Like I said in the other thread, I can see Barnhart doing this because of his familiarity with Mitchell.
Didn't Mitchell face a mass exodus of players too
He bounced back from that . It was in 2016. It wasn’t any one thing with them, tho ….
No one locally mentions him coming back …just this one tweet from a national writer
This is not confirmed yet but usually where there is smoke there is a fire I was hoping Barnhart would go a different direction

I would be 100% in favor of this re-hire. I've always liked the guy even though I thought he may have gone a little overboard during BBM but the crowd seemed to love it. Maybe it didn't look as cheesy live.
I would like to know what happened, was it ever disclosed publicly or covered up?
It was health...he fell while on vacation and hit his head which resulted in an undiagnosed brain bleed...he had to have emergency brain surgery and he mad the decision to step away while recovering so he could spend more time with his family and see his kids grow up.

Whatever it was , they it say wasn’t a coaching issue , or mistreatment or anything like that. Tho he blamed himself …said he was delegating too much daily responsibilities to staff and wasn’t there for his players enough
Lol what an incredibly boring and lazy hire as expected from lazy Barnhart. Mitchell was not very good his last several years before quitting and no reason to believe he's now suddenly gonna be able to get us over the hump. Take a chance on a young, motivated coach.
Me too. I think Mitchell can get them to an NCAA Tournament team again, but don't think his ceiling is much higher. I like him a lot, but was hoping for one of the young up and comers that we have discussed.
I would think if he felt his health was bad he wouldn’t be interested in the job. I think he must feel he is good to go. If these rumors are true that is.

Wish Barnhart would have at least taken applications to see who was interested. Just a gut feeling that a younger up and comer would have been the best choice.

It almost looks like Larry did something to Matt Mitchell.
He had an assistant coach that was undermining things he was doing and coaching. Behind his back she would tell the girls “ thats not the way we would do it at UConn “. He got wind of it , fired her and some of the girls weren’t happy about it , also Epps was a LOAD to deal with.
I was told this by the father of one of the players that stayed at that time .
He and Sky do a MUCH better job than the other post game. He comes on immediately after games are over. Do both bb and fb.

I always liked MM. Great dude. Solid coach got the program to respectability. Kind of a cult like hero figure amongst the die hard wbb fans. They loved him and his old school southern charm.
Will be interesting to see who lines up. I'd go all in if I were MB. Swing for the fences. Mulkey comes to mind. That lady is a hoot, and great coach. After that I'd look at Texas coach who took Miss St to a couple final fours.
If the home run isn't there, MM would be a good hire. He can do the job. Comeback story is always nice. Not sure of his interest in current college NIL/portal happy landscape though.

I bet trying to coach women is harder than men honestly. The gossip and infighting could get terrible. Men can hate each other and still work together. A lot of women can’t.
Its funny to me ppl care about the next womens basketball coach when no one watches the games. They could lose every game the rest of my life and i wouldnt care.
I’m kinda that way too . I’m like , it’s a shame we don’t have a better Womens basketball program but……I don’t really care .
