Do any of you have jobs where you can openly go interview for other jobs and still come back to your current job?

I have done it a few times that way and I could always tell that my principal was not a huge fan.

Vikings almost have to hire a black coach now don't they? I mean, how could it be anyone else? Er wait, are there any black female coaches coaching anywhere? I mean if that's the way the Supreme Court works, the NFL has to follow suit don't they?

The old rule of thumb is do it once, IF you want to do it again, you should quit your current job. For a boss, I'm surprised he didn't give you your walking papers but then you've got a government job so there is that.

Should be an attractive job. Roster is pretty good and division is pretty bad

Dude, you’re a teacher(so am I for that matter).

I wouldn’t be easy to replace with one hire or maybe even two with my teaching/coaching responsibilities,

That being said, what I do on a yearly basis(and you as well) doesn’t even sniff the difference of $$ that Harbaugh makes churn compared to what his replacement would be.

Woke up and saw that the Vikings owner wasn’t camped out in his front yard and changed his mind

Oh for sure...I just always hated having to be like "Ummmm, can I get a letter of rec because I am looking at other jobs"

I know it took a while for UM to right the ship, but if my HC is out looking, I wait for all the vacancies to be filled then show him the effin door!!

As an employer, I know for a fact that if an employee is looking for another job, there is nothing you can do to keep them no matter what you pay or do for them. I want stability in the HC position and Harbaugh just burnt that bridge. Bye-bye...

Lol.

Makes me think of a conversation I had with a teacher I golf with.

I think most people are FAR more replaceable than they think they are, but Teachers especially seem to be high on the "can't replace me easily" quotient.

It wasn't his decision - he had no offers from any NFL team and crawled back to Michigan. And like idiots, they welcomed him back.

Dude, I worked with a guy who had been at the school for like 35 years...he left and within like 3 months it was like he was totally forgotten.

The students forgot about him, the new guy no longer got the "Well that is not how so-so did it" line, it was like he was never there.

We (teachers especially) always think that "we" are more important than we really are.

Yeah, I think JH thought it was his job for sure and then it turned out they sort of actually wanted to, you know, interview him.

Harbaugh is a complete a hole, but I don’t think that has ever been in question. Dude wanted to cheat on his wife, took off his pants………then got denied. And asked to come back with open arms. And Michigan lubed up and took it.

It's a tricky road to navigate. It's one thing to have a job and other teams express interest. That's flattering. It's another thing to openly search for another job and then come up short. "Hey guys, just kidding, I'm totally committed"

I'd be in no hurry to extend him or give him more money.

I think it is just a weird spot.

I mean I bet most of us look online at other jobs all the time, not even with the intention of leaving but just taking a look to see what is out there.

But some bosses look at you as a bad person for wanting to leave but for most people we just want to see if there is something that we think is better for us.

It doesn't matter if it is going from 4 million a year to 8 million a year or 40k a year to 50k a year...

For a great teacher, the kids and parents who experienced him or her will always remember how they did things. My oldest son had a couple of teachers who retired then went on to teach at an area college. GREAT teachers. My daughter had their replacements. It led her to say "I never want to take another science or math class". That's why we've paid 70K/ year for a .......history degree. For you coaches out there, my high school sent out a survey to their graduates who were either seniors in college or already in post-grad programs like myself. They asked what things or teachers helped you the most in your academic pursuits. My response noted 2 guys. One was my football coach and the other was a music teacher. That football coach had a profoundly positive effect on my life.

Oh for sure...I am just talking about inside the building.

I 100% agree with you about the other part.

It was reported that his interview yesterday lasted 9 hours. I'm sure that he can turn a lot of people off in 9 hours.

I always found teachers to be over-educated for their intelligence.

My own bias is that I think we're dumbing down our teachers. My older kids had some extremely bright teachers all the way through from grade school on up. Of course my wife dictated as much as she could what teachers our kids got in school. My youngest had fewer options and there was no question that at least for math and science the younger teachers were not as good nor were they as dedicated to their profession. Maybe they will get better with experience and when their own families are kids are out of their house. Let's face it, the best and brightest are probably going in to higher paying fields for the most part.

IF in fact the "interview" lasted 9 hours, I have a hunch that the Vikings were serious about hiring him but the negotiations over his contract did not go well. My suspicion is that Harbaugh wanted a long term guaranteed deal at 10 Million plus and the Vikings weren't willing to go that far.

I read all of these stories from my news feed and they interviewed Patrick Graham for a reported 9 hours as well. I thought that was an awfully long time. If you were down to business, you can probably wrap it up in 3 or 4 hours, have a handshake agreement and let the bean counters sort the details.

You could be right though that his ask was too high. The Wilfs are not cheap. I suspect O'Connell came in there with a vision that impressed them. A new, younger breed of coach is having a lot of success. How they relate to players is different than in the past. KOC fits that. Harbaugh does not. I think it's intriguing and a total break from what they've done previously.

Teachers are a great App and a stable internet connection away from being extinct. Can't wait.
Well, sort of, but you have to remember the most important thing.

Parents tend to hate having their kids around so they need to send them somewhere and that place is school.

Everybody is replaceable. But I do think the good teachers are appreciated and remembered. It's just that life goes on. The here and now is what people have on their minds.
