We know what we'll have in Wheeler, Fredrick, Reeves, Oscar, and Wallace.

The season will likely come down to what we get out of Livingston and Toppin.
Its pretty clear what Toppin is going to give UK as well. Livingston looked good bangin in that corner 3 at the open scrimmage and is bulit like Charles Hurt.

If this team isnt #1 come late October they will be underrated IMHO and I’ll be shocked.

Wallace is rated by every recruiting expert and NBA scout as on par with guys like DeAaron Fox or Brandon Knight or Jamal Murray in terms of rank out of high school and projected draft position. But there seems to be a little bit of a lack of buzz about him among Kentucky fans. I think he’ll change that once the season starts.

I guess people just feel a little skeptical after some recent program disappointments. But everything I've seen suggests Cason is the real deal, and while his game isn't exactly like those guys I mentioned, his impact should be.

They say he is a dawg on defense who wants to rip guy’s hearts out. That type of mentality is right up Calipari’s alley.

Can tell you the buzz I got from friend who saw practice regarding Wallace. They are a damn good team no matter what but sometime this year the keys will have to be given to Cason Wallace as the PG and Wheeler to take a lesser role for them to reach their top level. We'll see how things turn out but Wallace jumped out in so many ways and just provides things Wheeler doesn't. Anxious to see how it plays out this year.

Yeah, I'll admit, I know very little about him and that’s fine. After Whitney and BJB, I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed.
Hopefully he's a stud from day 1. I like the position he's in. He can just contribute, he doesn't have to carry the load.
Good players thrive in that scenario.

Forget the recruiting and ranking hype....the only real yardstick for measuring success is championships. Unfortunately, our coach uses other metrics to determine success and some of the fan base are buying into the hype.

me too. Wallace needs the ball in his hands. Some people here love wheeler but I don’t think we hang #9 with him as our starting pg

I see much more bitter beer faced Wheeler hate than I do Wheeler love. What you call Wheeler-love is mostly people with a shred of class not hating on him like the idiot parent at the little league game yelling from the bleachers.

I don't think one poster here would cry if Wallace forced him to sit the bench.

Were you the one who mentioned a Marcus Smart comp for Wallace?

I think at the end of the day the better player should get to start. If it’s the senior whose been the SEC assist leader twice in a row whose shot has been improving, so be it.

And if it’s the top ranked freshman who has yet to prove himself against division 1 competition, so be it.

I would not consider myself a lover of Wheeler. As good as he is he really took us out of that last game. Hopefully he’s better this season. Because we need him to be.

if that is your only real measuring stick then you have had a lot of very disappointing seasons in your lifetime

I have a very bad feeling that we may not see CJ for a while, or very much at all. I just have that hunch. I'm not a doctor or Johnny Raincloud. But something tells me CJ isn't nearly where we all wanted him to be at this point.

Can you imagine if Ty Ty had come back for a second year to share the backcourt with Wallace?
Would have been a killer backcourt. In hindsight he should have came back but I think he kind of had an unlucky and unpredictable fall to go as low as he did.

You know, just thinking about it, is he our biggest guard we’ve had? Who was bigger? Dude is built like a brick *********. Can’t think of a guard, especially freshman, bigger than him.
Can't think of anyone either. Azubuike was ripped, but he was more of a 2/3. Wallace is a 1/2, so he's probably got the nod for the strongest guard we've had in a while.

My thoughts exactly! Our best lineup by end of year will be Wallace, Reeves, Frederick, Toppin, and Oscar. But will Cal stay loyal to Wheeler is the question.

Have you ever seen a baby praying mantis? They're about the size of a knuckle. And they just lie there nodding their heads. A mantis can move its head. That's what a bunch of sports writers squeezing out copy at this point remind me of.

He is absolutely not on par in Murray out of HS. Rankings or any other way. Murray was like top 3 after he reclassed and they redid the rankings. I guess we could be splitting hairs here but he’s no where near Murray on offense but Murray couldn’t touch him on defense.

FYI- Murray was ranked #10 in the 247 composite rankings after he reclassed in 2015. Wallace is ranked #8 in the 247 composite rankings for his class.

I like that lineup.
If Fredrick can stay healthy, that’s the starting 5 I want, too. His shooting & heady play takes this team to another level, IMO. He has to be respected as soon as he crosses the half-court line & will provide a ton of spacing by himself. I think he needs all the floor time he can handle & that will be tough to find with Wheeler at PG, bc Wallace needs big minutes, as well. I just don’t know how realistic it is to count on a healthy season from Fredrick. That is this year’s X-factor, IMO.

I also agree with your other post & think Wheeler would be great as a spark plug off the bench. He has nice assist numbers, but, is a liability in a few areas & they outweigh the good things he does, IMO. The most obvious flaw is his poor perimeter shooting, but, he’s also a mismatch defensively, in most cases. He can’t go right & he plays out of control far too often, driving aimlessly into the paint & either throwing up a bad shot or turning the ball over.

Wallace is a better option in almost every way. And, by giving CW PG duties you can get Fredrick AND Reeves on the court, together. Defenses will let Wheeler shoot all day & sag off him, cheating into the post, mucking it up & making everything harder on Oscar, Toppin & our wings taking the ball to the basket. It’s just tough to win in today’s game without solid perimeter shooting & if we play Wheeler, Toppin & Oscar together for long stretches we’re gonna be hurting for spacing.
