Considering that team captains are elected by player vote, the fact that Kyle was selected as one of the 4 is impressive and telling. -Quite an accomplishment for someone who hasn't been here for his entire career and says a lot about him as an individual and a leader.

Well done, Mr. Bolin, and a sincere congrats to every single one of "R" new captains for 2017!!!

Yes, congratulations to the captains. It's a great honor being recognized by your fellow teammates in this way and says a lot about your character and leadership.

Keep in mind, the coaches have total control of the "voting" process. They likely influenced it to make sure that at the very least, the backup QB didn't get voted captain.

Exactly, after Cook at MSU you won't see many teams not elect a QB for captain, regardless of whether they win the locker room over or not

Some of you folks may need to rethink your understanding of the words team and teamwork. So far I haven't seen any problems and am pleased to see how Bolin has blended in. And don't worry about Gio as he is a class act and team player who will play an important role during the season and contribute to its success.

Agree completely, Ash would not allow a QB to be voted on if the play was not going to be the starter. Imagine how the starter would feel knowing his team thinks his backup should be captain and not him. Not much of a vote of confidence from your mates.

I thought Gio gave us the best chance to win last year. I think if he stated from the beginning we win two more games. He seems like a good dude who works hard.

If Bolin is better than Gio then we have much to be excited about.

Gio played well for approximately one half of one game.

Gio must be feeling pretty crappy.
Not if he is a team player. He has to realize Bolin has more experience, better coaching and a body of work that is more extensive than him. There will be packages for Gio this year, and he will get his opportunities.

Few are mentioning Janarion Grant not being named either. Probably the most important player on the team .

Another observation- only 1 NJ kid elected (Miller).

The fact that Bolin is here a grand total of 3 months and is selected over Gio , here for 3 years, Joseph here for 4 years says something. Although it appears it was 2 selected for offense and 2 for Defense.

Heck, select 8-10 captains , like some other schools, and everyone is happy, lol.

I think I remember reading Schiano saying he would let the kids vote, but he tallied the votes himself in private to ensure his choices were 'selected', LOL.

Never expected Grant to be named captain, I never heard him being called a team leader/

Wow some of these comments, I think the Russians and Bolin got together and fixed the vote and blackmailed Ash to see it through. Team vote doesn't mean anything other than Kyle has the players respect.

Have you heard Grant speak? He is the best player but not the best leader, which is quite alright

Davis is a Jersey kid by way of a Connecticut prep school.

From what I understand Grant's more a shy/quiet dude. Just goes to work on the field and carries the ball like a beast. But not one to stand up in front of a room.

Which by the way is totally fine.

The coaches have no control. This is a team vote. The team doesn't vote and then wait for approval from ash. This is done in the locker room with all of the players input

Having a true leader out there as QB is huge. Something we haven't had in awhile.

I congratulate these young men in being selected Captains. There are always other great leaders on the team that don't get this distinction but get just as much respect. In a good locker room, you may have up to 10 kids that deserve to be named a captain but since it is limited, they may not get named. I have a feeling this is the case this year.

Kyle was a 4 star recruit for a reason. Probably the best teammate ever who had the fortune/misfortune of a having a younger Heisman winner on the roster. Good luck to Kyle. Protect him in the pocket and enjoy.

Have you ever listened to him speak? The dude is just nice and very charismatic. The kind of guy that people want to follow. Confident and very likeable, I can see why your locker room united behind him. You'll really enjoy him when he talks to the media after games, before games, etc.
