Cockfighting must just be a south central/EKY thing because I, too, knew several people who did that kinda thing. And they wouldn’t be what you’d call white trash, financially speaking. Some were prominent members of the community. And I get it….money doesn’t wash away trashy.

I feel like the boomers were the last generation to really be in to it. I don’t know anyone my age who does it. But, I haven’t lived there in 20+ years either.

Different cultures do different things that other cultures find abhorrent.

But in the end, diversity is our strength. Or so I’ve heard.

It’s picking back up with the younger crowd. My buddy with the tank of a rooster is only 25.

Allegedly a lot of his shows are in Wayne County and on into the 606. Not surprising.

@cut_itloosedoubledeuce when I was in largo for Irma that was the craziest winds I’d ever heard. Glad you’re well brother.

A basement in non-central Florida?!?! Never seen one of those!

Florida mom said the water is above the sea wall but not in the pool yet, high tide comes at 2p though 🤦‍♂️. Fingers crossed. If it floods the house I’ll fly down this week and help her.

-Gym friend/rental mgmt coming today at noon so just cleaning up so she can tell me what to leave and what to take.

-Court granted me guardianship until at least the 11th when the final decision is made. Hopefully they give it to my aunt and then she can place him so I can get down to hurricane territory finally.

-Stoked for the game this weekend, thanks bradyjames, my buddy and his boys confirmed. It’ll be the boys second game both of which I’ve been with them. Pretty cool to see their fandom grow.

Their dad is one of my best friends for 30+ years and always been a Louisville fan. After 23 years in Lexington and his boys being big UK fans he’s given up and converted to a UK fan thank god finally. If you can’t beat ‘em, join em and whatnot.

@ThroughBlue LWC called me yesterday and basically asked if I’d start a Strength & Conditioning Program along with nutrition yesterday evening. Guaranteed the FBall coaches pushed for this. They would’ve never lost me if they’d done that from the get go. I wasn’t trying to deal with golfers and volleyball players.

Bummer though as there’s no way I’m moving back there. Would be an awesome experience but Florida calls. They wouldn’t give me a number either, 80-100K would still be a no and they don’t even have that money.

We’re still in discussions about me being a zoom consult for FBall players only though.

Marion County/Lebanon is an underrated "rough" county. People always talk about Harlan & Clay County, but I don't like to mess around in Lebanon.

Why isn't pineapple juice more prevalent? It's delicious. Is it just really unhealthy or something? Are pineapples too scarce to juice? Why did we all settle on apple/orange? That stuff is fine, but pineapple juice is a real treat & idk why I can't get it at McDonalds.

Does training a dog actually work? My mom got a white retriever a few years ago. Really pretty dog & makes her happy, so its all good. But that thing jumps all over me & everyone else. Constantly noses at my crotch. Tries to stand on my legs. I guess I just am always impressed when someone can train a dog to kill another one. Maybe its just in its DNA & dogs really shouldn't ever be domesticated. Were yorkies once wild animals? That would be something to see.

They usually field a pretty good team for their level don’t they? I know they’re always competitive in basketball. We used to go watch several of their games when I was in high school. Just 25mi north from the banks of the Cumberland river.

If you’re ever back in the area let me know we will grab a beer at black stallion or something. I don’t really know the places to sit down and enjoy a bev in Columbia

My grandmother was a Mudd from Marion County. I think it saved me a mob-style beating after the WKU game in Nashville years ago.

I was walking home solo from Printer's Alley and a group of angry looking dudes were walking towards me. Not sure what started it, but a conversation ensued that became unnecessarily tense. I asked where they were from, and when they told me Marion County I was quick to offer my connection. Sure enough, they knew a bunch of Mudds and the normal friendly Kentuckian banter ensued.

Before parting ways into the night, we all agreed to remain Wildcats forever.

Any juice is basically unhealthy. It’s like eating ten or ages in one sitting when you have a glass of it. And they add sugar so juices are basically a dessert. When you eat them the sugar is attached to fiber so it takes longer to break down and you don’t get a sugar rush like with drinking it.

Pineapple juice is fire though, mango remains numero uno though.

They ALWAYS have a good FBall team @ThroughBlue and they will continue to it seems. They and a couple other schools are the go to when you can’t make grades basically.

Yep. Lebanon was a go to in the Summer for Staglianos and The Golden Horseshoe during Christmas. Great memories. Also when I was 16 an AC/DC cover ban performed at Club 68 but I think it closed right after that. I was told by my parents to never go to Loretto and Rayrick and I obeyed those orders. Those places were the prime locales for the Cornbread Mafian.

Yeah losing that podcast was not cool. I’d bet someone with some pull got threatened.

The book is otw to my house finally.

I love Kentuckians that look down on actual Kentuckians that live the life we’re known for. Guess what gang? They already think all this about us anyway no matter where you live, this state isn’t changing to NYC sorry.

As a young stupid sitting in homeroom in Clay co I overheard other kids talk about cockfighting. They mentioned people flying in from everywhere. One night they had a guy from Mexico fly in to challenge a guy from the western US for $100,000. The place has been shut down multiple times by police but it keeps coming back.

Fighting chickens is bad enuogh, but I realized they were a different breed of people when they discussed things they did during the fights.(disgusting things mentioned in the spoiler)
If the chicken needed agitated to fight they would use their mouths to blow air up their butts to get them agitated. Even worse, if they had breathing problems they would again use their mouths to suck the blood and mucus out of their beaks.

Their conversation was interupted by the teacher yelling "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" and dragging a kid behind them into the halway. Apparently its against the rules to snort oxy in school. Thanks to whoever thought seperating students for 15 minutes every day based only by the alphabetical order of last name was a good idea.

Back to lurking.

Freaking Staglionos, man! First "nightclub" I'd ever been to. I remember thinking, if it's this easy to go out and drink underage, undergrad life is going to be fun. It was shut down very soon thereafter by the ABC. Reopened under a different name, but we *understood.

Who cares, they’re effing chickens lol. I’ve never been to one but it doesn’t change my life.

Everyone is okay eating chickens that are force fed food and stuffed in a tiny warehouse but if you fight them I’ll be damned!

My smoke show dentist sent me a text saying that she’s gonna be out for our appointment this Friday but will be backfilled by some dude dentist. WTF… I wanted to respond with, “do you even understand why I go there twice a year?”, but I guess that will just make it weird. Can’t have nothin’.

If you were under 21, they just put an X on your hand with a marker. Go straight to the bathroom and wash it off, profit.

They played Atomic Dog approximately 4 times a night. Had a buffet (I personally remember the potato wedged). Had a back entrance you could escape through if the police came rolling in. There was a separate room for the older "locals"/ non-college kids.

I was too naive at the time to realize just how dangerous that place probably was.

Both of my parents are from Loretto, my mom has ten brothers and sisters, I have 44 1st cousins on that side. There might be 5 of us out of the 44 that don't still live in Loretto, raywick or Lebanon. I had at least ten cousins or uncles that were in the cornbread mafia. Most were smart, made their money and got out.
I remember when I was 17 years old and my cousins took me to the cozy corner, a bar in Loretto. Packed to the gills, and some dude rides his horse through the middle of the bar, about an hour later guy drives his Harley in and does a burnout. You couldn't see it was so damn thick with smoke.
17 year old me who was from Prospect and went to stx learned a lot from that area. And the girls were sure different than what we had back home. Shew wee.

That part of KY, southern Nelson, Marion, part of Washington County has always had that element, kind of Catholic outlaw (which the Cornbread Mafia book goes into that history). My Papaw (Mom's dad) was a native and grew up in the New Haven/New Hope area, WWII vet and came back to work in a distillery when he met my future grandmother at a dance in E'town. They settled in E'town when they got married.
My grandmother said it took her parents a year or so to accept him because one, he was Catholic and two, that area had a bad, bad reputation, you would have thought he was Italian or something.

Cozy Corner was once of places we would go to get beer if we couldn't buy anywhere else in Nelson County. Went up there one time and the road was blocked because somebody threw a few bales of hay in the road and caught them on fire.

Bicketts was the place in Raywick but I never set foot in that place.
