Unfortunately it seems to be working for them when it comes to head to head matchups against Nebraska.
Be a critic all you want but they are beating Nebraska's *** every year (7 in a row and 8 of last 9 and the last 5 in a row in Lincoln) and have finished with better results overall now than Nebraska over the past 20+ years. At some point ego from fans and the program needs to be dropped and reality must set in because irrelevancy has set in. That's not Iowa's fault-- rather Nebraska's.
That doesn't change the fact that Iowa is using decade old quotes as motivation does it? Which I believe is the discussion.
And why does that matter? Takes away from their victories? They are dominating the series and when comparing results.
Ferentz has had 3 top 8 finishes while at Iowa, another final 10 ranking, and two undefeated conference seasons and multiple New Year's Day bowl appearances.
beating *** is kind of a stretch here. The games have been close. In the B1G, 7 of the 11 games between the 2 have been 1 score games. 1 of the 11 we beat them by more than 1 score. 3 they beat us. Thats hardly beating our ***. OSU has beat our *** every year (except the 1 win, Frosts 1st year, and last year. Not Iowa. Iowa sucks for not beating our *** harder. We are at an all time low and they have squeaked by almost every year.
Can we say that in the 70's and early 80's (before the 1982), Nebraska was a developmental program if you consider all the home-grown players who started for them, many who were not blue-chip players? But with the right coaches and system, they were quite successful. This allowed them to be successful in recruiting the blue-chippers in the mid 80's (Gill, Rozier, Fryer, Steve Taylor, Johnny Mitchell) through the late 90's (Frazier, Phillips, Newcomb, the Peters, Alberts) nationally.
Don’t know about Frost getting it done but yes to your answer and we have had 3 Head Coaches (Devaney, Osborne and even Solich) that blows away what ever Ferentz has ever accomplished at Ioway..

Nebraska is the only home game on Iowa’s schedule that isn’t a sell-out, yet. I think Iowa fans in Western Iowa are obsessed with Nebraska, ISU in Central Iowa, and Minnesota and Wisconsin in Eastern Iowa.

I agree and I think our football program shares those beliefs. Iowa is lame. I'll throw in Purdue, Northwestern, and Minnesota. But yet, we play those teams every year and struggle against them. So what does that make us?
