Wrestling MATCH THREAD: Rutgers 🤼‍♂️ vs. Ohio State

[Lex Knapp]

A pair of stall calls against D'Emillio, along with a late takedown, gives Rivera a 10 - 2 lead. Time expires shortly after, giving Rivera an 11-2 major decision.

Rutgers leads Ohio State 8 - 3

[Lex Knapp]

Mike Van Brill taking on No. 1 Sammy Sasso at 149-lbs.

MVB has one job here: keep it to three points

[Lex Knapp]

MVB strikes first with a takedown on a shrug by

[koleszar]

Sea Bass is just so smart out on the mat. Complete awareness of time, score, stalls, just laser focus.

[PessimisticallyHopefulPragmatist]

"MVB strikes first "

[Lex Knapp]

Van Brill amasses a minute of riding time, hanging onto a merkle. Sasso reverses MVB, but Van Brill escapes. Score is 3-2 MVB

[Lex Knapp]

Van Brill has been a completely different wrestler this season, and I love it

[koleszar]

Van Brill keeps wrestling like this he might just find himself on the podium come March.

[Lex Knapp]

Van Brill and Sasso end the first period on their feet. MVB goes into the second period leading 3-2.

MVB chooses defense

[belushijo]

Oooooph

[Lex Knapp]

Van Brill escapes on Sasso, but gets thrown to his back, where Sasso gets a two count.

Sasso now up 6-4

[koleszar]

O Mike why? You were doing great stay away from the upper body stuff.

[Lex Knapp]

Bad situational awareness from Van Brill. I know he is comfortable there, but you didn't need that

[Lex Knapp]

Sasso keeps Van Brill down to finish the second period.

Sasso leads 6-4, starting the final period on bottom

[Lex Knapp]

Sasso gets a reversal, improving his lead to four.

8 - 4 Sasso with just over a minute remaining

[brentx35]

Aguilar manages to avoid giving up the major decision, but still loses 10 - 4. Huge swing bout for Ohio State

Heinselman continues to develop into a top 10 guy where Aguilar has regressed into a bottom of the Big Ten 125 lbs.He looked like a top 10 guy early last year and you’ve to question what happened to him. Maybe he lost his passion for the sport and strength is an obvious issue. Hope he can turn it around.

[MS-RU]

Love the way MVB is wrestling currently. He is hanging tough and giving it his all despite his extremely tough schedule

[Lex Knapp]

Van Brill does a great job of keeping Sasso's foot trapped, not allowing Sasso to cut him.

MVB loses to Sasso 11-5, but keeps it to a decision. Really good job by Van Brill.

Rutgers still leading, now 8 - 6

[Lex Knapp]

Rob Kanniard here in a huge match against Elijah Cleary at 157-lbs. I don't want to say a Kanniard loss means Rutgers is done for, but it certainly will make things a lot more difficult. Especially after losing 125

[MS-RU]

Need this match from Kanniard to have a chance

[LETSGORU91]

Bad situational awareness from Van Brill. I know he is comfortable there, but you didn't need that

Exactly. And that is the big difference in this match. MVB has impressed me with his wrestling late last season and is hanging tough with some very good competition so far this year. But the situational awareness and the low percentage attempts have come back to bite him in this match.

[belushijo]

MVB wrestled tough. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

[Lex Knapp]

Kanniard gives up a takedown to a Cleary, but escapes quickly.

2-1 Cleary

[koleszar]

Our guys simply can't finish shots. They get in on nice shots then stop. This is fvcking ridiculous.

[Lex Knapp]

Period ends 2-1, as a late takedown attempt from Cleary is stopped by Kanniard.

Cleary starting the second period on bottom

Didn't you say that last year, or was it the year before that?

[Lex Knapp]

Kanniard gives up an escape, making the score 3-1 in favor of Cleary

[Lex Knapp]

Kanniard scores a takedown, evening the score at three

[koleszar]

Nice Kannaird that's how you dig for it with 7 secs. and the escape. Bottom looks mush better for him.

[Lex Knapp]

Kannaird gives up a switch to Cleary, but gets a HUGE escape before the second period ends.

Kanniard is down 5-4, starting the third period on bottom

[Lex Knapp]

Kannaird out and the match is tied at five. RT not a factor.

[Lex Knapp]

Dear lord was that close. We are headed to OT, tied at five

[koleszar]

Nice double Kannaird way to finish.

[belushijo]

Kannaird!

[Lex Knapp]

Kanniard with a HUGE takedown to win the match in sudden victory!

Rutgers heads into the break up 11-6

[Clearscreen5]

Yes! Big win for RK right there!

[MS-RU]

Huge win Kanniard!! Great job in OT.

[LETSGORU91]

Our guys simply can't finish shots. They get in on nice shots then stop. This is fvcking ridiculous.

Hey...at least they are taking shots.

Wow! Great takedown by "Can-aired"!!!

[Lex Knapp]

First half thoughts:

-Is it time to switch things up at 125?
-Welcome back, Sammy
-Rivera is a hammer
-MVB is not to be taken lightly
-Kanniard is going to be really good

Too much Pot smoking by Aguilar. And yes, I’ve heard this from a very reliable person

Dumb comment for too many reasons to list
