Sure, lack of development has been an issue, but the initial problem all appears the same-we have been focused on who looks the part, who does better in shorts in 7 on 7's ,better in the green non contact jersey than who is the better gamer, who does better when the lights go on. To wit:
Teel over Hart*
Nova over Dodd*
Sitkowski over anyone else
* Both Teel and Nova deserved to start, but just later in their careers.
* While Dodd got time over the more prototypical Savage it was due to Savage being shellshocked and ineffective after he was too thrown in early.
*Flood' s extreme Laviano crush defied not only the usual paradigm, but all logic.
The above were rushed in (and many times never yanked) because they looked the part better and could hypothetically "stretch the D" and throw the long ball. This continues up through Sitkowski wherein no one else was given a real shot until end of season Gio, and we saw how much more life the o had. The season was forfeited by then because of all the promise seen in the non contact drills.
We now have had a number of qbs leave who were potential gamers and angst has been set forth. We are all in on an entire program on one qb. Not so smart. Really would like to have seen Lewis with a long leash and the freedom to improvise to see if anything there.
