Mine is a random moment that was not televised

Several years back they had a hotdog giveaway, that a whole row in the student section won. The guy at the end of the row stared expressionlessly into the jumbotron camera and pushed his hot-dog wiener up, up, up, and then it toppled out of the bun.

Funniest **** I've ever seen.

Mine is calling the Hogs in front of their section from the field after beating Arkansas in 98 to clinch the West while the goalposts were coming down.

As far as random experiences on campus, the first time I met Jerry Rice in the Tin Gym was a big deal for me.

Dinner with Dan Mullen in 2011. It was the MSU Summer Extravaganza and our table had a spare chair next to the end of the food line. Mullen went through the line, looked at us and asked if this seat was taken. It was right after we signed a multi year deal with Mississippi Southern. I remember him saying “I look forward to beating Southern Mississippi and Northern Mississippi in the same year.”

Can't say it's my favorite, but it just came to me. I'm not sure what year, maybe his senior year, but Tang Hamilton was fouled and went to the FT line. The ref must have said he had to tuck his shirt in, because he gave the ball back to the ref, pulled his shorts all the way to the ground exposing his underwear, then pulled them back up to get his shirt tucked in.

I went to the road dawgs tour right after Mullen was named head coach - they came to whispering woods in Olive Branch. I met Dan and I remember he was wearing a cheap maroon blazer and just looked socially awkward. He was fidgety and nervous and looked at the floor a lot when he talked to folks. Coming off the Croom error, I was really worried about it at the time.

I think I’ve mentioned this before but seeing Ricky Joe Redd punching Alabama 3b Chris Snelley between innings was pretty amazing to 16 year old me. My reaction was somewhere between beavis and butthead when a Corrosion of Conformity video comes on, and Sean William Scott’s when Will Farrell got shot with the tranquilizer dart.

Speaking of The Fant suspension, I was in the Jackson airport about to start the first flight in my trip to Eugene, when I got word that I was going to the game but Fant wasn’t. That was a sinking feeling.

Listening to an obese, jersey wearing, damn yankee Michigan fan for 2 days at our hotel in Jacksonville talk about the Big 10, the Michigan tradition, and how great they were and how Denard Robinson was going to run all over us whether he tied his shoes or not.

Then, pulling back into the hotel after game just as obese Michigan fan w/out his jersey is about to pull out of the hotel parking lot carrying his *** and his whole obese family back to Michigan and me blocking him in his parking place with my car and everybody in our car ringing the hell out of our cowbells while he couldn't do anything but sit and stare at us. Will never forget the look on his face as he sat staring at me not able to do anything.

I had that happen to me. Except it was the Croominator. Went and got my food and came back and he was sitting next to me. "Come on in young fella". Then got up and talked about how he studied winning or something like that. I think it was before 2007.

It's not really MSU or really a favorite but it happened here, but it was one of the strangest things I ever saw on the court. Back either under Richard Williams or very early during the Stansbury years, one of the smaller Tennessee schools came into the Hump. I think it was Tennessee Tech. One of their players got into an altercation on the court with one of ours. It was pretty heated and the Tech guy was going nuts. The coach from Tech came out of the court to try to calm his guy down and the player punched him in the face, almost decked him. The crowd sort of gasped. He had already been ejected and it took the cops to get him off the floor. Two of them escorted him to the locker room. Nobody from Tech would come near him. My old coach Dad said that he wouldn't have let the guy back on the bus after the game.

Another one from basketball, this time from the Bob Boyd years, Jeff Malone's last year to be exact. I was a student. We were up by one over UGA they were inbounding the ball under their goal with about three seconds left. The refs called a foul under the goal on UGA. Hugh Durham, UGA's coach went absolutely insane. He came storming off the bench and got in the ref's face. Tech #1. He kept at it for at least 3-4 minutes, eventually got Tech #2. Then he spun on his heal and marched all the way down to the other end of the court to get in the other ref's (only two refs back then) face, he received Tech #3 as soon as he opened his mouth. His assistants finally got him off the court. Malone went to the line to shoot 8 free throws. He made seven and we won by eight. 7 points in 3 seconds after UGA had the ball under their on goal.

MSU baseball game in the old stadium. Looked up and here comes Jerry Clower headed into the stands. Came up sat down and hung out for a few innings.

Another is Don Knotts doing a Union lecture series appearance. Very informal, after doing a few skits he walked into the audience pulled up a chair and just shot the breeze & answered questions for a while.

I used to take Crooms order at the Veranda on wing night. He was the only one allowed takeout with the wing special.

He would tell me “Jeri gonna chew my *** for this...but let’s do two dozen buffalo and one dozen Jamaican Jerk” “Oh and do me 1 dozen dry...I can eat them otw home”

Every time I handled his order, I would sound like a kid candying, in said store...I would follow him all out in the parking lot....”no problem, coach! I put your ranch in our big *** 44 Oz to go cup“ “heres ya some extra napkins for your bib setup on the ride home”.....as he pimp limped out of sight

Anthony Johnson’s pick six from our own endzone against Bama is hard to top, but so is Mo hitting the floater to knock off UCONN. Dak with “the run” in Death Valley may top them all.

I'm not sure what game it was, but last year in the north east side of the student section near the end of the third quarter they started stacking a red solo cup ladder. They kept finding red solo cups and stacking them, they ran out of cups around them. The Band members started throwing cups over to them, near the end of the four quarter they had a red solo cup stacked latter from the bottom of the student section to the top. They had to have several students along the way supporting the stacked cups. It became more exciting than the game to see if they could keep it together and make it to the top. I believe it even made it on the tv during the 4th quarter. Yea we made the right move getting read of Moorhead, when stacking cup become more exciting than the game.

Wednesday, February 7, 1990. UT visits the Hump. With the game hanging in the balance in the final minute, a loose ball goes out of bounds near mid-court on the student section side (opposite the scorer's table). The call could have gone either way, but the official awards the ball to Tennessee. The crowd is furious. Vols call timeout. During the timeout, the official who made the call is standing at the point where UT would inbound the ball, holding the ball under his arm. Pep band starts playing "Hail State (Go State)." On the first "Go State! Go State!" a group of students stand and point at him and substitute "You suck! You suck!" for the regular chant. By the last set, most of the arena was pointing at the man in stripes chanting, "You suck! You suck!" instead of "Go State!" Impressive, unrehearsed coordination of a crowd.

Footnote: UT won 84-83.

Must add*

I was working the patio at the Veranda one Saturday, spring time. I see a big, ugly, spinner spoke style rimmed Cadillacish ride come bumping into the parking lot....out steps Travis Outlaw. He was just into his NBA career at this point...but there had been a recent game where he went like 1-9 at the line.....where he cost the blazers a game.... he goes in, gets his togo order, heads out the front door and towards his ride.....he had almost made it in and out without 1 person talking to him...until, and I’m sure it came from the late Pickles table, “Yo Travis....Free Throws are Free”

The outside table erupted with laughter and he put his food in his car and came over and shot the **** for 10 or so minutes. He was a good sport and an awesome fella, if you ever get a chance to meet him. Would have been an amazing bulldawg

Can y’all imagine having Travis from 2003-2005?!

Or the time they had the most interesting freshman in the world commercial on the jumbotron. He said "I don't always drink, but when I do ill be 21" , the stadium erupted in boos.
