It’s only a disadvantage when competing against Clemson, Bama, or OSU for 4/5 star player. It's an absurd argument to make that having harder admissions standards is somehow better for winning football games. We can disagree on it.

I think he meant they didn't have a handshake agreement at the end, not that they flipped each other the bird on the way out the door.I was talking about 4Real stating you could “infer” that they didn’t shake hands.

We don't need all that but we do need to take football seriously.
Does Hobbs really want to go to the Rose Bowl or not?
And you think hiring Schiano today versus a month from now will change any of that?
I agree but giving Ash a field house would not have changed the results one iota. I want to see what the overall plan is toward improvement.I'm reminded of that Quint line from Jaws: "But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter."
If the man wants a field house, get 'er done. Need one anyway
We are already middle of the pack. GS is apparently asking for best in class.
And the "basketball" facility isn't just for basketball. It has a number of other sports housed there along with Sports Medicine. GS would never have gone for that. He wants everything football as a stand alone. He wanted the Hale for just football when he was here. Now he has it.
Had he stayed and won, maybe he would be in position to demand such things now. Things changed for Rutgers and him after he left. No one is beating his door down to lead a p5 program.
Hobbs: When I said Rose Bowl I really meant Red Box Bowl. Both are in California. Sorry for the confusion. This is all fine but then Hobbs needs to shut up about wanting to go the Rose Bowl. He should know the level of commitment necessary to achieve such a thing. Don't say it if you really don't mean it.

Again, this.
To hear some talk about it, you'd think that the football team was getting changed in their cars and practicing in the same gravel parking lot where the cars are parked.
To summarize:
Brand new outdoor practice facility that is absolutely top-notch.
Brand new locker room overhaul that maybe doesn't have a water slide, but is still pretty fly (do the kids still say that?).
Brand new (under construction) academic support facility for athletics.
Yeah, the Bubble is a little dinged up. It's also due to be replaced, per the master plan. Meantime, it's still in the mix.
Absent any real specifics about this conversation, I'd have to ask of Greg, "What the f*ck is your problem?" Because as @Caliknight said, there are absolutely programs out there doing more with less.
Maryland has Kevin Plank. Does Rutgers have someone like that? And PSU is a perennial power, so its people are fine with spending that kind of money. Cannot expect the same from a program whose best coach in its history went 68-67 with not even a conference championship. The money ain't coming out of the air.Maryland has Ohio State Caliber facilities. Why shouldn’t we have the same? PSU is sinking another $70M into facilities that are better than ours. How is he supposed to recruit without an even playing field? How is he supposed to win with recruits that no one else wants? We’re either all in or out.
i actually had 3 months left on the job i had...but I was confident that the other position I was interviewing for would come through.Except I am guessing he had a job already.
Great coaching and player development. Two things that have been non-existent during the last 2 regimes. If your name is not Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Texas, etc... yeah you do. How do you think the non traditional programs (Boise, Oregon, UCF, Northwestern, etc) have competed with the big boys?
Amazing how this board interpreted the news coming out of the meeting. You are very right - I would have been disappointed if Greg did "not" make these demands. They are very reasonable and realistic if you want to win here. Its amazing the spinning you are doing here. This is our one chance at upgrading facilities in our lifetime. No other coach has the cache here in Jersey to make these demands
Its a good thing to invest in competing
it doesn't matter if it's GS demanding it. the RU admin knows that this needs to be done...it's already in their plans. perhaps he wants those plans accelerated. any experienced big time coach is going to ask for the same things. whether it's urban, saban, leach, swinney...they'd all want the same commitment. and honestly, its not like these facilities will disappear if we have to fire greg later on. these are building blocks that the program can benefit from for many years to come.Let's be real. This ain't Urban Meyer asking for these demands. It's not that Rutgers "may cheap out" or "not have what it takes to get Big-Ten caliber facilities", they honestly could be thinking all this for....Greg Schiano? He is wanted nowhere else.

Do you have hard facts about what Plank and under armor actually donate? I get the sense there is lot of speculation and little is really known what UA gives. They are a public corporation and unlimited giving is highly unlikely.Maryland has Kevin Plank. Does Rutgers have someone like that? I had no idea Greg was desperate for the Temple job...is that a fact? How does a guy who was desperate to get the Temple job and their facilities are among the worst in the AAC gonna now demand that Rutgers spend tens/hundreds of millions of $s to bring its facilities up to PSU, Michigan, and OSU levels? Nobody is asking him to win a national championship, just beat Maryland, Indiana, and Michigan State at least 2/3 years and we will be happy. Also, who the hell else is offering this guys a P5 job, he'll be lucky to be coaching in the MAC if this RU gig falls through.
I seriously doubt it.I had no idea Greg was desperate for the Temple job...is that a fact?
Not a factI had no idea Greg was desperate for the Temple job...is that a fact?

It was reported his agent contacted them after each opening, Collins and Diaz. Maybe "desperate" was a bit of a stretch, but that doesn't dismiss that fact he had interest in the Temple job and their facilities are second rate even in the AAC. And I don't think Temple has the donors to improve their facilities to the level of even UCF or Cincy.I had no idea Greg was desperate for the Temple job...is that a fact?
Good article and spot on observations. What level of commitment is Rutgers willing to make with football?
With a report that negotiations with Greg Schiano is at a crossroads, a bigger question has arisen.

There's no spinning.
So how much can we expect your check to be made out for?
Lets be peers with Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and Maryland first before we take on those heavyweights.Exactly. Our peers are Iowa, Minnesota, MSU, and NW in terms of football. 7-5 with a chance at something better every 3 or 4 years.

I wouldn't assume that. How often do you see previously fired coaches leave their 2nd P5 gigs voluntarily. Tommy Tuberville comes to mind from TT to Cincy but he was on the verge of being pushed out there so he left under the guise of his wife is from that area IIRC. Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone else...even Butch Jones who I like as a 2nd candidate is going to use this job as a stopover for another job. He isnt interesting in Rutgers build.
