A while back there was a thread on how much did you lose in the Wuhan Market Crash of 2020. The market has rallied since then so it seems like a good time to check the Pack's status as of close of business this past Friday. My measure in mid-March was that my investments were down 15.4 % after the crash. My portfolio was a mix of stocks, mutuals, ETFs and cash so I was able to avoid a full-on hit in the market. As of Friday, I am still down 3.9% and unless the riots and China crashes the market again, I hope to break even sometime in June - July. How's everybody else doing??

Post script: This is not a racist or political post. **

I'm still down about 6% from the peak in early March. At its lowest point I was down about 14%.

I haven't changed any of the investments in the portfolio.

I'm also down 3.9% exactly which at least seems like a decent number considering that the Dow is still down 13% and the S&P is down 6.7%.

For my day trading account, I'm actually up about .5%, but that's mainly because I dumped some cash into it in mid to late March right when things were hitting the bottom. I don't normally get this lucky, but I've had some nice wins with INO, COP, and IBUY during the last couple months. I don't have a ton of money in that account, so it's nothing to get excited about, but it is at least nice to see things starting to level out. Now I guess we'll have to keep our fingers crossed that these trends continue

Down 4.4% for the quarter on 401k. Fortunately ESOP was up quite a bit this year. Hopefully retirement is still in sight in a couple of years.

Was down 15.5% at lowest and now only down 3%.

Of course this is from an amazing high before the Chinese General Sun Tzu unleashed the Wuhun virus. Sly devil.....

Not trying to pay too much attention

I'm 37. Staying well diversified and letting dollar cost averaging play out. I'm too busy to keep up with investing strategy to take advantage of these ups and downs without being in a risky speculative position. If I were closer to retirement, I'd probably try to be more researched and take advantage of certain positions. There are some good threads here that I enjoy but over my head. I hope they continue if folks try to keep it apolitical and matter of fact. But if they can't be allowed - there's always sports gambling...

I feel like the investment threads we have are not crossing any lines. We argue about fundamental vs technical trends or if the market is going up or pulling back. Honestly, I feel like more minds are actually changed in those threads than any others. It's the closest thing to sports we have had... Even a little **** talking. Grove ******* just hiked his leg on our pylon after getting a 15% return in May in our fantasy investment game.

I hope investment threads hangs around OT after sports start back. Living out of state I might as well lurk when it comes to State sports as I have no insights. I do like contributing to some of the other topics though. And now that Spectre is gone, nobody gets me riled up.

Just hoping they remain that way. I think most of the folks that like to interject their $0.02 are scared off bc the threads get pretty technical. I enjoy picking up some knowledge from them - especially yours.

I was a commodities trader and learned how to read charts 15 years ago. It works great for 5 hours to 5 days... I'm as full of **** as anyone else when it comes to the long-term market. Never feel intimidated. Any rube could have seen what would come of Amazon 5 years ago, but I have never owned a single share.

I just like to post the weekly prediction when I get up Monday morning. It helps me do my research. As of today I am 90% cash in my brokerage accounts. The pullback is coming. I will post my charts in the AM.

Listen to others for stock picks, I am just the trend guy. As of right now...we have civil unrest, trade war, 25% unemployment, and million other risks. As a former member of the insiders in the commodities world, I have a feeling that the Wall Street boys are setting up retail investors to take a bath when the rug gets ripped out.

I hope the housing market rebounds quick. Was getting ready to sell when all this **** started in March. My house value has dropped a little over 10% since.

Currently my best option is renting my current house until the market turns around. That opens up a whole new set of headaches.

I'm down around 3% from my high. Will probably stay that way for awhile as I have very little left in stocks. I'm old tho.....if I were young I would still have a decent chunk in stocks.

My return is real time ytd right at +7%. My decline peak to trough was -23.8%.

My initial peak was on 2/18/20. I bottomed 3/20/20. I made it back to all time highs in my account on 4/27/20.

If you want to know how YOU (the investor) is actually doing and take into account your timing and cash flows (dividends, funding the account, etc) look for what's called "Time-Weighted Return." That'll give you your actual performance. Dividends count as a % gain and deposits/withdrawals do not effect the % figure.

Maybe I need to get on to my advisor........

I was down 28.9% from peak numbers in February to the floor in late March. I've climbed back but am still down 9% from the highs.

Should be said, I'm early 30's and was HEAVY in equities with little to no cash or bonds.

Housing market is an interesting one because there are areas where homes are going into bidding wars due to a lack of inventory, but I just have this feeling that we haven’t really seen the impact yet.

I have a lot of interest in property around Heber and downtown Memphis, but I’m definitely taking a wait and see approach at the moment

Sounds like you're tied very close to the S&P.

My advice: Have zero bonds. Have a little cash though (No more than 5% cash). If you're aggressive, be 95% equities. No need for ANY bonds or "balanced" or "income" funds. Invest for growth.

You're getting market returns pretty much. You'd be doing better if you re-balanced when the market was down big. Make sure you're doing that, otherwise I'd say you're right on track.

The Dow Jones actually got down 38.4% at it's low.

I was down about 25% in my 401k. As of today I’ve recouped my losses. I have your standard vanguard account that i pay vanguard $5 a month to manage seeing that I have no idea what I’m doing. It’s paid off wonderfully and almost doubled my balance. Now my employer has stopped matching contributions, I’m on furlough so no money is being put into it. Just occurred to me that I could put some of my own money into it. Should I? Or wait? Again, I have no idea what I’m doing.

My brokerage account is up about 10% from the February highs. Mostly due to getting a lot out after that first week of losses, putting some into the pandemic stocks, and trading leveraged ETFs on some of those wild days in early March.

Plow everything into UPRO and you'll be up again in no time.

mine has recovered as well as i could expect

my 401k is up 5.27% YTD....better than nothing....last year's total was 29% growth, mainly due to company stock i put 30% into...

My Etrade account i opened up during the pandemic with some of my savings is up 16.47% as of today....only had it open for 4 weeks now....put money in 6 blue blood stocks that were way down that were no brainers....my only regret is not having any more to pump into them...(would also be much higher if hadn't panicked on Boeing....biggest 17'up of my amateur trading career)

I have the same Bitcoin I've had for 2 years now. I bought in around $8k after the huge crash and it's really gone no where. I just bought some to hold forever so I don't feel stupid just in case it does go to $1mil a coin.

Interested to see stateuofms's take on this comment. It seems reasonable to me, but I don't pretend to understand this stuff

Haha you're right: No one who owned the S&P 500 this year is claiming an opportunity cost of -40% relative to bitcoin.

Is there an actual bitcoin cheer-leading school? Maybe they coach people up to create message board logins all over and just get alerted to post when the term bitcoin pops up?

Cheerleading school? That's ridiculous. I'm a bot.
Real question: How did TheStateUofMS stay even on bitcoin for the last two years but you claim bitcoin had double digit returns just in Q12020? Does TheStateUofMS need a better bitcoin broker? My math skills are rusty.

Because BTC was lower on 1/1/20 than it was two years ago?

I've almost climbed back green in my side-trading account. My "gambling" account. I made a few bad options trades or else I'd probably up a bit right now YTD.

If Wagstaff bought it on 1/1/2020 and that was the case, then yes, he could brag about making that return for that period. Either way he's touting it as some great investment when in fact it has been basically flat for 2 years.

I don't really care enough about bitcoin to research. What is important to me is that people understand that anyone hawking any security in a vacuum is not helpful. If you don't know the investor, know the purpose of the funds they are investing and know their risk tolerance, you can't begin to give good advice.

Depending on when you bought you could be up, down, or even, but everyone who bought on 11/26/2017 or earlier is up.
