Myself and others have been lectured past couple of days about how JoMo is gone, let it go, leave him alone, blah blah. LumpyChucklelips started a dam lake thread and made one little dig at Joe's team lake trip, and got roasted. I don't understand why Joe Moorhead is suddenly exempt from ridicule on this board. Because of Joe, 2-1/2 weeks ago this board was in either deep depression mode or full torches/pitchforks frenzy, and now you get blasted for making digs at the man, like he's been suddenly pardoned from all past dumbassery. Yes he's gone, and State has a new coach who is a very big deal; but lest we forget, this wound is still very fresh and long term consequences from Joe on the football program are still to be determined. Interestingly, the double standard must have been enacted since we still regularly roast former and current coaches, players and administration(Fourcade, Croom, Renardo, Strickland, Brewer, Ray, Polk, Cann, Freeze, Templeton, Cohen, Mullen, etc); some of it is good fun, but often you can still sense the deep resentment against these men in some posters comments. Whether or not I personally agree with them, I'm cool with that.

But Jugghead is off limits? 17 that. Either we can make fun of all idiocy or none of it.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but if one poster is a jilted little ***** for poking fun at some obviously dumb decisions, then we're all jilted little hypocritical bitches.

If Peeping Croom, Intense Bastard, Templeton Troughs, Relardo Sidney, Jeezus Freezus, and Dog Brewer are forever in the SPS lexicon, some people need to put on their big boy pull ups about Joe Moorhead because he's gonna be in it, too.

While I hold no ill will against the guy, I feel his poor offensive decisions and stubbornness are fair game for ridicule and scorn.

My general take is that it's perfectly fine to be frustrated by his coaching decisions and how the team was (or wasn't) prepared for games. To me, that sort of performance-based criticism is fair game (even though I don't really see the point of it any more since he's gone now).

What I don't personally get on board with are the childish insults, nicknames and what I perceive to be anger towards him.

I feel the same way about Croom, for what it's worth. Both Moorhead and Croom are fine men and seemingly good people. They just weren't good fits for our football program, and I put more of the blame for that on the people who hired them. I genuinely believe they were doing the best they could - it just obviously wasn't good enough. It happens in every single industry around the world.

We've obviously since moved on. I find it weird when posters on this board can't move on as well.

I don’t get it

He tried, he failed, got fired. I’m not sure what else people want from him. Why kick a person when they’re down, he knows he failed. no need to rub his nose in it.

People try difficult tasks all the time in life. Lots of times you fail. You learn more from failure than success. I think more of a person who try’s something hard and fails, than someone who is too scared to risk failure.

Nothing against you, just an opinion on original topic.

Meh. We've had coaches who struggled but were held in high regard since moving on. I happen to think Croom and Moorhead are good men, too. The difference with those guys is that they went out of the way to be overly sensitive and insult the fan base. Croom talked down to us and told us we were blind if we couldn't see the improvement while we were losing to Maine, then he ran us down and blamed everyone but himself after the fact. Moorhead told us to pound sand and kick rocks and we'd have to drag his yankee *** out of here. Fans tend to not forget things like that. The reasons they are immortalized in fan base memory and message board lexicons have more to do with how they treated the fans when they were here than what they did on the field.

I say ridicule him if you want. Everyone else can go 17 themselves if they don’t like it. I just wanted his *** fired and gone. I don’t feel the need to bash him anymore but I’m not gonna lecture anyone on why they shouldn’t.

I think mainly its the Moorhead discussion fatigue more than “he’s a good man and we need to leave him alone!”. To me it is anyways.

The board has been damn near unreadable for the better part of 16-18 months due to both the supporters and detractors of Moorhead constantly airing their grievances. Every take on both sides got brought up 1000 times. Hell, its so bad that even the take that “everything has been said 1000 times” has itself been said 1000 times. We finally got an opportunity to move onward and upward, and you still have people bringing up old ****.

Yes, he wasn’t a good head coach or program manager. No, he didn’t completely nuke the program, and we acted quick enough to where we are not off track at all from where we should be in the W-L department or the public perception department over the long term. We got two good recruiting classes out of the deal if nothing else, and now a rock solid, proven head coach running things. There’s no need to go back to that message board topic pit of despair at any point over the next several months at minimum, yet you still have people who can’t help themselves.

Dang, who is roasting someone over a lake trip reference (although technically I thought it was a water park trip)? I agree that's pretty ridiculous and very Genespagish.

What else are we supposed to talk about? Mole crickets and Noxapater TV listings? This is a sports message board. It is a forum that was literally created in response to other forums not allowing free thought on the state of our athletic programs. I hope that never changes, though some come here to try and change it.

People bitching and complaining about what is discussed and how it's discussed on this board need to take five minutes to read up on the history, lexicon, and rules of this forum.

Sorry, but there were a lot of areas of the program that Moorhead didn't seem to try very hard in. Maybe he had no idea how to run a program with discipline, accountability, work ethic and toughness. But if he did he sure didn't try very hard.

I understand the history quite well. Been reading and posting since 2004. And many of the others “bitching and complaining” I also recognize from that same time period long ago. Nobody should be censored, just understand that at a certain point the horse has been beaten.

Also, it’s basically the same thing Rupert got banned for (constantly coming to the rescue of Moorhead), just the opposite side of the argument. So it’s not like you can say there is no history of people being escorted off this board for continuously bringing up tired arguments / takes, in spite of the history on why it was founded.

As far as what else to talk about, I dunno. We just hired a new football coach who has probably the most interesting personality in college football history? His staff choices? Baseball weekend rotation? How many yards will we throw for next fall? Hell, even talk about all the areas Leach will upgrade things from Moorhead. I personally just enjoy discussing new / different topics as opposed to tired, recycled takes. That’s why I block anyone on facebook who fills my feed with political BS.

Rupert didn't get banned for defending Moorhead or bringing up tired arguments. If SPS banned people for that, there wouldn't be a SPS board.

Because he kicked us when we were down, and rubbed our noses in his bs. I'm not gonna start threads about how terrible the guy was, but if someone else wants to, I won't bash them for it. I agree with Drebin, the newbies def need to learn the history of this board.

More than that why waste your time on something that is gone.
It’s in the past.
Learn from the past? Ok but running it into the ground is tiresome (many other topics on this board this way too) and a huge waste of time for everyone.

The criticism of Moorhead will die off organically with the passing of time. Pulling Gene Page crap and telling ppl to get over the anger is very sheep-like. SPS was formed in April of 2003 bc of ppl bitching on GP about JWS' 2002 team. I remember Mutt the Hoople getting trashed by ppl like Pong Dawg "his negativity is bringing down the program" Sounds so familar w/this season. Ppl will forget Moorhead but allow ppl to get it out of their systems

Essentially being a spam bot.

Ok, I mean was he really a spam bot or was he just repeatedly exercising his “free thought” about MSU sports in a manner that just pissed everybody off? How is the judgment made to distinguish those two things? Not saying I disagree with his banning at all, but there’s an obvious element of subjectivity here and obviously a point of no return for folks who beat the dead horse too much. I don’t think anyone in the past few days with the anti-Moorhead stuff has come close to that level of annoyance, but that doesn’t mean it can’t get to that point if any one particular poster decides to turn whatever viewpoint they have into a crusade. So bringing up the “reason the board was founded” argument is pointless, seeing as how there have been precedents set with Rupert and others. This place has evolved quite a bit since 2003, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Pointing out that some of you guys only have the attitude towards Moorhead that you do because you have really thin skin isn't quite the same thing as "bitching about bitching." I'm a fan who wasn't happy about his play-calling either, so he basically told me to kick sand or whatever, too. The difference is that I didn't really care because I'm not a 12-year old girl who gets their feelings hurt easily. And I'm also quite willing to let the past be the past.

its not that anyone hates him or has their feelings hurt, but he doesnt get a pass on aspects that hurt our program, because its our program, not his. its a message board and there is no "high road" to be taken. if we are openly and honestly discussing a previous coach, i see no problem talking about legitimate negative aspects. its not intellectually honest to just focus on the few bright spots of the moorhead tenure. its not hurting him in any way to talk about how he hurt our program, although i can appreciate those that want to talk about something else.

First of all, let me say that I didn't and still don't dislike Joe Moorhead. I think he is a really good man. I don't think he was a really good head football coach. Having said that....

I thought it was pretty funny that I was called a "jilted little *****" for the comment that I made. For those that didn't see it, I had linked an editorial from the SDN on the current situation at Oktibbeha county lake as a follow up to a thread from the day before. I also mentioned that I had read a few articles about the lake and Stans ties to it since he was mentioned in the earlier thread. One of the things that I learned was that a water park had been built out there, but was no longer in operation. It just triggered my memory of JoMo taking the team to a water park in the middle of preseason camp (when obviously he should have been working on the offense)....was that another dig? So, I simply said that it's too bad that the water park was closed and that JoMo could have taken the team there instead of having to leave town for one. I mean if I really wanted to dog JoMo I hope I could do better than that, but this obviously set off a few "jilted little bitches" and hurt their feelings. So they had their say and tried to make me feel bad for my comments I guess.

By the way, if you look up the word jilted in the dictionary, it states..."suddenly rejected or abandoned".

I'll quote myself in my reply to the guy who called me a jilted little *****...."Son, no one who wanted his Yankee *** drug out of here was jilted, I can assure you".

Just going by the definition of the word, I don't think any of the folks who wanted JoMo gone were suddenly rejected or abandoned. Now the folks who wanted him to stay....that's another story.

I'm not gonna go out of my way to hammer the guy but if anyone is gonna defend him they might want to do their homework. He did an absolutely pitiful job and left here a rich man.

^^This is what ticks me off. It's essentially the same gripe a lot of people still hold against Croom. He did a lazy, underwhelming job, left with a pile of money, and on top of that copped an attitude toward the fans for ridicule.

I hold no ill will against either man; they both come off as decent, kind people, so long as you don't challenge their decision making. I just think it's strange that many of us are still "jilted" when the Croom administration continues to be brought up over a decade later, meanwhile "Joe is old news and we should drop it." In my humble opinion, Joe did a worse job, in a shorter period of time, with vastly better talent.

And I think this is the key point. Nobody is going out of their way that I can see. But if the subject comes up, people have the right to express themselves about it. There's a lot of stuff that went on under his watch that open him up to fair criticism.

Croom was stubborn and loyal to a fault to his staff. He wasn't lazy.
Jo Mo knew he was in over his head and suffered from coaching paranoia. So he acted like a stubborn ***. I think he did do a worse job than Croom, all things considered.
Wish both of them could have figured it out. But you gotta move on.
