It's funny how last year, the standard response by the floodies to those who complained about the state of the program were "we will be fine" and "we need new fans".
Now that the program is finally back on the right track, these yahoos are now claiming the sky is falling.

I think he obviously had a disadvantage coming in late but Wright was committed. And I'm sure it wasn't just because of Flood. Coach Ash just had to sell him on the staff and plan at this point. He had the opportunity to close this weekend but didn't get the job done. The players that decommit right off the bat I understand. The players that are committed this late in the process AND had on campus this past weekend, I don't see how Ash shouldn't get blame here at least partially
if you can't sell Rutgers over Temple then you can't sell.

this hand-wringing is getting almost comical....this staff will succeed or fail and these couple of kids won't matter in
that equation....
it was always going to be 2-3 years to replace the Flood mess...nothing has changed,,,support the new staff or not...up to you
Maybe the recruit got cold feet when he heard what was ahead. It sounds like the message from Ash is a little different that what the other guy was preaching.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....we're losing kids from a class that was ranked 52nd(Rivals) and 54th(247) when Flood was fired. Other than Rene (was leaving regardless) and Russo (replaced with a kid much better suited for the new O), I'm not going to sit here and cry about losing kids who are simply afraid to put in the time and effort it's going to take to play for Ash and Company.

Yep. All we have to work with for Ash is what we see right now. On the good side he got the QB to commit which was a big positive but the loss of Johnson and Wright after they visited is disappointing. If Ash pulls a few last minute decent pledges that are unexpected, then I can overlook these losses. Got to get Temple and BC in the rear view mirror before RU can be successful.
So a guy who loses half of his recruiting class and who didn't even start his job until nearly a month later gets a free pass? Got it.
Yeah, he was a HUGE help landing all those Top 15/20 North Jersey kids he was supposed to bring in, lol!
Not losing recruits to temple though. losing recruits to a non P5 school as much as we have is unacceptable. One recruit, maybe but multiple? That's unacceptable
EJ and Camp, two guys that didn't do very much in the recruiting game for Rutgers, will be made into recruiting legends by this board. Yeah, Ash should build the program with the message of changing the culture while retaining some of the people responsible for the previous culture, dumbest idea ever!
We had a staff that consisted of EJ, Campanile, and coaches with NJ ties and guess what...we sucked! Yet some suggest that we should've kept that formula, even if temporary, IMO, that's crazy and you really shouldn't be taken seriously.
For what it's worth, Temple literally paid money to get the guy with prior relationships with these players. Not saying that is shady, but it is reality. If relationships matter, then that says everything you need to know.

How do you KNOW the program is on the right track? You can hope and think it is, but you cannot know. This guy could turn out to be another high-profile assistant who is lost on game day.

Ash has done NOTHING to prove he can recruit. Recruiting is the #1 priority in college football. He has lost 10 recruits since he has been hired, even his own commit flipped 5 days later. He has had 2 months now to close the deal on these kids and he has proven he can't. He landed a potentially good QB but nothing else. Committed kids come to campus and then de-commit after meeting him, that is not a good sign.
There are absolutely no guarantees how these recruits will work out. But how do you guys know Oden isn't better than Russo and Bailey isn't better than Wright. When people say trust the coaches, it was kinda silly to say under the old regime. But this regime has championship rings. So, who are you going to trust? The rating system or these coaches?
in my book, Ash gets a pass this year no matter what. While I would have liked for EJ, Camp and Pangos to have stayed; Ash is entitled to execute his vision with his people. This is a 3-5 year rebuild. However if Ash is still having kids flip late on him next year to a non power 5 school, that in my opinion is not progress.
U can spin it however you want and money is exchanged with all programs, it's just part of it. If it's happening at TEMPLE, I can assure you it's happening here, and if it's not get ready for 20 years of being in the cellar of the Big 10, just the way it is.
I get Ash is new and what not but how hard can it be to go into a living room and say, well we have a stadium on campus, play in a major conference and you will compete with some of the top programs in the country as opposed to "At Temple we play in the same conference as UMass, have never sold out a game at our stadium 35 minutes from campus"
This is unacceptable and boarders the recruit flip spree of 2014

The guy brought in a potentially game-breaking QB with legit SEC offers in just a few weeks on the job.
That alone buys him a lot of credibility and leeway with me.

i actually don't care about any of the kids who decommit at this point. Ash is obviously telling them something they don't like. Why would any kid want to live on Temple's campus and play in front of a mostly empty home stadium? Something scared him off to accept that fate. I'll take the promise Ash brings over any recruit at this point. The future is more important than any 1 player, hopefully this just allows him to bring in that many more kids next year who are up to the task.
I wouldn't say that. He's held on to some nice players, and flipped a few others. He's also lost a few, too. I think it's fair to say the jury is still out on his recruiting ability, as well as his overall skill set as a head coach. that's the issue with hiring coordinators, even ones with resumes as good as Ash's. It's a big leap from a DC or OC to HC, one that requires an additional skill set. It's way to early to say he's got it or he doesn't, and the first month on the job doesn't really provide a lot of clear data.
The reality is Ash also kept some kids that we're thinking about decommiting but this board seems fixated on the ones that left instead of the ones that stayed. Check this board, if the title reads 'player decommits' it's 5 pages of discussion. If it reads 'player commits' it's 30 or so responses. One example, Damon Hayes had serious questions, even visited BC...after his visit he emphatically said he is sticking with RU, that got hardly a blip. If he flipped to BC, we would have atleast 3 pages claiming Campanile is a recruiting God. Just like folks are gonna claim EJ is a recruiting guru because we lost some guy named Wright, lol.
Dude freaking out over one 3 star recruit shows you how low the expectations some of our fans have
Every person involved with the program helps set the culture, if he can't or won't the headcoach will fire him.

I am 100% pro RU and Ash but think of it from the kids point of view. Temple had a solid year playing mediocre competition and they have a good coach. They are like RU circa 2004 or 2005. Rutgers is playing in a meat grinder conference and we did not perform well at all in the BIG itself for 2 years. It's fight or flight and he chose flight. I have no problem with his decision for his own personal interests. We need to respect each decision and remember we had a very important recruits flip our way from Louisville and potentially 2 grad transfers. They are choosing to Fight..

Been told from a reliable reliable source that Ash knew all along that this was the reality. Hence the FightorFlight theme being introduced as soon as he was hired. Couple that with 5 am workouts and you're starting to see why some players are more flight. By the way, Mack is the priority and that's when I'd start worrying.

You're right. The negative always seems to get more people to respond than the positive. He has kept some of the class together and the reality is some recruits will feel like they don't fit in his new system. Especially on offense where he's changing everything so dramatically. But at what point does Ash deserve blame in your eyes? Is he given a "free pass" for this whole recruiting class? I know its not always on the coach. Russo probably felt like he didn't fit in the gameplan and I can't blame Ash for that. Especially when he replaced him with another QB recruit that probably fits better. I just don't like the whole "free pass" idea. His job is to keep this class together and all we could do is judge him on what he's done so far. A player that comes on campus and is still committed to you this close to signing day shouldn't flip.
In my eyes he's lost most of the top recruits and hasn't replaced them with players on the same level. That's normal for a new coach. But its situations like this that make me not so confident on the recruiting trail. He didn't close where he should've. One big gripe I have is it's looking more and more like he's just throwing offers out there and trying to fill up the class. Too many diamonds in the rough. I'd rather him take a small class like Harbaugh last year and build up next years class than offer kids with limited offers and project players
The problem is too many kids are choosing flight. I hate use this analogy but it would be unfair to compare RU to Ohio state or USC etc.
Look at what Jimmy Franks did at PSU when he first got hired... They still had the sanctions and bowl ban in place and he flipped like 8 kids (including a few 4 stars *blacknall) before signing day. We haven't gotten jack other than Odin.
That's not good enough to cut it in our division and you would think that since flood was as bad as everyone on this board claims, recruits would be excited for the change.

I could understand if Rutgers went through next season at 4-7 people wanting to see him go, but the reality is expect him to get AT LEAST 3 years to build a team. Rutgers can count on 4 losses a season for awhile as long as they play OSU, MICH, MICH State, Penn State and other B10 teams.
I am happy with a competitive team. Stop the blowouts....Cover a darn quick slant or wide receiver screen.
Do not Run, Run, Pass 75% of the time.
I am looking forward to a different offensive philosophy.
If we go 4-7 and get zero "Stain" in the next recruiting cycle, I may start to get anxious.
When Ruhle takes over PSU after Franklin gets fired next year, we will be in major recruiting wars.
Oh yeah, contrary to popular opinion on this board, PSU program is thought of as one of the strongest programs in the country (even with the recent scandals). Most recruits weren't in HS when the scandal happens. Playing in front of 100K screaming every home game is impressive.
Yes I dislike PSU...but reality stinks sometimes.
