Did anyone predict this? I know most were saying Pinstripe, but when's the last time they said Pitt?

That was a common opponent predicted. In my opinion, it was a worst case scenario.

You're right, now that I search for it. Saw lots of North Carolina, Georgia Tech, even Miami, but I must've just missed seeing Pitt. Good offense. The D will be tested.

Hard to say anything bad about Pitt, particularly James Conner.

We better teach up Odenigbo on containment as the Panthers love that end around play to Quadree Henderson.

Pitt fan here. Everyone was predicting Sun for us. But happy for the shorter trip to NYC. Always liked Pat Fitzgerald and his teams, classy coach and program. See you guys there.

Look forward to playing you guys, but you'll be a tough matchup for our .500 squad. I think we can score on Pitt, but whether it will be enough to keep up with that offense you guys have this year remains to be seen.

Tough matchup but the good news is that McCall will know that he must score lots of points in this one. We look much better when he is very aggressive with the game plan. Should be a good game and to win would be a very good result.

Our secondary is quite porous so you guys should have success in the air unless Narduzzi can tighten that up. We beat Clemson and gave up 60+ to Syracuse so every game is an adventure. With a few competent corners we are probably 12-1 right now as we lost last second to Ok St., NC, and V Tech because of the secondary. Our run D is solid

It should be an entertaining game. Good luck and safe travels.

Best chance in an ideal game for NU would be to establish the running game and keep the ball away from Pitt, utilizing the play-action pass as the situation dictates. We'll be playing a team that hasn't scored fewer than 28 points over its entire schedule.

NU is usually fairly solid against the run (although Conner is a load), but the Cats lost some key members of their secondary, including their best corner, to injuries earlier in the year.

Our fight song used to have a section where the entire stadium would yell "Penn State Sucks" in unison...it was incredible and awesome. Unfortunately our AD removed that part a few decades ago.

I am not crazy about this match up. The only common opponent is Duke with Pitt beating the Dukies 56-14 at home. In addition, their head coach is Pat Narduzzi, the former DC at MSU, so they'll be very familiar with what we do. That being said, if the fan base is at all reflective of Pitt's attitude, they are very overconfident. Pitt will certainly be favored but NU can win this game if they bring their A game. The OL will need to play its best game and we'll need to win the time of possession so that our defense can stay fresh. If we don't ask our D to be out there 35+ minutes, I think our defense can contain Pitt's explosive offense.

Pitt fan here excited to be playing a classy program like Northwestern. You beat out my alma mater for the Rose Bowl in 1995, and I always appreciated that since I was never a fan of Ohio State.

I still remember the Wildcats' 2000 season in the spread and beating Michigan, 55-54.

Pitt fans know a little about academics taking precedent over football. The university pulled the plug on football in 1990 and we had a decade of God-awful football teams.

Here's to a memorable game!

I dont think we are overconfident given what Syracuse did to us last week. Maybe fans expected a sexier matchup (like against our other rivals, WVU) but we all know we are capable of beating anyone (save maybe Alabama) but are also capable of being beat by anyone (except Rutgers). You guys seem to have a good offense so no Pitt fan should be overconfident.

Pitt-WVU would have been a better match-up. Much closer in capabilities. NU is at best average, and will be playing a top 25 team. Hate this match-up.

Good luck to you guys! I know a Wildact fan and I've always liked your guys' program and university. Like mentioned above, nice to see we can come together against a common enemy. Northwestern is better than what their record. You have some questionable losses but also some good wins, which can be said for us as well. Hoping it's a good game and both schools have a big showing.

Welcome to all the Pitt fans here! Tough matchup for the Cats, but I think we can look forward to a high scoring game. Any team that can beat Clemson and PSU can score in buckets.

If we can contain their offense, we'll obviously be about the first to do so. Obviously, I hope we can.

Containing their offense starts with keeping their offense off the field. Ball control, time of possession offense is critical. Our OL will need to win the line of scrimmage. We'll see if they can do it.

I would like our chances better against, GA Tech, Miami or NC but we would be underdogs in all of those games. The only ACC bowl team we would be favored against would be BC. This should be high scoring as Pitt gives up a ton of points and has been doing it all year. Our D really has to step it up or we'll give up 60+.
