For DUI in Cotton District according to Bonner. Nothing to say except he's being really stupid.

Never would've happened in to a legendary player in Oxford. I'm not excusing his 17 up but damn SPD give the dude a ride home.

Really?... Oxford PD does and will arrest anyone for so much as littering.

Dak has gotten as much slack in Starkville as anyone. Dude needs to chill out on the bar scene. Should have stayed in Florida.

Wasn't Cleveland interested in dak? You can cross them off the list after just dealing with manziel

Yeah, like the time they arrested Marshall Henderson while he was holding coke.
There were a few guys at MSU when I was there who got in trouble with the police and released without any charge. None of them were as high profile as Dak, Boobie, or Henderson though.

Just so we're clear, if Dak was drinking and driving he deserves a DUI. Henderson should have gotten in trouble. SPD doesn't owe Dak any special treatment.

Bonner was tweeting photos of Dak being at a kids camp this morning at Starkville High School and staying afterwards to sign autographs. So he got arrested this morning and then went to the kids camp? I assume this is late Friday Night and by early he means 2 am and not 6 am.

I'd be surprised

if he spent more than 30 mins in a cell...

ETA: hell, I'd be surprised if he spent any time in a cell

The dumbest part about him getting a DUI is he doesn't realize basically anyone in the county would crawl out of bed at 1am to give him a ride home if he needed it. I'd guarantee that anyone out Saturday night in Starkville would have been willing to drive him. Hell, he could have called the Starkville PD and they may have given him a ride.

Whatever. Not that big of a deal, honestly.

Im not so sure. This is a guy who was called the top character guy in the draft. And was depending on that to push him up a few spots. Will it drop him a round? No, but several of those teams that were looking will probably lose interest.

In 1982 a few of us went on a road trip from Starkville to Moss Point. I drove and we left with a full cooler. Remember In the late 70s, early eighties the entire campus had to drive 7 miles to Len-Lews or the Triangle Club or the Crossroads to wet our whistles. And on Thursdays we drove to Columbus. I don't remember any major accidents in all those years. I guess we got a lot of practice driving with a buzz on. There was one guy I knew who did drive his Corvette into the Tombigbee swamp coming back from The Club. He supposedly jumped the east bound lanes but all survived. But I digress.

I get pulled over in Pascagoula and go through the roadside exam. I thought I did fine but they decide to take me to the station to test me on the breathalyzer. The arresting officer puts me in another cop car and we all go to the station. On the way this other officer says to me "Coach Polk isn't going to like this, huh?" I say "Yeah I guess not". I never said who I was or that I played baseball at MSU but I guess I was known by then. We then talk about baseball the rest of the way. I get to the station and I blow a 1.2 (1.0 was drunk then). So I am sitting there assuming I am going to be arrested and processed. In a few minutes the original officer comes up to me and shows me the ticket he has written out with DUI checked. He does not look too happy but he says "Look what I am going to do" he scratches out the DUI and then rips up the ticket. He says "I better not see you driving the rest of the time your are in my town". I said yes sir and thanked him.

I learned my lesson and was much more aware of drinking and driving. I didn't have my life ruined and it cost me (or my parents) a bunch of money. So if it is the first time for Dak, I sure wished they would have been more magnanimous and just made sure he didn't drive. If he had been caught before and let off, then okay. Not everyone is Johnny Manziel.

I agree that a DUI isn't a big deal. Doesn't say anything about his character that he GOT the DUI, just draws attention to the fact that after a successful pro day he went and got druuuuuunk.

Big Ben does the same thing every off season.

So...damn...Stupid. I really thought he learned his lesson last Spring Break in Florida---stay outta situations that could get you in trouble.

Rocka Flocka concert in Panama City with full on alcohol drinking and bud smoking---yep, that's a scene that could lead to some trouble. Getting drunk, getting behind the wheel, and driving through 1 of the top 3 drunk areas (Cotton District, Frat row & Highlands / Cowbells, etc) in Starkville---yep, that's a scene that could lead to some trouble too.

If he'd talked to Freeze nightly these last few years

maybe he would've been in Haiti instead.

I think he passed Henderson, Wallace and Nkemdiche the Elder as All Time Best Spring Breaker.

Damn, Dak made a stupid mistake. Especially before the draft. But the most important thing is that he didn't hurt himself or another person. This mistake is not the end of the world and I believe Dak will learn from it.

Nice try, but no. (Unless it is revealed that he busted through a window trying to escape the police. If he did, then you have a case.)

eta: Don't think a DUI and a spring break fracas are the equivalent of being a convicted counterfeiter and confirmed cokehead either, but that's just me.

.....and this is the way it should have gone down with Dak UNLESS they have had to let him off on other occasions (which I doubt). Probably a road block and too many people were around to let it slide.

You could get breaks back the the 80's/90's. No way now with dash cams, body cams, and everyone with a cam recording video and audio.

You are likely to get pulled over when driving late at night in Starkville. I don't know when he was pulled over, but a lawyer in Starkville shared some great words of wisdom: "If you are driving in town after midnight with your lights off, you will get pulled over. If you are driving in town after midnight with your lights on, you will get pulled over."

I don't think I'd be going out on a limb if I suggested that somebody might have said or done something to force somebody else's hand. The way Bruce handled his situation and the way somebody else may or may not have handled theirs could vary resulting in different responses.

Whatever. Not that big of a deal, honestly.

Depends on who you talk to. In Miss, it's not a big deal because people just don't care about the consequences. But in the sports professional business (and most of the rest of the U.S.), it is a big deal. If you want to play sports professionally, you can't have a disagreement with your partner and you can't get behind the wheel intoxicated.

Dak was climbing up the draft boards based on character - not on ability. He lost that this weekend and cost himself big money. I hope he overcomes it, but he knew the game and struck-out.

Hopefully he can turn a negative into a positive, that's what leaders do. I

Don't think it will hurt him in the draft too much. People make mistakes everyday, it's how you
react to these mistakes that define you.
