Saw this on a UF message board, their fans seem to think this guy is somewhat credible. But until they name a coach, I'm still concerned they are a threat for Frost, and if he's really not considering options until December, it could put us in a bind if says no.

What is Spurrier's role in the AD? Why do they care what he wants?

Maybe TUCO could do his best to convince the Florida faithfull and the Florida AD that Frost is just another Phil Montgomery.

Boy I am sure glad our program does not have to deal with the meddling from coaches and players who were good a long time ago - Florida sounds like they have "doesnt know who is in charge" Disease

Also rumors on their board that the former AD Foley is involved as well and he, along with some boosters, want Charlie Strong.

If this is true and I am Scott Frost, I would not want the job if the AD was ready to hire someone else and the former AD wanted to higher yet another guy. Seems to be a dysfunctional situation to begin with.

Spurrier wants Frost because Kelly is 53 and he is thinking long-term, while Kelly would probably only stay at Florida a few years until the NFL comes calling again.

It sure is easy to make **** up

In otherwords after they make this hire... they will immediately be looking for a replacement got it..lol

Its amazing that they still could potentially sign a top 10 class this year through all this

XM84 has Spurrier on all the time and it's nice to listen to his thoughts.

They take quite a few callers and allow people to ask Spurrier questions.

Maybe one of us needs to call in and tell Spurrier to stay out of it and let Nebraska have Frost!

In checking out the Florida board - I ran across this little tidbit for what its worth

It's not Spurrier, Spurrier has no real authority. I have a very good source in the legal department at UF and the problem is Jeremy Foley. Foley is in the ear of several large boosters about Chip Kelly's character and they are listening. The contract has been drafted, Kelly is on Board and the only thing holding it up is UF's signature. And UF is being held up because of Foley. If Kelly ends up somewhere else, it's because of Jeremy Foley. My buddy is as close to this deal as anyone. That's all I can say without precisely identifying who he is and getting him in trouble. And believe me if I did, Foley would have his ***. Unfortunately Foley still has a lot of power at the school because he is tight with several Bull Gators.

Nothing to worry about then.

Strong or Kelly.

Florida's athletic department is just as dysfunctional/toxic as the NU athletic dept is right now. Outsiders will get very little time to turn things around. Just like NU.

I would guess most big-time athletic departments are like this and some are just better at keeping it quiet-ish than others? There's almost always going to be a titanic ego battle between the AD, prominent advisors and big-time boosters, no?

Any btw, just noticed your new sig pic. Good stuff there.

I would normally agree about NU - but after this humbling experience I cannot believe that almost everyone is on the same page right now

Rare instance where everyone is behind the same candidate. Even those that would prefer someone else in a vacuum are rooting for Frost because he's the only guy that can unify the entire fan base and will be given the maximum amount of time to right the ship. If he turns us down though, look out.

I read an article awhile back saying he tried the college approach at Philly and was operating on 4 running plays. It worked for a season until NFL defenses caught on and the planned accordingly. I knew he did that in college but had no idea he was doing so in the NFL. Some guys are just college coaches.

Isn’t Foley a big Charlie Strong supporter?

He's a paid consultant in the AD, and their most storied coach, former player, Heisman winner.

Actually he is basically just a fund raiser.

Foley doesn't have much leverage...after hiring Zook, Muschamp and Mac.

Not quite true. The deal with Kelly is all but done--should be announced this week. This is just taking a little bit of time while the contract is being worked out.

I had heard that due to Kelly's past NCAA issues that Florida had to get permission from the SEC brass to hire him. Is that true?

Yes, I believe they cleared UF to hire him earlier this week.

Yes that is true...he had a 18 month show cause after he left Oregon, that expired while he was in NFL, but SEC does have a rule about clearing a coach with a "questionable" back ground...

UF has already been cleared to hire Kelly by SEC.
