At least three federal officers in Portland may not recover their vision after earlier this week demonstrators, who have shown up in crowds of over 1,000 for more than 50 consecutive nights, shined lasers in their eyes

“When officers responded to put out these fires, glass bottles were thrown and lasers – which can cause permanent blindness – were shined in their eyes,” Cline said. “We have three officers who currently have eye injuries and they may not recover sight in those eyes from those laser attacks.”

Stop playing games with them and do what Reagan did! Grown people advocating for things like this should be ashamed.

Why would anyone downvote this?
Because they are also millennial snowflakes just like the ones from Portland in the article below who need their mothers to swoop in and protect them when they are looting, vandalizing and breaking the law. I have no problem with peaceful protests, but I have a very close friend in Portland and there is very little peaceful protest going on there.

You joke, but.. that's exactly how fascists want you to feel.

Take the most rare, horrible examples of people doing bad things and blast them into the headlines, make it seem like that's what's happening everywhere. You're not safe, those people are out of control!!

Then you give them more power. Willingly give up your rights. Gladly welcome the militarization of police.

All headline on both sides do this, all the stuff that started all of it was based on taking the exceptions to the rules and making them seem commonplace. The media is only representing the 10% at the far right/left right now and just confusing the heck out of the other 90%

So what's your suggested response by authorities when anarchists decide to capture and control an area of a city ?

if people in mississippi support these kinds of attacks on federal agents, which it appears they do (roughly 30 % in this thread thus far), this country, as we know, is OVER. i weep for the country my children and grandchildren will inherit.

Harming officers is wrong. I cant believe I feel compelled to state the obvious, but if i dont then morons post about how I'm defending people that hurt others.

Ok so moving on- how long does a laser pointer need to be in someone's eye for damage to occur? I have 0 idea, this is a genuine question.
I cant imagine people could get the laser into an eye from distance for more than a moment, like less than a second. The victim would obviously move one it was felt and at that point its trying to hit a tiny moving target...right?
Or is it much easier than im imagining?

Awful to hear people are being hurt.

Agree 100%. Unbelievable that we have so many here that support attacks on federal agents and police officers. Sad.

At this point, it’s probably easy to get your hands on some powerful laser pointers. Maybe reflecting through a riot shield face mask (if they had one) might amplify it.

I don't think they are a majority by any means. They are just louder, more unhinged and more willing to tear stuff apart. The chaos is the only way their minds can function properly. Personal accountability is something they've never been taught, so it's easier for them to attack and blame others than look in the mirror.

I hope soon. This board has gotten almost unbearable. It is sad when your escape from politics is invaded by politics.

There's the problem. To discourage a behavior, the response has to be greater than the behavior. The problem is the police currently have their hands tied since they're under such scrutiny. Until they can come down with a HEAVY hand, it's not going to stop. And some of this behavior is here locally as well. Was talking to a Madison County Deputy yesterday. Said he pulled over a kid who sped out of a sonic parking lot, nearly hitting 2 people. When he pulled him over, he said 5-6 teenagers were filming from a distance and all yelling "17ing pig, POS cop defund police....". These kids aren't protesting anything. They're simply pushing back on authority and rebelling - taking advantage of the fact that officers everywhere are having to exercise restraint like they never have. This deputy said he's NEVER encountered anything like this until about 3 months ago and now it's every day. You know, a "mouth" will always be a mouth until somebody closes it for him. Just like spanking or disciplining a child. Until it happens, they'll keep pushing the envelope.

Why would anyone downvote this?

Because it's ********. A laser would have to be super powerful to inflict eye or skin damage and the recipient would feel significant heat before damage occurred. You'd move if you felt it, rest assured.

And who the hell is Cline?

This is a new spin, based on Chinese authorities propaganda against protesters in Hong Kong, that has been circulated as a response from some (who think they are supporting law enforcement) after a protester got popped between the eye with a rubber bullet.

It's not tyrannical of the gov to protect federal property. It's illegal for people to burn down federal court houses. It's illegal to promote and carry out acts of insurrection. Insurrection definition, an act or instance of rising in revolt, rebellion, or resistance against civil authority or an established government.

The insurrection Act of 1807 is clear. It has been used many times in the history of the US in cases like these. In 1861, a new section was added allowing the federal government to use the National Guard and armed forces against the will of the state government in the case of "rebellion against the authority of the government of the United States,"

It was used against the KKK and other groups.

In fact, Kennedy used it during desegregation. He used it in the state of MS...... It was used in the 1992 riots in LA.

When organizations openly talk about collapsing the Federal Gov and speak of revolution while burning down federal property, they need to taken down.

Maybe they’re sick of being thrown into unmarked vans by unidentified CBP agents.

Downvote away, 17ers!

Awww bless their widdle hearts. They act like idiots and wonder why others treat them "bad". Perhaps if they acted like adults they wouldn't have to worry about federal agents hauling them off. What's the old saying? Play stupid games...stupid prizes...something like that.

So, in other words, the media and the majority the political left with their obsession with "white supremacy" and identity politics are fascists.
