I have seen more tweets or posts on Instagram that are blatantly wrong that they have to being lying on purpose or just stupid. These are by people I know who I consider to have above average intelligence. They are retweeting tweets from people with 100k plus followers.

“Countless numbers of unarmed black men are killed yearly by the police”

**** that’s not even remotely true.

How does defunding the police help black people in the long run? Do you think innocent black families are going to be better off in Minneapolis or Chicago in the neighborhoods with high violent crimes?

Do you think even half of the black students at LSU give a **** abt walking into the “Middleton” building?

Are riots and looting of black neighborhoods really helping Black people?

Hell has there been one single thing in this whole mess that is really going to help black people?

I’d argue a large majority of it is going to hurt them in the long run. That sickens me and I’m a CONSERVATIVE WHITE MALE in all of my white privilege.

I’ve managed over 200 black people in my career. Many of them were great people. Different than me but great. Many sucked.

Managed some ****** white people and some good ones too. They were closer to being like me than most of the black people. But they weren’t all like me.

Walk into a cafeteria at a large school and look around.

I bet you see black people sitting with black people.
White with whites.
So? Who cares?
You know what else you see? Dudes sitting with dudes and girls with girls.
Male teachers with male teachers. Female with female.
Band members sitting together.
Football players sitting together.
Baseball players sitting together.

People hang out with people they are like and have **** in common with.

Indian club.
Korean club.
Latin club.

That doesn’t make them racist does it?

We are less than one average American lifespan away from the Mississippi constitution mandating segregated schools. There are probably many people on this board older than Brown v. Board of Education. It isnt hard at all for me to imagine that the government hasn't corrected for centuries of behaviorial programming in that time span, especially on local levels. I'm not calling for reparations and I'm not calling anyone racist, and I take the concept of personal responsibility seriously, but I err on the side of the latter not being enough to overcome centuries of familial behaviors that began with the forced separation of families and kinsman and has endured into some of the most impoverished circumstances known to Americans. I can imagine a community literally enslaved and dehumanized for centuries to not overcome those well founded prejudices in three generations. That skepticism often runs deep in regard to almost all institutions.

(Why wouldn't it? Most of us are holding on to the same beliefs as our parents.)

Do I trust the government to fix the problem? No, but I trust Americans to come up with some kind of solution, and it probably needs to look like big money going into poor communities to establish learning institutions that they can trust and be proud of, among other things. I'm not smart enough to organize this and thankfully I'm not running for office. It has to happen at the local level and it has to be an integrated effort. Living in Mississippi my whole life has taught me that no philosophy or religion or ethics or science can mitigate racist ideology, ONLY INTEGRATION can do that. It's going to take a vision and capital and local and community leadership. Personal responsibility cannot be the only thing preached to a marginalized community, especially one that has never received the education it deserves.

Your point about the cafeteria in another post is important. I went to a school that was 50-50 white black. On the first day of school that is exactly what happened, but here is why integration is important. Over the course of the semester, kids sort themselves out. Some white kids like basketball. Some black kids like drama or debate team. Some Asian girls like white boys, or one in particular. Did that solve all racial tension? Obviously not, but by the end of the semester the cliques had changed into what is more natural than even our most superficial tendencies: humans sort themselves out by interest when given the resources and opportunity. That is why integration and access will I argue do more to fix the human heart problem than any other philosophy.

No doubt the history of slavery and civil rights is having a long term effect and causing many of the issues I stated.

But it has gotten better and significantly.
Slaves to share croppers to civil rights movement to a black man as president. A black nurse stuck me today with a needle and drew blood. I can’t imagine that happening 60 plus years ago.
Even Barack Obama said things had improved.

So the moral of that is TIME.

And yes integration can help for sure. It can’t be forced though.

And what we are seeing right now on tv and the **** forced on us by the media isn’t helping integration. It’s creating more segregation.

Have you read the story abt “walk with Shawn” in Nashville?

This **** is going too far. If your ancestors were here pre 1820, your *** can be canceled 6 ways from Sunday, and I say that as a person that had ancestors that migrated to the south (half of em) post civil war from Indiana. Have three great, great, great uncles that lost limbs and and subsequently died thanks to confederate cannon fire and a couple in grey that were in the artillery unit that probably fired the shots. Enough is enough...treat every human as a creation under God and have as much respect and dignity as you can muster for your fellow man regardless of skin color.

I have walkwshawn story loaded, will read tomorrow.

I agree things have obviously gotten better and agree the media has essentially lost its mission altogether (I mean hey, look who owns it, and I mean damn near every major media outlet in this country is owned by someone more concerned with a buck than reporting) but I tend to disagree re method of integration and no I have no idea how to implement it but it may need in some force (Ole Miss say: experto crede...) school choice? Vouchers so black kids can go to a school that gives them a chance at a solid education? The schools in Jackson and the Delta are still damn near segregated. Something has to change that. Perhaps with less students the underfunded schools could focus more on education than crowd control. As I said earlier, the education system is pretty much broken in this state except for rare exceptions, too many fundamental problems to get into here on a sports board.*****

I will say, 17 reading Shakespeare if we could use that time to teach kids more about government, careers, taxes, trades, wealth management, etc. substitute whatever you consider superfluous or at least less important than vital life skills for Shakespeare if you want.

Nice, constructive conversation between Jung and Paindonthurt. If more dialogue such as these takes place in public and private talk then we as a whole would have a much better idea of the struggles, the solutions, and the goals that really would go a long way in making this into a more perfect union and thus a more perfect world.

This is literally the problem.

It’s a hard convo to have Bc a white man can’t look at a black group and say these things. It’s racist.

But as Jung stated, if you integrate enough, then maybe the convo can be had. Or maybe it doesn’t have to be had any longer.

Who knows, but what we are seeing right now on tv isn’t helping at all.

This right here is some high-test casual racism, boys

It's funny how you POS liberals are terrified of the truth. Nothing he posted was racist. Do you not, at least a little bit, feel like a cowardly POS that all you can do is throw the word racist around and offer no valid points to back your BS? Put down the video games and actually learn a little about the topics you try to discuss so you quit looking like a clueless 17ing moron

The worst thing to happen to the South was the establishment of the white flight private school system. Had integration been allowed to happen and school districts just accepted it they would all be strong and education in this state would be robust. Instead we have School Boards run by elected officials who send their children to private schools and have no skin in the game, white populations who send their kids to private schools so they don't vote for bond initiatives necessary for public schools and we've gone back to de facto segregation. If it wasn't for sports in the last decade or so none of the private schools wouldn't have integrated at all.

The problem is when libs get their feelings hurt they have learned they can scream racism or any other kind of ism that suits their purpose at the time and then they are automatically declared the victim and whoever hurt their feelings is an evil evil person and must be dealt with accordingly. The concept of personal responsibility in this country has been taken out back behind the barn and had two put behind the ear.

This is the problem though. No one really wants to get to the root of the problem. Then once they actually have a good statement/thesis, no one wants to ask WHY.

In simplistic terms, it’s not abt racism. It’s abt the socioeconomic standing of black people as a group.

When asked why most people scream racism.

YOU CANT FIX RACISM. Some people are racist and some aren’t. Black, white, Hispanic, asian, etc.

Why are blacks committing more crimes than any other race in America? Bc the Majority are low income/poverty level.
Why are blacks mostly lower income? 2 things can be fixed by black people with very little help and even with systemic racism.

1. Don’t have children early and when you do make sure you are married. This is pretty much a statistical fact.

2. Graduate high school.

Why isn’t everyone starting with the low hanging fruit? The easy ****?

BC ITS NOT ABT HELPING BLACK PEOPLE.

A child that grows up without his/her father around . . . this is the root cause of many problems.

Fix this and many problems will be greatly reduced.

A loving/caring/supporting father makes all the difference in a child's life.

I can't imagine where I'd be if I had grown up without my father around.

But . . . I'm not sure how to fix the problem of absentee fathers. I haven't spent much time thinking about that.

Agree.

All of my siblings currently live in central Mississippi. They are white, like me. None of their kids went/go to public schools.

I'm not sure how this thread made it so long without anyone mentioning that the "Tigers" of LSU Tigers are named after Confederate 9th Louisiana Infantry "Lee's Fighting Tigers".

Dorn, I'd like to hear an explanation of how the above post is "high-test casual racism."

Others have asked for an explanation too.

Are you going to explain it?

Been telling those who will listen that there's a sliver of America who believes in generational punishment. These are the ones who claim to be tolerant, but the ones they are closest aligned to are dictatorships that accept only one view point.

These crazy lunatics are on par with North Korean leadership. No exaggeration. Prove me wrong.

If you’re gonna lob the “racist” grenade at least point out the “racist” part, casual or otherwise

It's not a grenade to lob; it's a factual description. It has long been a racist trope to suggest Black people are somehow equally culpable in their treatment in America.

I saw a Twitter post yesterday that had a picture of the Stephen D. Lee statue on the drill field and a picture of him in his Confederate uniform saying it was time to take it down.

That line at the end of the article "they won't feel safe in that building", could someone explain that to me please?

Troy Middleton wasn't some old Confederate General. He was a hard-charging General in World War II who convinced Patton to veer north 90 miles and rescue Bastogne.
http://87thinfantrydivision.com/mitch-kaidy/the-general-that-history-forgot-and-one-that-popular-lore-created

After the war, he was the popular President of LSU, and was on the committee to help integrate not only LSU, but the State of Louisiana.

Middleton was no Ross Barnett.

Yeah. I don't see the issue with Middleton.

But we should definitely take Ross Barnett's name off the Rez.

More due to him being a huge ******* and corrupt , but if him also being a known massive racist gets it done. I'm fine with that as well.

I get real tired of the victim card. I know colleges offer way more opportunities to any minority. I had several classmates, black, asian and hispanic that got way more scholarships than i received with a much lower ACT and GPA score.

I truly do not understand the white privilege. None of my living relatives have had slaves and we have all busted our *** and worked all of our lives to provide for our families.

I would truly love to listen and i am open to understanding the other side. These name changes just comes off as trying to be a victim. This country offers a lot of opportunities for everyone who wants it.

I agree, that flags (i.e. symbols) are symbolic, however, symbolic things can create very strong emotions through connotation and understanding the real meaning behind the symbol. I submit to you an iconic symbolic gesture that told a story, and to this day, engages emotions in a substantial way.

Hey look, someone else trying to twist the narrative and blame black people.

More "whataboutism" trying to misdirect away from the topic at hand. Yes, everything you mentioned are actual problems, but you're completely avoiding the bigger picture.

This isn't a "bootstraps" issue where inner city black communities need to suddenly, through sheer force of will, surpass their education options and suddenly have more money and opportunity to change their situation for the better.

This is about systemic racism, and this country's legacy of public policy that created the cycle of poverty and poor education in black communities, and the eagerness at which we lock them up.

As a parent, I will send my kids to the best school I can afford, no matter if it is public or private. As a grandparent, I will do the same for my grandkids. I'll be damned if I will send my kids to a failing ******, violent, drug infested dump so they can have their lives destroyed by a lack of a half way decent education just to satisfy a bunch of woke liberal pieces of ****. If that offends you, I just really don't care.

I went to a private school. It was built in the late 60s early 70s Bc of integration.

My private school wasn’t a top notch educational system.

BUT parents paid significant money to send their kids their so they had a very vested interest into what was going on at school and in their kids lives.

If you acted like a moron at school, you got your *** beat and maybe suspended. YOU KNOW WHAT? Wasn’t a bunch of moron acting going on Bc there were consequences.

If you allow discipline in schools and make it to where parents have to be vested, then maybe public schools as a whole will get better.

Until then people who care (white and black) will find a better option.

That’s probably a good way of fixing the school issue in our country. HOW DO SEGREGATE THOSE WHO CARE AND DONT CARE?

Learn to reply correctly and we can talk.
You have no interest in real "talk". You have not even replied to the your first assertion that PineGroveBully was somehow racist. Oh wait, you replied, but with an insult. You didn't explain anything, like they asked. I doubt you will.

You aren't reasonable. JungRebel is. Your type is the absolute worst kind. You just like to sow discord and insult, and I don't understand why. Do you realize that if the police are not funded, YOU are also less safe? That goes for many other political hot topics too.
