... I’m annoyed by the coverage of the immigration situation. On MSNBC they reported a nursing baby “ripped away” from its mother. Well, unless there was at least partial nipple detachment, I doubt the baby was ripped away.

It sounds to me like our INS people are acting within the laws. If we don’t like those laws, we can change them. If mothers don’t want to be separated from their children, don’t enter the US illegally. Go to a port of entry and fill out the forms to enter the US legally.

If we really wanted to solve the illegal immigrant problem, we’d pass a law imposing a $100,000 fine and 1 year in prison for every illegal immigrant hired by the offending company. Send the head of HR or the CEO to jail. Two or three well publicized convictions and problem solved. No jobs, no illegal immigration.

Unfortunately the "Chamber of Commerce" is opposed to anything resembling e-verify and requiring legality to be hired (Discussed tonight as related to the bills in HOUSE regarding immigration.) Too many influences over those elected with those voting for them being well down the list as relates to importance! Too few elected officials willing to truly be representatives of those sending them to congress. Thus, we see such unwillingness to do what is quite obvious to most who are willing to spend even a small amount time and effort to evaluate the immigration issues.

If these people trekked all the way from Central America to the US, that was possibly the most safe, well fed, and cared for they had been in months.

well, it's NOT supposed to work that way....

under International Law...

Mexico should have barred the migrants from entering its own country...

but the lawlessness from the last oligarchy has spread...

How about just shooting a few as they try to cross and leave them where they fall? No prosecution costs, no trail delay, cheap, immediate.

It's a humanity crisis of our own making, I love how Sessions and Huckabee are now using the same bible passages to defend this that were used to defend slavery. I think Isis uses their religious text to justify ******** also, ya'll are losing in the court of public opinion, looking pretty deplorable, I hope the "media" makes the kiddie tent city detention centers look happy enough so ya'll can sleep easy, I'm sure Fox news will put a smiley spin on it for Trump.

So sad to see that comment as it reflects everything America is not. What distinguishes us from The Central American countries is that we are a nation of laws. If we have a law, we should enforce it. If we don’t like a law, change it. In countries like Mexico, the laws are secondary. What’s important there is who you know or who you’ve bribed.

You do realize that what I typed was a joke? By the way, how many bribes did the Clinton foundation take in? That's what "quid pro quo" is. There's a law against keeping a private email server, guess that law is one that wasn't kept either. In some ways, we are no different than Mexico.

Just to somewhat clarify, these are not people coming here "illegally". These are people coming here asking for asylum, not MS 13 animals sneaking in through tunnels and trucks. Not everyone wishing to be a US citizen is illegal.

Actually, it appears to be illegal crossers and asylum seekers, with the only difference being when the border agents catch them? I think this is probably a more complex issue than we ca or will discuss on a message board.

Other than those who come here “illegally”, you mean, right?
Honest question...is it illegal to show up at the border and ask for asylum? If they walk through a port of entry, should they really be treated the same as people being smuggled in? Can't we stop a majority of these cases before they cross the fence? I apologize, I slept through most of my immigration law classes.

Sure, what if they don’t qualify for asylum?

Should anyone from Central/South America qualify for asylum? I’d argue no, maybe for Venezuela.

Send them back. I'm not even 10% sure how one qualifies for asylum. I wish we'd raise our immigration numbers as a whole, but not sure about asylum seekers.

OK. We had higher standards pre whatever the Great Satan did and managed not to separate the families, no? Strategy just sounds wasteful and unnecessarily harsh.

When I lived in Yuma, they were dying almost every day trying to cross the desert...

and if they made it, the state of Arizona would pay for their medical bills...

---

An average of 10,000 illegal aliens cross the border every day - over 3 million per year. A third will be caught and many of them immediately will try again. About half of those remaining will become permanent U.S. residents (3,500 per day).

Currently there are an estimated 9 to 11 million illegals in the U.S., double the 1994 level. A quarter-million illegal aliens from the Middle-east currently live in the U.S, and a growing number are entering by crossing the Mexican border.

80% of cocaine and 50% of heroin in the U.S. is smuggled across the border by Mexican nationals. Drug cartels spend a half-billion dollars per year bribing Mexico's corrupt generals and police officials, and armed confrontations between the Mexican army and U.S. Border Patrol agents are a real threat. There have been 118 documented incursions by the Mexican military over the last five years.

Illegal aliens have cost billions of taxpayer-funded dollars for medical services. Dozens of hospitals in Texas, New Mexico Arizona, and California, have been forced to close or face bankruptcy because of federally-mandated programs requiring free emergency room services to illegal aliens. Taxpayers pay half-a-billion dollars per year incarcerating illegal alien criminals.

---it's easy to see why Mexico would object to the wall...---

So you’re for unfettered immigration?
lol. No. I said nothing close to that. Simply wondering why they can't keep the families together until their case is decided. I'm for an increase in overall, legal immigration, but that has nothing to do with this thread. And certainly not unfettered immigration.

Some of these folks came seeking asylum. We treat them as criminals. Is that right?

Hey Keyser...where are "Sanctuary cities" in the Constitution?
(you're such a 'Law & order guy')

And how do we make folks violate our immigration laws?
