I’ve been a Husker fan for a very long time. Lots of my old, close Nebraska friends have become very cynical when it comes to the Huskers. The smartest member of the clan is brutally honest when sharing his opinion of how bad he thinks the Huskers have become. I don’t want to become like them, but I am no fan of BOB. I guess if Trev chooses him I will just fade away.

Goodness. You stuck around through Frost and BOB is going to make you fade away? You should turn in your fan card.

I can’t say I know enough about the guy’s personality to have a strong opinion, but his resume is hands down one of the best we could hope for. As long as he could assemble a quality staff (two guys possibly retained, esp. Mickey), I love his potential recruiting footprint compared to some of our other options.

Our new coach needs ace recruiters on staff to make it happen, and I struggle to see MJ sticking around to work under some of the other options, but think he’d be more open to working with BOB, just due to his resume.

Yes, other coaches “could” find success here, but if the prospect of landing a guy with BOB’s resume isn’t worth pursuing, I’m not sure what else is.

Callahan, Pelini, Riley, Frost all had lesser resumes than O’Brien. Results are not guaranteed, but damn that’s starting out on more solid footing than some other options we have.

His varied network of experience should allow him to assemble a quality staff, far superior to what we’ve seen.

We all learn from our mistakes. He’s made a few. His personality is light years better than Callahans. Might be closer to Bo with the media. I don’t think he would tolerate much nonsense.

Bruce Feldman wrote he thinks if BOB were successful at the college level again he would use it to get another NFL head coaching job.
That would be awesome!

Having a coach come here and succeed enough to get an NFL job would be the best thing to happen to the program in 20+ years.

Good thing college football teams don't have highly prized draft picks to trade away to other teams... Players are a bit different of a story nowadays though...

Doubtful.
You need to do your homework... How old are you?

Loss of scholarships, exiting players given immediate playing to a new school, an administration that was in Joe's back pocket, an image that had you tagged as PEDIFILE STATE UNIVERSITY... You are really showing your ignorance.

BOB would be a really good hire. You know he'd bring in a very qualified staff as well. Recruiting top notch athletes up front will be key to resurrecting this program. I'm sure he'd have assistants that could actually develop them.

This is a pretty interesting read on BOB. Honestly, I’ve never been that high on him, seems like kind of a dick and his offense is boring. But this definitely had alot of information I didn’t know and makes me more open to the idea of hiring him.

From reading that article, it seems that if we could get him, we should get him. The guy knows what he's doing and has a record of success.

If he's available and wants to come here, he's by far our best option. A guy with a winning history at a high level (higher than the B10). A guy who works hard, is not crazy, and is connected enough to get good coaches on his staff. Someone who still has some gas in the tank.

I think we have the reasons why we think he could be a good coach here, just based on his record and his resume.

What are the reasons why he would not succeed besides making some bad trades and draft picks which all NFL team to do? I will accept any football related answers, but none that have to do with personality.

Had a worse record his second year at PSU. 52-48 in the NFL isn’t bad. Lost in the wild card round twice and divisional round twice. Anyone could make Alabama’s offense go. Hope this helps. 😉

We've got Mickey we don't need an outsider, who doesn't understand the culture and history!!!

Not shocking that an Iowa doesn't understand how offenses work.

I'll just be candid about my opinion on BOB. He's already behind the eight ball for me because I am not impressed with his appearance or personality and yes those things matter. I'm not even that impressed with his track record. He looks like a slob to me and I really don't understand what all the hoopla is about. It feels like someone is trying very hard to sell me something that from the beginning I'm not interested in. We're making this guy out to be some type of superstar and in reality, he's not!

The Mike Riley 2.0 feeling. This is my initial feeling and if we bring him in and he is tolerated, it's not going to be for long. He better win big in year 2 or he's gonna get thrown out the window faster than scorched cookware. He's not too popular in Alabama already. Why we are sitting here trying to justify his accomplishments is beyond me.

I can understand bringing in a proven championship coach, but why take a chance on someone like BOB? Is it just because he's buddies with Trev?
We'd be better off just putting Mickey in there and telling him to do what he does, RECRUIT! Then make him surround himself with top flight assistants. He's already proven that he can get kids to run through a wall for him. No one is going to convince me that the ceiling that BOB brings is going to be higher than what Mickey can accomplish with the right staff.

Seeing is believing and I've seen how kids respond to Mickey's personality. I'm not buying this BOB BS.
And I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.
