So what just happened? Was this just a random blip on the Jim Harbaugh seismograph?
or is it an early - early sign of the classic Harbaugh implosion cascade ... figure it is hard to tell at this stage - could be a like a baby - "just a bit of gas" and once it passes - all smiles again ... or it could also be the ominous telltale of major eruptions to come.

One thing for sure - he seems to be in the mood to get into scratch fights with reporters - tangled with Jim Rome - and just heard John Feinstein mocking Harbaugh for being thin-skinned - possibly because he has never 'won anything'.

Media Rule #1: Build them up so you can tear them down later.

Wasn't it just 2 months ago that Harbaugh was being called smart, innovative, and successful?

Heard on Sirius College sports this morning that he renegotiated his contract to be paid through life insurance. Does he know something we don't?

Harbaugh is a narcissistic maniac and his teams have a 2-1 bowl record and he won the Pioneer Title 2x. So he has won something.......Feinstein is just upset because Harbaugh is his main contender for Sports Douche of the year.

I remember camp vividly. Too beat to pretty much do anything but watch TV, let alone go off campus and raise havoc (drink at a bar). What in God's name did these freshmen do ?

Yes, this is what they said on the radio. You win the internet for today.

Haha. I do estate planning for a living. When I read your post it was all I thought of.

Insurance as part of a comp package is actually very common for high level executives, even though the benefits aren't what they once were. Harbaugh has a good lawyer...you never see it mentioned in regards to coaches or athletes.

Wow...... I don't know why administration in Ann Arbor continues to kiss Harbaugh's butt.

Per article from Wednesday night:

Harbaugh's compensation this year will be $9 Million!

http://www.freep.com/story/sports/c...8/17/michigan-jim-harbaugh-contract/88910306/

$5 million base.... plus $2 million insurance bonus in June 2016... plus $2 million insurance bonus each December including 2016!
That's insane!

I want the program to do well..... but.......

.....WTF!

That amount of scratch for a college coach?... our society is messed up.

If he beats Ohio State, he is worth that kind of money. He has a very good chance of doing that this year.

His act is already wearing thin. I love it.

wearing thin with who? The media who he has always hated at worst and tolerated at best from Stanford to 49ers to Michigan? The Michigan fanbase and administration are just getting warmed up to him, certainly not tiring of him.

If he wins big and stays out of NCAA trouble, he can get into Twitter fights with everyone up to the pope and the president and he'll be just fine in Ann Arbor.

The first thing I thought of was a COLI funded deferred comp plan.

Well if he makes 9 mil a year I would have to say he is smart innovative and successful :). Now we have to find out if he can deliver.

He's recruiting tough blue chip athletes and I for one believes the guy could coach. I say he wins the B10 this year and gets Michigan into the playoffs, potentially the National Championship game. Still these salaries are spiraling out of control.

I know, but think this is what OP is referring to?
Yes - this has played out over several days - I think the sequence was Harbaugh storming out of press conference - Rome gets under Harbaugh's skin - Harbaugh makes snarky twitter remarks about Rome ...then this morning I hear John Feinstein mocking Harbaugh on his CBS short segment -making fun of Harbaugh never haing won "the big one" and being thin skinned.
Time will tell whether this dust-up is indicative of anything.... but it always seems that Harbaugh has a shelf life -

I can't wait until we hang 40+ on TTUN again in the shoe this year!

They may start out undefeated only because they don't play anyone until MSU & OSU which both are away games. TTUN is highly overrated.

Their savior Jabril Peppers is no Charles Woodson. All hype and no production.

I am in north Jersey, but licensed in NY and NJ. We also do a lot of Florida work...have to follow the money.

The first thing I thought of was a COLI funded deferred comp plan.

Could be. As an aside, I had a professor at NYU for an Executive Comp class make a standing off to give an A, no questions asked, to anyone who could identify the rabbi for whom the Rabbi Trust was named. I always thought that was funny. He really wanted to know who came up with it.

WTF are you talking about? Did you literally not watch him play at all last season? 45 tackles, 5.5 TFL, 10 passes defended and some one of the best PRs Michigan has ever had.

Is he a lock down CB? Of course not. That's why he isn't playing CB. But he's unblockable in open space, a great tackler, and outstanding with the ball in his hands. Probably a slam dunk 1st round pick.

edit: and since I have no desire to get into a stupid pissing match on the forum of these fine Rutgers fans I'll hit you with the old ignore button at this point.

Peppers is a great player........but the point of the thread is that Harbaugh is a lunatic

All true. But it doesn't make him a Heisman Trophy candidate, especially with the field we have this year. People are hyping him as if he IS Charles Woodson.

He's only a Heisman candidate if he plays a ton on offense and puts up big enough numbers. Heisman trophy basically reserved at this point for a QB or RB on a top 5 team. If Michigan runs the table and Peppers plays a bunch of RB he could get in the conversation but that is probably a long shot.

I'm not a big fan of Harbaugh, but based on the lack of character John Feinstein exhibited concerning the Duke lacrosse case getting into a fight with him is a badge of honor.

Harbaugh might play him some at QB

he took a few Wildcat snaps last year and might this year, but that's about it. Michigan has a bunch of talented QBs on the roster so he certainly isn't displacing them from the regular job.
