up.
Ben Hogan said sick players are dangerous because they lower expectations and don’t feel strong so they play smarter....lol

Playing golf before the game on Super Bowl Sunday is a tradition w our group outing. Followed by watching Phoenix Open golf before getting home for kickoff.

I dont want to be a scratch from the lineup tomorrow due to vaccine hangover. That’s why I’ll go with the OTC meds as insurance before I gut it up in the $20 skins game.

Does anyone know when the FDA is expected to issue general approvals for the vaccines? So far they are still in EUA mode.

I have a hard time accepting smokers getting preference over my 89 year old mom with one lung (not a smoker). She’s still waiting for an appointment. I’m 65 with asthma. Someone who made a life choice to smoke gets preference?

Smokers don't get preference over you and your mom. You are all on an equal footing, as am I.

The current NJ policy is that "high risk" people under age 65 are in the same 1B priority class as 65 and over. Clearly, smokers are high risk. The policy makes no value judgments as to the cause of the risk. Is that fair? Tough call IMO. I could make a case for either side of the argument.

I would add that I preferred the original classification method to the current one.

Originally:

1A was health care workers and emergency responders.
1B was essential workers and people 75 or over.
1C was 65-74, and high risk below 65.
2 was everyone else.

Then in response to a change in CDC guidelines, NJ pretty much flipped 1B and 1C, and merged the 65-74 and 75+ groups. I don't think this was equitable although I personally benefitted from it, having received first dose.

Re:#1. I don't know of any ability to find out what vaccine a site is distributing . You make your appointment & you go. To that point, Virtua, where I received my vaccine was giving out Pfizer..then they ran out & started giving Moderna. When people get their email saying you have an appointment it tells you date, time & location...not vaccine type.
There is virtually no difference between the efficacy not the side effects of the 2 and, therefore, no reason to pick one over the other..unless you are aged 16-18 in which case only the Pfizer has been approved for that age group.

On the NJ website which lists all the vaccine locations, it includes the minimum age for that site. If the minimum is 18, then it's a Moderna site. If it's 16, then it's Pfizer. (Although as you say, they may have both, and you probably won't get to choose.)

The six state megasites have a minimum age of 16, which suggests Pfizer. Everyone else is pretty much 18, which suggests Moderna.

Agree that this should be the least of people's concerns.

I can't include smokers in that group. There are a lot of others that are high risk as well not allowed. Plus smoking is a choice.

I was the one who raised this question. I didn't say I wanted to choose. All I said was I would prefer to have the Pfizer or Moderna (at 94-95%) vs the J&J at 66%. If my number is called and its the J&J vaccine I'm still taking it.

Do not be dismayed by the J&J stats. The 66% represents clinical trial participants who had NO symptoms. If we are talking about "significant" symptoms (not sure how defined), the level of protection rises to 85%. And if we are talking about protection against death, it's 100% - in the clinical trial at least.

How long after getting the 2nd shot did the side effects begin?
Got second shot at 9:40am yesterday. Went to bed around 1am and I was still symptom free. Woke up at 6 like I got run over. Wife had symptoms of dizziness and lethargy from about 8pm yesterday. She’s also flu like today. It sucks but I’m still out and about driving kids to practices etc. looking forward to a nap though.

I’m also a Giant puss when it comes to these things. I’m one of those people who could play a whole season with a major injury without complaining once but if I get a bad cold, I become a whiny little baby.

I’m not sure if I mentioned here yet, but I got my second shot last week. Felt fine all day. I woke up with wet sheets (insert joke here) so I figured I had a fever/cold sweats over night, but felt fine after that.

Thats good news if you are able to run errands today. Fighting your way through it. Good job.

Talked to the on-site Doc after our Moderna 2 today at the hospital. He described a possible side effect of being so low energy that brushing your hair is a challenging task. I’m sure that we can all exceed that std.

Yeah, it sucks but I’m sure many are way worse off. I drive to a practice, go home and nap, go to next practice, rinse and repeat.

I went to the NJ vaccination site typed in my info and got, “Check back when Hell freezes over”.
You keep me posted and I'll do the same? Below is a collage of the Ocean Co sites.🤬

Got my second dose of Pfizer yesterday morning and that's no joke. Been up since 2:30am. Chills for a few hours and then boiling hot. Headache, lightheadedness, etc.

Seems like some people who actually got CV had lesser symptoms than many who got the shots
Based on my age and physical shape, I very well could have had less symptoms just getting COVID. However, I didn’t get the shot because I was afraid of getting sick. I was more afraid of closing my business and I want to be able to travel.

Today wife and I both woke up fine. No symptoms, little sore but that’s because I was on the couch or in bed most of the day
The day after my second shot of Moderna, I’m going to pre-plan a series to binge watch for the day on Netflix.
Any recommendations?

Since our kids were around yesterday, we binge watched Friday night lights. Can’t ever go wrong with that as a family show. No kids then the usuals. You ever watch
