When RU took a step back in 2002, I was forgiving because we were coming off Terry Shea. We can't pin this on Flood. For all his faults, I don't think Flood, or maybe even Schiano, would constantly punt inside the 40.

t this point I would take am offensive guru who doesn't car a lick about defense. It's much more fun losing 55-48 than 16-13.

you guys are all cry babies.

EMU will be a bowl team this year. We'll probably be a 1 or 2 win team this year. Give it another year. 2018 or 2019 we should be back to bowling imo. We have definitely improved but we still need more consistent QB and WR play.

We also need more talented depth. That won't happen if we play coaching roulette and keep firing and hiring coaches. We need to be patient.

Not going for the FG on the 3rd down and two games in a row of not going for it on 4th and whatever with a good chunk of yardage behind you is a worrisome indicator on Ash's game management abilities. When does the HCJK watch begin?

Well no one wanted Mike Leach when he was available. Now he is turning a program that was worse than Rutgers with less facilities, less recruiting area, and worse weather conditions... And no so called scandals.

Bowling?!? Let's ask Jim Mora what he thinks.

Have to agree here. As bad as we think Rutgers is today, maybe we all didn't realize how deep the hole was when Flood left. I'd give one more year before setting fire to Ash's seat...

HOWEVER the needle has started to move to the other side. While it's not All Conference level, the defense is still playing better than last year. But offense... SPECIAL TEAMS... SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE ASAP!!!!

I wasn't that worried at the end of the 3rd Q. I thought we had figured out how to move the ball -- run counters and have pulling guards. We scored a touchdown riding Martin and Edwards. I figured we'd do that, and win 27-16. But for some reason we went away from what was working. Yes, we fell behind by 3, but had plenty of time to move the ball on the ground.
martin got one carry the rest of the game after he was a beast on that drive.

Add ST and LB and DB. Also, out OL got handled too.

I assumed that we, as a B1G team, had better talent than a MAC team, even a fairly good one. But in the first quarter, the announcers kept talking about mismatches between EMU receivers and our secondary -- I thought "what the hell?" That's why we had to go to a zone -- fortunately, we seemed to do a pretty good job switching between one and the other at the start of a play. It was also clear that our OL couldn't blow their DL off the line of scrimmage -- we could move the ball only with the pulling guards and counters we used in the 3rd Q. (The DL was good on pass protection, although really we should be able to pick up a three-man rush in the final play of the game.) But the one thing I will say: Janurion Grant was on another level. Too bad we didn't use him much in the offense until the fourth quarter.

The former Iowa QB announcer Long was fine.. his partner was pathetic.. I don't know what his probem is.. if he is a MAC guy or what.. but he had a hardon for EMU the entire game... saw everything through an EMU fan's eyes and announced it as such.. many times being blatantly wrong!

Star Ledger is going to love that!

Please pardon the stupid question, but why were we paying EMU anything at all, let alone $860K? Isn't it more to their advantage to play a B1G team than the other way around? Or is it that hard for us to attract non-conference opponents to Piscataway?

Their receivers and QB were clearly better than our DBs. The DBs were supposed to be our strength. I thought our front 7 did fine against run.

First game was probably an outlier. Many here thought this year would be tougher than last.

It completely baffles me how they had guys open against our secondary, supposedly the strength of the team, and yet none of our guys could find space against their DBs besides Grant and Washington a few times. But no slant passes where our receivers could run free a bit after the catch.

EMU might be alright. Losing to a MAC team is not really that big a deal but this particular MAC team is usually terrible.

No, to your 2nd question. The only reason mid-level teams play these games is for that paycheck. Otherwise, it does them no good to play these games which are typically a loss.

Being 1-58 in something never felt so great. First P5 win!!

Good luck rest of the way. Enjoyed this even more thoroughly with the complete disrespect the majority of your forum had for our team.

Congrats. I think many on here expected a close game and a narrow RU win myself included. We have our share of delusional fans predicting a 45-7 win, that's for sure. Good luck the rest of the year.

I'm hardly a football expert, but I never could believe that the secondary was the strength of the team. It's so unlike the way we've been the past few years.

Dont look for much of a home crowd next week vs Morgan State.

Very disappointing loss by RU.

correct...Mr Hobbs is going to have to bring the beers to the students next week...more than half left at halftime and maybe 20K left for a 3 pt game at the start of the 4th....Im thinking under 35K actual for next week

One of my Tough Mudder teammates is from Detroit and went to EMU. He was pleasantly surprised on Facebook and said he might go to their homecoming this year.

A lot of the passes that EMU completed weren't all easy, but their QB made it look that way. Others were wide open.
Have to blame our offense for giving them the ball back to soon each time. Once again, we couldn't make first downs. To be a ball control offense you have to be able to convert on 3rd and short even when the defense knows what's coming. Today we weren't in those situations that often.

This is a very common occurrence for P5 teams to pay lower level teams to come play an away game. It's a reason why we would never return there.

The way WSU is performing tonight against Boise (admittedly, a program on par with the upper half of P5 schools), maybe I don't want someone like the Pirate. At least the press conferences would be entertaining, I guess.

EDIT: I am not trying to be dismissive. I really like Leach as a coach.

Could you be anymore backhanded? I defended you before saying you had every right to gloat. Now you're just being an *** clown. You can F off now.
Go read some posts in the pregame threads on your forum (prediction thread, game note thread, Rutgers only being a 5.5pt favorite thread and the Sagarin rankings thread for example. Complete disrespect and outright insults even directed at our program that has done nothing (on or off the field) essentially our entire existence. Fans of a team like yours of all teams saying we suck and need our program shut down. So sorry for being a little salty and taken aback by it. Look at my initial posts on your forum. I was not mean-spirited and even said you guys would probably win but I liked our chances. Your fans were jerks to MY school and MY team straight-up. Sorry for enjoying the win. A number of you were cool and I respect that.

Enjoy your first meaningful win in the history of your program.
Meanwhile, we move on.
Hey now, we've actually won 10 conference championships and a bowl game so don't give yourself too much credit. We might actually compete for another conference title this year.. Something RU won't do in your lifetime. I've also celebrated 8 wins since you've last celebrated 1.. So..After yesterday and the last 2 years you can't even look down on EMU. One of the legitimately worst FBS programs of all time. You can't insult our program. We are garbage. Everyone knows it. You got outplayed and lost to us at home. What does that make you? We're actually enjoying our first taste of winning football since the late 80's and it feels damn good. Thanks for funding our awful program that needs to be shut down by the way.

Please resist the urge to ban me. I'll show myself out. Legitimately good luck to your team this year. Beat MSU and Michigan at least.
