Once teams had some film on him the gig was up. I hope the kid doesn't get hurt bc he takes some big hits.

You know, a lot of us watched his state championship game on TV last year. He couldn’t make a throw. He could throw it 100mph, but he was so innaccurate. Defenses don’t respect his arm...and neither does our coaching staff.

He’s not ready. #FreeGio

I never watched him throw in HSchool. But I can imagine a guy his size running over everybody..IN HIGH SCHOOL. This is P5 football. So far. unimpressed. Then again..this offense is not exactly going to help.

If he can't throw by now he never will. That is reality - you either can or you can't. It is not something you learn while in college

The coaches should have had Lewis run an entire few series in the Morgan State game when he had offensive line protection. Throw the lion into the bull dog's den, not the other way around.

Well why the F didn't they have him throw in game situations during the Morgan State game?!?

I hate to say this but the most likely reason is he can't throw - you either can or you can't. It is not something you learn in college.

This was my concern a couple weeks ago - he's seems a bit slow for P5. The fact that we have nobody to block for him (or anyone else) doesn't help.

As I posted then - there's no great, savior QB on this roster. QB play will not win us any games.

I kinda miss Gary Nova.

He showed he's not nearly ready yet. Nothing wrong at all with that for a true freshman QB. But it seems the majority of the board assumed that the keys to the offense will be handed to Lewis next year and he'll shine. But what if as a true sophomore he's still not ready? If Gio goes the grad transfer route, what on Earth will the QB depth chart look like next year?

Slow and lumbering.
With our Swiss cheese O line he will never work.
We need a water bug with fast twitch back there
It's our only hope

That was my thought as well. He may have some wheels once he gets going, but his acceleration is sloooow.

cut the kid a break, can't evaluate the kid after this game, he went up against one of the best d lines in the country, who are coached up by one of the best d line coach in the country, pulled together by a very solid and experienced dc, I'm happy he got the opportunity, it will be something to build on for his future, which is very bright, once we put a better product on the field

his mechanics throwing the ball are not good right now..long arm release, allmost baseball style.I thought putting him in game when 7-0 and RU at 30ish yard line wasnt a good spot for him.Too much pressure and expectation at that point of game..
True freshman..hard to tell at this point combined with WRs who couldnt start on Monmouth .

ok so how many did actually see him in high school.?

He was not good at read and react with off tackle runs. What he had was a great line with a lot of time to set up ( i say 4-5 seconds) So you have guys running wild downfield, Portareal on the flank. If the receiver is not totally wide open he is sprinting through open space downfield. He gains speed with every stride and you need to hit a locomotive. Thats where the rushing stats come from

He passes great in the video of practice. He gets the ball out of his hands quick and it's hard for defenders to see where he wants to throw the ball. It is hard to judge his ability based on both the Morgan State game and this OSU game. Remember, he does not get many reps in practice since he is not the starter.

So how did Army play them closer than we did? Our OL has gone from respectable against UW to sucks last night.

This thread is so stupid, lewis is the real deal. He has been in college all of 1 month and played minutes on the field. He is young and inexperienced, playing behind an avg ol vs one of the nations top dl. I think he needed to get more time in occ games. Either way he will be fine. Even my fav Brian leonard took time before starting....... their kids

Ash's original idea (to play a style of offense where deception can overcome a talent disadvantage) wasn't wrong, he just botched the OC hire.

Now that we have Kill and reverted back to a conservative style we are destined to suck against the better B1G teams long term because we will NEVER recruit well enough to have 5-6 linemen on each side of the ball that can compete straight up against the likes of what OSU, PSU and Michigan get.

I'd hardly call him the real deal, especially the way we block.
