....it is time to figure out what we need to be targeting based on what we are losing and gaining. We lost many of the major pieces of Riley's class but got some adds from OVs this weekend. The losses were expected and understandable, but it is important that we overcome them. The two additions this weekend are big because it shows the new staff can close.

Does anyone have a good grasp on what numbers we are targeting position wise?

I see WR and DB as areas of great concern. I stole this from @TwinsRRUs from another thread (thanks, nice work dude) because it shows our current WR situation.

Stanley Morgan Jr. 6-1 195 Sr.
Bryan Reimers 6-5 210 Sr. .
Keyan Williams 5-10 195 Sr.
Zach Darlington 6-2 195 Sr.

Conor Young
6-2 180 Jr.

JD Spielman 5-9 180 So. .
Tyjon Lindsey 5-9 160 So.
Ty Chaffin 6-5 200 So.
Johnny Richard 6-5 203 So.
Todd Honas 5-11 195 So. .

Jaevon McQuitty 6-0 195 RFr. .
Dylan Reynolds 6-0 170 RFr. .
Brandon Robbins 5-10 190 RFr. .
Kade Warner 6-1 200 RFr.
Chad Aloth Jr. 6-2 170 RFr. .
Christian Banker 6-1 185 RFr.

We now have Woodyard and we believe we have Keyshawn J Jr returning. I put Keyan and Zach in italics because they are not really parts of the WR crew. I kind of expect Keyan to leave and Zach is a holder. I think we need to add a freshman or two to this group to feel safe since Woodyard and Key are older. We are razor thin if the injury bug bites. Keep your fingers crossed boys!

Other spots:
DBs and specifically CB are a must in this class and could require a JUCO infusion. Should we take at least 3?
We will definitely be taking a QB and a RB.
I feel we need to add OL as well. No way we only take Farniok. We need an OT.
I feel we are set at TE but still might take the one who visited this past weekend.

Any ideas about LB or DL? Current commits might be OK for the DL.

Here is one of my posts from a coachDubs thread: Edit: This is from Nov. 27... some thoughts might have changed since then!

We all have read the stories about Bo leaving the cupboard empty for a couple positions. I think Riley helped fix that issue... but a couple positions had a rough couple years with players leaving, not qualifying, or decommitting late (WR, DB) so... here goes.

Scholarship Distribution Chart

Freshmen: 17 (17)
RS Freshmen: 15 (32)
Sophomores: 16 (48)
Juniors: 19 (67)
Seniors: 16 (83)

Returning scholarship players:
QB: 3 (Includes Lee)
IB: 4
FB: 1
WR: 6 (includes Darlington and Coach Dub's son)
TE: 5
OL: 15 (Does Chris Walker stay on O or move to D?)
DL: 9 (These numbers are skewed as some OLB and DEs have switched)
LB: 14 (Again, some OLB moved from DE and vice versa)
CB: 4 (Stovall will probably play going forward, might get a scholly for SR year?)
S: 5
ST: 2

From looking at the numbers, I think we are short in a few positions. You should at least have 3 players deep at almost every position... right?
(Some positions can have a player play multiple positions to help out, such as OL, DL... for example: we don't really need 3 DTs at each position in a 4-3 do we? Or we could have a player like Freedom slide in to DT in a pinch.)

We need to push hard to get a few WRs in this class and the next, especially if Frost likes to run 4 WRs at times. (I don't have a clue if he does or not...) If you have two get injured, you are down to only 4 (excluding true freshmen, but includes Darlington). We need at least 3 WRs in this 2018 class.

DB looks like it needs a big boost in numbers as well. 9 returning players for 8-10 positions (4 DBs for base defense and 5 for nickel defense). No 3 deep! We need at least 4 DBs in this 2018 class. Does LJ stay?

Here is what I would take in each class (2018, 2019):
QB: 1, 1
IB: 1, 1
FB: 0, 0 (Current UCF depth chart doesn't show a FB)
WR: 5, 3 (For sure 5 if no KJJ)
TE: 0, 2
OL: 2, 4
DL: 4, 3 (We gotta get better on DL overall) (Not separating DE and DT due to unknown of 3-4 or 4-3)
LB: 2, 3 (Not sure if we will run a 3-4 or 4-3)
CB: 3, 3
S: 3, 2
ST: 1, 0 (A kicker for 2018)

2018: 22 (89)
2019: 22 (92)

We will lose at least 2 players from the current roster with the coaching transition... right?
Can we really end up pushing out up to 7 players by the fall of 2019? Who knows...:)

Recruit more than you need because something always happens to lose players. I am tired of being on the short side of 85!

I agree about Darlington. Concussion issues, so never actually played the WR position that I am aware of and jist held the ball for the kicker.

If he cannot play WR due to concussion history, he might as well move on. This was his 4th year.

I think KWs son Keyan Williams stays since he will be a redshirt senior, unless he decides to quit football completely.

Getting JUCO WRs is a must to even the classes out. We need at least 5 WRs in this class and at least 4 DBs. Those three positions should be the highest priority right now.

Could Williams grad transfer?

We have at least two real good walk on receivers. I'm not concerned about filling scholarship numbers out completely for the Wr's because we've had some walk one's who've played very well in recent years.

Why would you put Keyan in italics? He played quite a bit for us at the end of the year and I thought looked pretty good. If anything I almost think having his dad as his coach was a detriment to his playing time. Pops looked to me to be harder on him than a coach who wasn't his daddy would have been. JMHO. We could sure use him to stick around. My only MUST gets for this class are DBs and OTs. A QB, RB and a couple of WRs are much needed but man we HAVE to get DBs and at least one OT.
