I have a bad feeling about this game, like we run into a Carrington/Powell/Delgado buzz saw from which we can't recover.

Wow this is going to be a depressing weekend for many RU fans. Reality and schedule finally catch up with the remaining games to be played this year. There's always next year though. Where have I heard that before?
Majority are picking SHU to win. Some are cautiously optimistic. Pretty level headed. You, however, are just a prick.

IMO predicting a blowout loss is equivalent to predict a double digit Rutgers win. SHUs brand of basketball is not conducive to blowout wins. They play everyone close and have trouble defending 1 on 1 down low IMO.

If linear, the base case is SHU by 13 thinking RU will lose by 25 points is equivalent of a tie game and losing by 40 is equivalent to RU winning by 10.

3 things working against us
1. there will be a sizable SHU home court
2. I think SHU will be amped to play this game. This isn't Wisconsin or Iowa playing vs. Rutgers. They won't go through the motions
3. 11 of our 12 games have been against inferior talent. I think there will be a 5-8 minute adjustment period early in the game.

Play this game on Feb 19th in the middle of the B1G and BE schedule my prediction would be different.

Perhaps, but not as depressing as when you've finished your shift at Mickey D's on Christmas Eve and have to ride your bike home in the freezing cold chased by stray dogs in Newark because you have a stench of overused frying oil.

Why is the base case SHU by 13?

1. Home court - I agree; nice edge for SHU
2. SHU will be "amped" - Not sure why this matters - so will Rutgers?

3. If using a base of SHU by 13 (still don't know why) then that inferior talent is already taken into account, no?)

Dedicated to Vegas PJ and several other trash taking SHOE attendees, grads, wannabes, dropouts--with apologies to the good SHU posters that add content to this board and are, of course, extremely welcome:

That's alright; that's OK

They did win the Big East tournament last year AND we were the worst P5 school in the country. We are 0-1 vs top 100 teams. They are 3-2.

I am very happy with our program. To think that SHU isn't 10-15 points a better team than us is not being realistic. Not saying we can't pull of the upset, but you have to admit it would be more than a mild upset.

FWIW at the time I originally posted it was 9-4 in favor of RU (which you would expect from RU posters)
Since that post it has turned dramatically in SH's favor. See what happens with mental health counseling!
BTW - I don't post here much, but expect before the SH game, I post things favorable to RU. It's classless posters like yourself and a couple of others in this thread that cast a sad light on RU.

Do we know one another? As it happens, I own 5 MIckey D franchises, but I can assure you i don't ride a bike home after checking on them. If you need a job and want to locate let me know.

I don't get the sizable home court argument. By definition the best the arena will be is half full and predictions will be that it will be 15-20% RU fans.

LOL, trying to figure out what is more pathetic, having to lie on an anonymous fan board of another team in order to escalate some imaginary standing that you have in life ............ or ................being a multimillionaire and spending your time at detailed trolling of another team's fan board.

But hey, you can always take solace in the fact that the mediocre team you root for has been better than the team that we root for over the past several decades........wooooohooooo.

and you must be delusional to think that you've ever been a valued poster on this board and nothing more than a troll here.

I'm classless because I called you a prick for coming on our board an insulting our fanbase? It is possible to have class and still call out a total loser like yourself.

18 of 20 prior to the last 2 disasters were by 6 points or less ... Now that we have a better coach, think that trend starts again.

I feel both teams will bring it and give it their all. I see it coming down to the wire. I think if we hit our FTs that RU will win. Need to try and get the SHU into foul trouble.

It's our turn!

I still can't believe some of you. With friends and family like this who needs enemies. I guess St John's going to Syracuse and blowing them out really didn't happen last night. St Johns was a double-digit dog in that game. Btw, the Carrier Dome is a much more hostile environment. Also, I've said in a previous post fans of other teams treat Rutgers the way they do based on how they see us treat our teams. It really bothers me how little faith you guys have in Rutgers because each season is a new one. Do you guys really think the team has the same attitude as the fans...HECK NO. As a former student athlete at Rutgers I don't care if I was facing God himself I never once thought I couldn't beat him. The bar is set so low around here obtaining success is nearly impossible. A lot of you have been a small fish in a small pond for so long you are afraid to grow. There is nothing wrong with thinking big. Let it start tomorrow at the Rock.:boxing::boxing::boxing::boxing::boxing:

I find it unbelievable that any Rutgers fan would pick Seton Hall over Rutgers. It's a rivalry game and even if you know your team is out gunned you never bet against them. Otherwise you're not a true fan. Save that reasonable thinking for other games.

An honest assessment in this prediction thread is not "betting against" RU. I never bet against RU and I always hope for them to win despite the odds. But, if you ask me rationally to predict whether they will win Friday night's game at the Rock, the answer is no. 30-years as a season ticket holder rooting for RU makes me desperately hope that I'm wrong. But, my head tells me one thing and my heart tells me something else. And, yes I am a "true fan" of Rutgers!

This is a rivalry game. There is no way a rival comes on to this board to say Rutgers has no chance of winning and most of the board agreed with him. Even if you don't believe it you don't let the enemy see it. Everyone's posting how smart by saying how Rutgers isn't ready. They're going to lose 75 to 60. We're doing exactly what the opponent wants us to do by dividing us and mocking us.

I think this will be a close game where a scrappy RU team hangs around until SHU goes on a late 2nd half run to pull away and then hits free throws to make the score look worse than it should be from a Rutgers perspective.

SHU 77
RU 64

I hope I'm wrong but think Gettys will struggle with Delgado and get into early foul trouble.
Doorson will have to try to keep Delgado at bay on the glass.

Freeman just has to convert his shots in close.

It will be crucial that Sanders, Johnson, Williams, Sa and Thiam hit their for open 3s.

Carrington and Desi are extremely tough to defend because they both can hit 3's and also beat you with the dribble drive.

Delgado has quite a few moves in tight and has light feet for a big man.
Plus he's a competitor.

This Thomas kid (PG) is supposed to be a top-end defender.
He's coming off a suspension so it's his 1st game of the season.

The 5th yr grad transfer Jones has played well so far this season.

SHU does not have much depth, around 8 deep.

If RU can get Delgado and Desi in foul trouble it will give them an honest chance.

Biggest key for RU is to come out of the gate well, playing with passion, even take an early lead which will fire up the RU fans in attendance and get them involved.

If SHU's students show up in force while on break, they will be very loud as they usually are vs rival teams.

It should be an electric atmosphere early on as both fan-bases are happy with their teams right now.

Remember, it's a 6:30 tipoff, allow yourself plenty of time to commute in and if you drive keep in mind Newark's city traffic. Hopefully most of the companies downtown will let their workers leave early on a Friday before Christmas Eve. That would help alleviate the usual city traffic.

Wear Red to the game and come ready to be loud.

I think you are vastly overstating the importance of the fans' attitude / predictions.

Whether we predict Rutgers wins by 20 or loses by 20 will have no effect on the result. Personally, I try to keep my predictions as unbiased as possible.

And, prediction threads are pointless if everyone must mindlessly pick RU to win no matter what the odds. Pretty soon, we will be like the cult, God forbid!

There's a saying if you tell a lie enough times eventually you start to believe it's true. You don't think what it said on this board doesn't get back to the players. There are reasons why certain teams take on "US versus the world" approach. I guess when fans get into the game it doesn't have any impact on the performance of the players. This isn't the pros where everything is treated as a business.
I usually don't take this point of view, but this is Seton Hall. Normal rules don't apply. I don't like them, never have, never will and I would never give them the pleasure by conceding anything to them.

In my original post in this thread I said leave that reasonable thinking for other games. The nature of this game against Seton Hall need us to be that cult because pride and self dignity means everything. Rival games are totally different than other games.

I'm not saying you have to give unbiased predictions. You are free to do whatever you like and if you have more fun giving biased predictions towards Rutgers that's great and I have no problem with that.

I just don't agree that it makes people bad fans if they take the alternate approach of trying to separate themselves from their bias when making a prediction. To each their own in my opinion.

I'm not here to argue and I agree with you on that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but 99% of you are picking Seton Hall over Rutgers. Most of those picking Seton Hall over Rutgers can't even validate their reasoning behind the pick. Let's face it we all pride ourselves on being individuals, but we have the herd mentality in order to feel like we belong. Winning is a mindset just as losing is. Break the habit of thinking like that is as important for the fans just as it is for the program.

I get we all hate SHU but Willard has them in a good place right now. This could be one of the top five hardest games on our schedule.

I hope we can keep it close but a road win here would be a pretty major upset.

Just like at Miami, I'm thinking SHU by 12 which seems to be in line with many predictions here.
