Story out of Minnesota that Kirk Ciarocca will become Penn State’s new OC.

i believe one of their rumored candidates was Gleason, hopefully this hire increases our chances of getting him.

If true, good for Ciarocca. I will admit I never thought Captain Kirk would amount to anything as an OC.

I remember a ton of complaints here about the qb staring back at the sidelines before the play....as if it was some egregious offense when it was a normal thing to do and many teams do it now.

How much freedom did he have here to run things as he wanted and also coaches grow too....was it a little of this or that who knows...even DM who I didn't want whose to say what he may turn into down the line....maybe something maybe nothing...but just because you weren't good at one time in your career doesn't mean your destined to be that for the rest of your career.

It'll be interesting to see who Fleck comes up with to replace him...his bubble has been quite limited and now this is an important position for him to fill and KC has been with him since WMU.

edit: wonder if there might be an internal promotion

Matt Simon PJ’s wide receivers coach and Passing Game Coordinator might have a shot to replace Captain Kirk if Fleck stays in house
Simon started his coaching career at RU in 2012 and left Rutgers after the 2013 season for Fleck’s WMU program in 2014 . Then went with PJ to Minnesota.
Matt’s only 34, but seems to be someone Fleck wants in his programs.

I saw his name too and he was the one I thought might get it if he stayed internal.

Interesting that PJ has lost two coaches to other B1G schools after Minnesota had it most successful season in quite awhile and he got an extension which I thought included additional money for the staff. Neither guy is getting a promotion and both announced they are leaving before their bowl game. Not sure if KC is staying with them through the bowl game. I think we are paying Panagos close to $1MM over the next two years and I guess KC got an offer he could not refuse?

EDIT- saw PJ lost 2 coaches to B1G opponents. Kirk is a Pennsylvania guy, and Panagos is a Jersey guy. Some people just want to be close to home, regardless of silly stuff like cost of living--these guys are making big bucks.

Let's hope the OC from Oklahoma sees it the same way.

If Gleeson (yes, “Gleeson”) signs on it is probably the first time ever that someone who spent time at Delbarton and Princeton lands in Piscataway.

I think two solid hires by the Arkansas coach Odom as DC and now Kendal Briles as OC... good potential @Southern Gentleman hope it works out for you.

Also Weis to USF confirmed

I agree that those are two solid hires. Pittman is the antithesis of flashy, blue collar is his mantra. Give us 2-3 years and I think we will be very respectable.

I sure wish we would renew our home and home series with Rutgers!

Wasn't too sure about Pittman when he got hired but he's made some solid choices at the coordinator position...SEC West is tough but a good start with the staff for him.

Don't we have an open OC position as well?
Well looks like we got overlooked again haha...was reading an article in the Athletic from Feldman about NFL coaches that could be the next Hafley/Brady as coordinators.

I don't follow the NFL anymore but some interesting names out of the 18 mentioned. Kellan Moore the Dallas OC was one should that staff be let go. I could see him at Washington or Boise State maybe. Ryan Nielsen Saints DL coach, Kevin O'Connell Redskins OC was mentioned as being tight with Hafley. Jedd Fisch again. DeMeco Ryans 49ers inside linebackers coach were among the names. Mike MacDonald Ravens linebackers coach was also mentioned but not Chris Hewitt their secondary coach and former RU secondary coach who had worked with GS here for 7 seasons.

From the article:

Among the plum offensive coordinator vacancies: Washington, Notre Dame, Oregon, Miami, Minnesota, Cal, Boston College and Indiana. Texas is also open, but Ohio State co-offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich is expected to get that job, which would then open up a spot with the Buckeyes. Boise State and UCF are two top Group of 5 programs that have to replace offensive coordinators as well.

On the defensive side of the ball, USC is looking to replace Clancy Pendergast, who was fired Saturday. The Trojans’ former head coach, Lane Kiffin, is also looking for a defensive coordinator at Ole Miss. Arizona State, Washington State and Syracuse are in the market for new defensive coordinators too.
