Cool story from Monday, if I may:

Around 10am I get transferred phone call at my office:

"Good morning, you don't know me but my name is Brack Marquette, and I was very saddened to hear about your Grandmother's passing...do you have time to speak with me for a bit about her, I have a few stories I'd like to share if I'm not interrupting"

Sure

Proceeds to tell she was his political mentor, and his first 'boss' at the Capitol when she was serving on Martha Layne's Cabinet (Transportation Secretary)..and also her "right hand woman", often filling in for her speaking engagements. That she was instrumental in several of his early positions, and moving up the ladder, etc.

Shared several of his favorite funny stories about her, all which resonated completely, and were legit hilarious, and really just went on a 30 minute tribute.

Said he remembered me from a few visits when I was a little kid, when she would bring me to Frankfort, and felt the need to reach out.

Just Really blew me away, this complete stranger tracking me down, just to offer condolences and talk to me about her. He followed up with a few texted pictures, etc.

Was a great way to start a Monday, and has really stayed with me all week long. This strange world is still pretty cool sometimes.

Any of you Lexington people know that fella? Google tells me he's involved or ran for council & involved in politics in some way still...so I'm sure some of you probably hate him. Previous director of Columbia Gas.

But it was legit one of the coolest things that's ever happened to me.

The newest bronco has the largest spectrum of “what’s that piece of ****” to “that looks badass” of any vehicle I’ve ever seen. Have no clue why ford made a low-end terrible version, totally cheapened the name imo.

The Bronco Sport I believe it’s called. Was a volume mover they were able to get out in 2021, when revenue was still ****. It was built on the escape platform, so easy to build quickly and cheaply in mass quantity. It’s a car, basically, not the grade A truck that Bernie’s rig is.

Yeah, some clown in my hood got that early on and I was secretly talking **** about Bernie behind his back because boy oh boy did I think he was gonna be dissapointed. But then the other day at the Y I saw the real one. I was standing there just ‘mirin it when some 16-year old hit unlock button to let me know it was his. Little f-wad.

The Volvo V90 Cross Country wagon is on my radar. Love that thing. Considering ordering and delivering in Sweden… they pay for entire trip and save on fees. Not a fan that they’ve been bought by Chinese, but who hasn’t (not Rudd)?

Saab used to be the default architect’s car. 900 spg… shewee😪

Then:

...and now:

-- I used to really love Kentucky basketball. Sure, most of that is just nostalgia speaking out to my tired *** for whatever reason tonight, but the sport Cawood knew is no more and it ain't ever coming back. I don't think I'll ever care about Kentucky basketball the way I used to. And hey, that's okay, that's life. I genuinely hope some of you guys really still feel the magic every now and then because when it hits right those special sports moments are joyous and last a lifetime.

-- Boy I sure do miss the days when we had guys who came here for the name on the front of their jerseys and not for the lifeless, joyless parade of forced servitude where these kids are counting down the days with glee of when they can finally break free from the nightmarish hellscape that is playing basketball for the University of Kentucky. I know that's not a problem unique here and that take probably comes off as Billy Joe Wildcat-ish, but f if it ain't true. At least coach these little ***** up to fake it at least. That Wallace quote is so GD disrespectful, but he's just a kid and lord knows I've said a bunch of dumb **** in my day.

-- Maybe it was that BBdK post earlier that inspired me, but watching some old UK clips tonight reminded me of my amazing grandpa. Most of my childhood memories are at his house and in a lot of ways I practically grew up there. He was such a monumental figure for me. Never smoke, never drank, always patient and loved to teach, and he always had a genuine smile. He was never a fan of the local churches but he'd fall to sleep every night reading the Bible. He'd drive well over an hour every workday to work a blue-collar refinery job, drive back after a full day of physical labor, and then spend most of his evenings as the handyman for literally his whole neighborhood. Carpentry, electrical work, plumbing... he'd do it all with no hesitation if it meant helping someone out. And he loved Kentucky basketball. My parents were never die-hards about it but he was devout and is the reason I got sucked in. I just have these random flashes and memories of sitting with him with the TV volume off and the radio on intently watching our boys. I don't guess we minded how it didn't sync up but he hated the national analysts and would rather watch a game in total silence if he had to. I hope there are still kids now that are having those same moments because that's the good stuff you'll always carry with you.

-v90 cc wagon is dope and made in sweden, kook. Roomier than s class/7 series. Can handle any weather. Comparatively cheap. Performance is meh as it's volvo. Sadly Mrs Rudd "needed" a 7 seater...so we got a Toyota with captains chairs...still a great car.

-santa fe was awesome. Run down when I get a little rest*.

*carrabbas (?) Harstfied during a layover...had a GERD incident**. Iganently, I soldiered on and flew home...hit the UK ER at 7 this morning ...as I still couldn't swallow food/water/saliva. Emergency endoscopy...to remove blockage, JIC/"while we're in here" biopsy forthcoming. Just got home. All is well so far.

** scared dafuq outta Mrs rudd...I know she loves me now/or my earning potential outweighs my life insurance policies. Whatevs.

^don't ignore persistent heartburn...it makes your esophagus cranky and small. Also I (everyone)should chew food better...especially meat. /psa.

If Poythress was more consistent he could’ve had monster numbers with Ulis. They had a lot of pick-n-roll action in a lot of games where Poythress went off, but then he would disappear for 3 games. He had a monster game against UL in 2016.
He was a great defender tho. In the 14 s16 against the birds, Luke Hancock was going off. Cal switched poythress on him and he never scored again
