... who was the best athlete that you actually played against in a game?

Did you ever have to tackle or guard or hit or block or pitch to him?

How did it go?

Bryant Mix... Water Valley.. he had a full beard in 9th grade and windmill dunked on us the first time down the court after tip off. In football we would call 3 plays in the huddle and run the one at the line that took the ball farthest from where he was.. that went on for 4 years.

Pitched against Brian Cole/Meridian. People missed out on the talent he had. Was going to be a star in MLB.

Didn’t play against Mix but I remember him at Northwest. That Ranger team was loaded.

Anthony Williams Forest hill high school. Best raw athlete hands down I’ve ever seen. Baseball, football, and track. He’s just so happens to be Anthony Dixon’s Dad. As a side note Boobies mom was the best female athlete I’ve ever seen as well. Good people too

Jay Powell struck me out when I was in 9th grade and he was a senior. I also got my first career hit off of Neal Lamb, who pitched for Alabama.

Guarded Chris Jackson in 9th grade basketball. He was an eighth grader and dunked on me. Played with Brett Favre in Miss All Star football game. Drank a few beers with him too. Batted off Booby Reed, who threw gas at Long Beach and MSU. Couldn’t catch up. Best DB I played against was James Green from Meridian High. Total headhunter. He signed with MC but not sure how he panned out. Also played against Terrell Buckley. Had a decent game against him, but that was before he became great.

I grew up in Tampa, Florida. I played against several guys who ended up playing in MLB. Billy Butler, Andrew McCutchen, Alex Avila, Wade Davis, Josh Donaldson (only in a summer league), Jon jay, JD Martinez, Jacob deGrom (was not even really a pitcher in high school), Matt LaPorta.

The best pitcher was definitely Wade Davis. Hitters would be a tie between McCutchen and Butler.

Either Pig Prather (Faulkner) or LP Spence (Corinth). Spence was unbelieve before his injury in prep school.

Robert Woodard I @ Houlka - we beat them @ Houlka in 84 when I was a senior in high school. He was in the 8th grade & scored 34. He was a great high school 4 but just wasn't tall enough to play there in Division 1. I think Houlka was 1A back then & we were 3A

I tried to check Jeff Malone for a quarter in a Bob Boyd Basketball camp all-star game. I think it was the summer before his senior year at MSU. Needless to say, that did not go real well for WGD.

All Pro Antonio Cromartie.

Thankfully, when my team got smoked by him in the playoffs, I was a freshman who had just gotten moved up to Varsity at the end of the JV season so I didn't see the field much that game.

I don’t think deGrom started pitching until his last year at a Stetson. Was a shortstop before that.

Grew up Playing sports in Arkansas.

When up against (Rb) De’Angelo Williams of Wynne Arkansas. The mofo was all of 5’8-5’9 with tree trunks for legs. Tackled that bastard once. Let’s just say he was out by halftime. State playoffs the man had over 1200 yard rushing. Unreal in High school.

Also played against (Wr) Chris Baker of Osceola Ar that went on to play of U of A! He was the second best player I played against in high school. Didn’t throw it much but he had 2 99 yard runs on us. Needless to say he was done by half time as well.

Eric Moulds played on the George County team with my son. Friday nights became "must see tv" down here. Kickoffs, punts and anytime he touched the ball everybody on the George County side of the field stood up to watch the fireworks. I think he scored touchdowns the first 7 times he touched the ball. In addition to all the offensive touchdowns he scored. he would score just about as many playing defense.

He would known as one of the best receivers of all time if he hadn't spent most of his career in Buffalo.

Struck out on 4 pitches against Van Johnson. For the record, I was happy about fouling one off. He threw a 1 hitter against us with the one hit a chopper that a guy beat out for an infield hit.

He ended up as one of the better closers at State and I think had the most saves in a season at one time.

Nakia Greer was a man-child back in the day.

That he was. I had the pleasure of blocking him on kick return in 8th grade. Blocking was a bad word. As I was rolling backwards down the field I tried to get tangled up in his feet to slow him down.

Cassius Ware was another man amongst boys. Only played him once in football. The first time he touched the ball everyone on defense hit him at least twice as he rolled, and drug our team 80 yards downfield for a td. He also hit the only home run I gave up in high school. Not sure if that ball has landed yet. As if that wasn’t enough I took tennis in college. I’d never picked up a racket at this point. He was one of the first people I played. I didn’t return many of his serves.

Played in the same baseball tournament in St Louis with Todd Helton. Our teams never met though.

I picked off Sleepy Robinson in a spring game. I watched a Pete Young HR sail over my head in LF. And I got dunked on by Cameron Burns.

Pete Young (McComb) was throwing a no-hitter against us in the 5th inning. My dubmass decided to lay down a bunt and beat it out. I didn't have a clue that it was a sin to break up a no no with a bunt single. My coach looked like I had shot someone. He said, "For your safety, I'm pinch hitting for you if your spot comes back up!"

Seth was All-MPSA in football, basketball, baseball, and soccer. Think he played in all four all-star games. Was coaching when he was in HS and saw him get a steal at midcourt and did a reverse monster dunk in state championship game vs. JA at prep.

Yeah, I think you’re right. Crazy to think about that and know that he’s one of the best pitchers in the world right now.

Didn't compete directly against him, but the most accomplished athlete was Calvin Smith from Sumner Hill. Ran in south state and state track meets with him. Fastest human i ever observed personally. Incredible how he ran the curve in the 220yd dash.

As far as played against, Jackie Moffett from Taylorsville (USM).

Often overlooked but Tyler Peterson was a damn good QB at Louisville. Robbie Staten wrecked people at Pearl, was the fullback and middle linebacker.

Akili King at St Andrews. I was on the field when he scored a touchdown that looked like that quarter eating run by Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl. I think I was one of the few players that only missed one tackle on that run.
