I'm really confused. We shouldn't take down statues of Confederate leaders and generals because that's how we learn history. Those were folks who actually fought against the US. They actually made that choice, but those stay up. But you want to hold someone responsible for what one of their ancestors did 200 years ago?

I'm not trying to win you over to one side or the other. I'm likewise not saying that I think Harris is the best pick for Biden. I'm just trying to wrap my head around this logic.

The irony is that many on the Left wanted Biden to choose a black woman to salvage the black vote.....so happens, the one he chose has a family lineage attesting to owning black slaves. ...and she was sworn in as an Indian American, not an African American. Sort of doubly ironic (and off the bullseye target racist request by the left that he choose a black woman to salve the racial division which has swollen in the country the past few months, as hyped by the Left and the media....just all around irony and oddity).

One is separate from the other...She wants to "study" reparations (hint hint-I'm for it but can't say it out loud) but her family actually had slaves, so she is the one who should be paying reparations, not my family who was here before1700's and never owned slaves.

First of all the confederates were not fighting against the US they were fighting for their right to separate. So now I am confused, do you believe that if a woman thinks their husband is abusive and decides that she wants a divorce that the husband has a right to beat her into submission, steal everything she owns and then take away every spousal rights she has for the next 15 years. Fact is that is what you believe and you're to stupid or ignorant to realise they are the same thing.

Is that how you view why the states seceded? You may want to view the articles of secession if that's the case.

I think you'd be surprised how many African Americans have ancestors who were slave owners. It's not like it was uncommon for mixed race children to be born to female slaves back then.

no sense discussing this with you, but every state had a clause where they could leave the union if they the desired.

Is that how you view why the states seceded? You may want to view the articles of secession if that's the case.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. First, the analogy is completely wrong. Second, they were fighting against the Union and the Constitution so they could keep slavery intact. Do you believe in the Constitution? If so, then the Confederates were traitors.

Biden just locked down and motivated the black vote, don't be too upset.

It’s the same liberal logic that explains it’s ok if they do it but you can’t. You can riot in the streets sans masks but it’s not ok to hold an outdoors mass.

It’s fairly racist to think just because Biden selected a black person to be his running mate that all Black people will suddenly flock to Joe Biden.

I'm not trying to defend the logic of the large groups of protesters either.

It's piling on, gonna get ugly.

She was one of the first presidential candidates to drop out of the Democrat Primary because no one liked her and she had little to no support. Biden should've pick Warren or Bernie. He might have made it close.

Not sure I agree. Obama tagged Biden as his VP in 2008. Biden had run for the nomination too, and he didn't do well. Trump tagged Pence, not a big name or a big state. How Harris did in the primaries is not necessarily an indicator of her value as a VP. I think Reagan was the last guy to pick someone for VP who had come anywhere close to a nomination in the same race. I may be misremembering that though.

Yea, but Pence was brought for the Evangelical cred. She is the antithesis of the vocal left right now. Other than being black and a woman, she’s literally the cop and the system the BLM movement is going against.

She dropped out last December. Why? Nobody likes a dirty cop from California. Obama isn't on the top of your ticket. Biden is. He failed twice running for President.
The Democrat Party is a pile of [poop] right now.

Solid point about Pence. I would say that the vocal left isn't necessarily the main target. The most vocal folks aren't necessarily the majority. I'm not saying Harris was a great pick. I don't think it's the pick I would have made were I Biden. I think the calculus was mostly that he's in a lead in polls right now. He picked someone he knew and liked. Despite the debate debacle, she was good friends with Beau. I think that played a role.

I was unaware that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Matthias Baldwin (an abolitionist) and Abraham Lincoln fought for the Confederacy.

He probably should have gone with someone who would’ve helped shore up the Bernie Bros and battleground. They didn’t need California. That’s a lock.

Please. You complain about the lefties all day on here and now you think he should’ve nominated one? BS. You wish he would’ve so you’d have an argument against it...”Biden has sold his self to the far left”. All he needs to do is toe the middle of the road while Trump digs a deeper hole. This pick for VP is not very creative, which is by its the perfect pick. Create no waves and let Trump sink his own ship.

You’re kidding, right? Harris is pretty far left, she’s just not an open socialist.

I’m reality she’s not that far left. She’s not a Progressive. In righty world she’s “not an open socialist”.
Free Health Care for Illegals
Medicare for All
Anti-gun
Green New Deal supporter
Free college
Reparations

Yep, pretty moderate. SMH

Progressive/Socialist hasn't been nailed down as of this time. She will gravitate as far left as she deems necessary to get a vote then change her plank to search out another...soooooo... Politician would cover her situation.
