I teach college biology and have colleagues who regularly argue that we should have no tests and no deadlines. This will soon be the norm.

Many of these students are headed for medical careers. Good luck to all future patients.
It’s ridiculous. People aren’t gonna be able to do crap. Shortage of all kinds of people who need to actually know things.

This is just another example of where this country is heading; "everyone gets a trophy" mentality.
In the attempt to make everyone "equal" they must take away the steps to success and create a world where no one has to work for success.
America was built on hard work by those who strived for it. Now all you have to do is show up.
That is of course showing up is still required.

Why even require college athletes to go to class. 75% are there for the sole purpose of playing ball. Make them Independent Contractors free to jump from one school to another.

College athletics has been a fraud and a joke for many, many decades. It is time to pull back the covers and allow the light to shine on what it really is. A money making endeavor for the Universities that has nothing to do with academics.

Let them by pass college academics and pay them to represent the university, not as a student but as a paid athlete. Then no rules that apply to other students will apply to them. Why not?

I really don’t have a problem with this. Major College athletics is about money, not grades.
Major college athletics is about major colleges. As Bill Gates proved, people don't have to attend college to make money. But it is destructive to the society to weaken and remove the traditional standards that made America successful in the first place.

There is nothing wrong, and never was anything wrong, with receiving a free university education, food, and housing in return for playing amateur baseball, football, or basketball for 4 years. It is ridiculous how much this basic social compact is becoming corrupted for immediate gratification and greed.

The corruption of our system of education is in progress. The US used to have the best system of education in the world. That won't be the case much longer. Our primary schools have already been dumbed down by the teachers unions. The universities are being slowly destroyed by people who don't grasp the difference between money and higher education, not to mention malevolent foreign actors corrupting our campuses. It is an unfolding tragedy, and hopefully people are waking up to this.

What does all this have to do with college athletics? Young people are being taught to envy other people's money, hate traditional values, and follow false idols. College athletics, like many other traditional activities in the culture, are being sucked into the greater struggle between instant gratification and methodical construction of solid life and family habits. This is just another stumble down the rabbit hole. But a lot of people don't see it coming because it is a slippery slope.
