Cal could justifiably be fired solely for the embarrassing mishandling of the Sharpe situation. He wasted him on the bench. The uncertainty of the situation effed up recruiting. He put the selfishness of one player and his handlers above the team. And he allowed the whole thing to become a distraction.
If you want to pull this "Player's First" ********, go do it at a school that isn't the most passionate in college basketball. UK is a "Team First" program where the only shared goal should always be destroying every opponent on the schedule.

Think I will adopt Bellarmine as a local favorite team next year, maybe even go to some games. I knew after that ****** home game against Vandy that Cal didn't have what it would take to make a run with this team.

UK is a brand to get to the league. The reputation Duke has for pros is the inverse here. Yeah, our guys were decent but their coach held them back. Imagine what Herro would look like with coaching from spoelstra or keldon from pop.

- Three things I'm angriest about: one, Shaedon Sharpe being here at all. Two, Cal saying he didn't have any answers last night. Chris Mack was essentially run out of town mid-season for saying something along those same lines. And three, and this is me being pre-emptively angry, but I'm already angry at whatever crock Cal's gonna roll out during his stupid Big Blue Madness speech in October. He'd be wise to just keep his mouth shut. Literally. From his final press obligation this season to SEC Media Days. Don't say ANYTHING unless it's released in a statement. Congratulate your NBA guys. Welcome your newbies. But I don't want to hear anything come out of the mouth of a guy who says he had no answers in the final minutes of a postseason game when that's EXACTLY what you're paid $9 mil/per to do.
- I think the only way Wagner comes here is if he reclassifies and comes early, because the longer KP is able to demonstrate his chops at UL, the easier it becomes to justify going there and playing for your legendary grandfather's program. And I haven't seen any reclassification talk surrounding him, so that's probably not happening.
- There are two huge obstacles to a change right now....one, who would hire Cal? There aren't any college jobs he'd take, and there's no chance an NBA team would take him after his antiquated offense has been exposed this badly. And the other obstacle is this...every single potential replacement has warts. Like I said, SAE was right about the lack of top-shelf options. I have a "list", but honestly, it's not all that impressive. So many good coaches are in situations now that they might have left 5-8 years ago, but now they're locked in(Wright, etc.)
- I do think that Kentucky is one of the few jobs that Scott Drew would leave for (IU and KU being the others). Maybe he looks around and sees 10,000 in attendance for a big conference game and wonders if he's maxed out at a place like Baylor. I know he's too aw-shucks for a lot of people, but the guy has won big at a place where a coach has no business winning big. And he's done it while adapting not only his recruiting style but his playing style as well. What he's doing this year with essentially a brand-new team, and battling the injuries his bunch has faced, is remarkable.
- Beyond him? Yeah, I don't know. We wouldn't even be talking about Chris Holtmann if he was from Texas instead of Nicholasville. Oats' team has been pretty unimpressive this year overall. Sean Miller has a rep for being unable to win the big one. NBA guys don't want to recruit. Love my guy Buzz, but he hasn't won enough. The best "newer" coaches (McMahon, Jans, etc.) haven't yet established that they can run a high-major program. That leaves you with a whole bunch of pretty good, but not great options (Underwood, Enfield, Musselman, etc.)
- I realize that this is a highly-unpopular opinion, especially in GYERO, but I'm still gonna watch the tournament. (Ir)regardless of how Kentucky does, it's always my favorite event of the year. Oh, and I've softened on Goodman over the past couple of years, and I think he and Dauster do good work with that "Field of 68" stuff, but he needs to quit the whole "Hey Kentucky fans who want Cal fired...be careful what you wish for" schtick.

Agree with KL- honestly, the powers that be might want to strongly considering not having Madness next year. Spin it as “back to work, real Rocky III type rebuild” or some crap. It’ll be BS but man Madness could be awkward at best. The schtick done worn thin.

I was 8 rows up behind UK’s bench last night. Cal lighting up Chin and screaming at him non stop during a moment in the 1st half had a ripple effect on the team. The master of panic losing his mind beyond reason at his assistant tightened up up the entire bench.

Calipari is the college coach who puts players in the NBA, but he isn't an NBA coach. In fact, his players would *hate* him at that level, imho. Look at the most successful guys in the league. Even the best recent coaches like Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich and Doc Rivers and Erik Spoelstra are low key dudes who at best tolerate the media.
Having the freaking head coach be the biggest celebrity on the team?? Lol, gtfo. That stunt is not gonna work in the NBA.
Seems to me like you have to do two things to win in the NBA:
- be an easy going guy who is able to get along with a bunch of superstars
- coach well enough to constantly exploit mismatches
(note: Cal does NOT have those two traits)

The only hope I'm holding out is that there's some poorly-run NBA franchise who needs to inject some juice into their lifeless, long-suffering fanbase, and sees Cal as a quick fix that might get some season ticket sales up and hope that you luck your way into some draft magic.
The only ones I could see doing it are Sacramento, and MAYBE Detroit/Orlando/New Orleans/Charlotte. But two of those teams have first-year coaches they won't fire just to get Cal. So, I guess what I'm saying is, help me Sacramento...you're my only hope.

Cal is not walking away from a guaranteed $50mm to go coach the Kings. UK is also not going to fire him and pay him $50mm buyout.

They’re players knew they exactly where our players were going to be and beat them to their spots. Kentucky has been running the same tired crap since 2009 and is so easy to scoot.
