On Twitter you got Matt jones saying their is no better coach then Cal available, which is crazy after what’s happened recently. Then even on here you got random people that I rarely have seen on here trying to get people to buy into Cal hiring different assistants. They don’t wanna pay the buy out and got their puppets on board with trying to persuade people on social media into wanting to keep Cal around. SMH
I've said it repeatedly already. They will spend 1-2 million on a restructuring of assistants to include an offensive/defensive coordinator rather than 33 mil in monthly installments.
He'll convince Reed and Edwards to return and go from there.

There may not be a glaringly ‘better’ option , as that’s been discussed on this board a lot . People are saying Donovan , Few, Stephens….stuff that isn’t happening. It’s gonna be someone most will feel is pretty dull and won’t excite , but that’s part of it , really . It definitely won’t be someone that gets top 3 classes , etc
I'm sick and tired of this line of thinking. You can most definitely find better options than what you are paying $10 million for to get 9-16, St. Peter's, 22-12 with a first weekend flameout followed by another 10 loss season with a 1st Round exit. People stuck on like Kentucky is replacing Calipari from 2009-19 are just living on past glory.

People who think Calipari is the only one who can recruit top classes are out of touch. Besides, I don't give a damn to win recruiting class rankings. It means the usual, nonstop roster turnover while losing 10+ games every year. The transfer portal makes it where teams do not need to heavily rely on building their teams on freshmen and a new coach can expedite the rebuild through the portal. A balance of experience from transfers, returning players and talented freshmen is the recipe plus adequate coaching is the only way Kentucky Basketball is going to get back.

I’m guessing both are true… 😂 Cal’s ego (most importantly won’t let him leave) and dear Matt has to back down from most the junk he takes the “hot take” on. Matt sells stuff that UK fans want to hear and Cal sells the ish we wish he could deliver. Learn something from it, neither are worth listening to yet we all pay attention to ish that it’s not worth two damn cents.

I don’t think it’s a money factor. I think the money would be rather easy to come up with from UK. I wonder if those high up don’t see another candidate at the moment who’s worth $33 million plus their own salary. I bet if Billy Donovan or Jay Wright were available it would’ve already happened. Just speculation.

There are probably a dozen better coaches out there right now than Cal. Maybe more. But that's my opinion and I'm not a Duke Alum with a radio show that occasionally discusses sports.

If Cal did actually do all of that, I'd be okay with 1 more year. Not because I think he's gonna win, but I see zero home-run hires that are attainable.

They’re going to acknowledge a change needs to be made. Acknowledge fans being upset, portal, NIL bs excuses, new territory for everyone blah blah etc.

Claim the new NIL fund is the fix, target older players in the portal, etc cause they think we’re all too dumb to know it’s 100 percent a coaching issue.
If they can announce the return of Reed Sheppard at the same time? They shift a lot of opinions.

No better coach available?!?!? Seriously? There are better high school coaches available. Do you all confuse recruiting (failed strategy) with great coaches?

The UK job will be attractive to nearly every coach, including some in the NBA.

We are currently stuck with a horrible coach and program builder and we better end it before we become IU.

Yeah but there are different standards when it comes to Kentucky Football. I think everyone should boycott Calipari if he returns.

Stoops is one of the highest paid coaches in the country, why should he be allowed to be mediocre?? That’s how you stay in mediocrity. When Stoops first started coaching here he was making like 1-2 million a year so it was a bargain. He’s now making as much as Nick Saban (was) and Kirby Smart. You offer Stoops contract to anyone not named Kirby and Saban and they come here.

No they don’t because the one guy nobody wants (Cal) would be coming back. Nobody gives a damn on who returns if Cal is the coach we are doomed
I'm just speculating on what the spin will look like if he returns.

Key word was "available". Our targets are currently employed and still coaching in the NCAA tourny.

Unless they ALL or maybe all but Rob come back is the only way he could sell not getting fired. He can sell that he has learned that 1ndone is a failed strategy and has players now who play for the name on the front.

We all know thers is no chance of this happening.

Ok I just read the tweet where he said we didn’t have a better option right now. Watch and see though if they start talking about firing assistants and “Cals a changed man” ******** you know what’s up
You didn’t read the whole tweet - second part said why he should get the xiggy

Whether Reed returns or not won't be known until he goes through the draft process and gets evaluation and feedback regarding where he would he drafted. That will be in May. They will have to make a decision on Cal long before they know the decisions of whether crucial players are returning.

Looks like to me Cal is going to have to turn over a lot of basketball day to day operations to mitch. So mitch will get to hire some up and coming offensive and defensive coaches and then hope to pick one to replace cal when he hangs it up. Meanwhile Cal can continue to recruit highly at the high school level. So mitch will think it is a win-win. I personally think it's time to just blow it up and start over but this is what I think from the trickle of info coming out.

Same exact thing here. I think from a risk assessment view it's less risky. The buyout decreases, it gives us more time to see how the coaching landscape looks for a replacement, and it would at least be fun having Reed back. I'd roll the dice on that. Plus, if the impossible happens and we actually in it all having the Sheppard household involved in three of the last four titles would be one of the coolest things in college basketball history.

No necessarily. If he follows the usual process, yes. But Cal could go to him and basically say "this year sucked, let's run it back together and get a few more guys to return and make it so that wasn't your last game here."

What a defeatist crock of ****. How difficult would it it be to find a coach who loses every postseason game? I’d imagine it would be pretty damn easy…
That’s why I think the propaganda has started. I may be wrong but I don’t think I am. Let’s hope I’m wrong

Offer Scott Drew a reasonable deal and let's go.
They're not going to do that for two reasons:

* Mitch is unwilling to sack up and fire Cal, because he thinks it will result in him being shitcanned, too.

* the university is not going to pay Cal's monthly salary and the monthly salary of a new coach.

That's not really saying what you think it's saying and it's not pRoPaGaNdA as you keep posting. I want Cal gone like everyone else but he's been a successful coach, at one time was the perfect fit for UK, and can still bring in talent and get your team a top 3 seed. If you think Matt Jones is going to go on twitter like a poster here and burn bridges while saying Cal...I mean COW is a stupid idiot loser who sucks balls...you're going to be disappointed.

This thread is silly and just getting people worked up before a decision has been made.
